2016. Octavia 1.8 tsi or 1.4 tsi
Just bought a 1.4TSI DSG Octavia estate SEL and couldn’t be happier. Really moves the car well, acceleration is very impressive. Dropping in to sports mode (when the oil temperature is up) and it has really got a kick for a small engine.

Lane assist frequent faults
Had a 1.0TSI DSG SE loaner today whilst my Octavia 1.4TSI is in. Lane assist is I think dangerous and unnecessary. On a couple of occasions on the motorway, lorries have a habit of drifting as they did today, obviously you steer away from the drifting lorry on your left, but lane assist kicked in forcing me towards the lorry that had drifted across the left white line. Indicating is the only way to stop it, but who indicates to avoid a potential incident.

2021 Skoda Kamiq Review
Had a 21 Plate kamiq 1.0 TSI SE DSG today with 244 miles on the clock and as a loaner for my 1.4 SEL Octavia. Have to say I was impressed with the engine, so much so I thought it was a least a 1.2 but no where as quick as my 1.4 TSI. The spec is very good with the 8” infotainment unit and digital dash which I liked a lot. Not too sure about the gesture navigation of the screens. Felt as if it lacked response. Took some getting used to the lane departure system and felt it over corrected my steering and a couple of times felt it was pushing me towards danger rather than avoiding it especially when lorries drift from the left lane and you try to move out to avoid them and the Steering drags you back towards the lorry, but liked the speed warnings in dash. However the start/stop was horrendous. I drove the car 18 miles to work and all was good, but on returning home after 6 hours or so, after starting the car and pulling up at a junction 50 yards from my office, start/stop kicked in on a cold engine, as I edged toward the junction the engine started and stopped twice. The restart was as rough as hell, a lot of vibration and sounded rough. I managed to pull away, but it was hesitant and felt as if it was going to stall. Having driven about 300 yards and stopping at traffic lights, the engine didn’t stop as the engine wasn’t to temperature exactly as I would have expected. After that it seemed to settle down. But I still couldn’t get over how rough and how much vibration came from the start/stop each time. I’m guessing due to 3 cylinders, but enough to put me off wanting one. Start/stop on my Octavia is barely noticeable. The car is great to drive and couldn’t see much in the economy figures to warranty the 1.0 over the 1.4. Also the co2 is 137 on the 1.0 and 117 on my 1.4 so what is the advantage of the smaller engine.

Do all bi-xenon's dance?
I have a 67Plate SEL with LED headlights. Mine dance up and down only on startup and the lights are on Auto. Have never noticed any left and right movement.

Skoda Octavia 3 Owners register
I have the 1.4TSI SEL DSG Estate in the same colour. Love the Racing Blue.

Trying to connect MySKODA, but every time I try, Android Auto just starts... I'm probably an idiot!
SmartLink+ is supposed to work via USB. Mine worked on iPhone before the app was replaced with the new MySkoda App and this was via USB. I now have an error on my Infotainment unit that the dealer is going to look into after discussions with Skoda UK. CarPlay works fine, but the MySkoda App refuses to load and says my Car does not support SmartLink+ when it did prior to the app change. 67 Plate Octavia SEL. This link refers to Smartlink+ via USB. https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/models/connect-yourself-with-the-karoq/attachment/connectivity2/

FL Led headlight condensation
As far as I'm aware the LED headlights are not sealed and that moisture will appear and disappear as the temperature changes. Its a common issue with VAG cars and apparently also occurred on the Xenon headlamps, but the heat from those would dry them out pretty quickly.

E10 fuels
So what are you using now. Have you gone back to E5 super which presumably is more expensive.
-
E10 fuels
@e-RoottootIf you can find a publication that says it’s going to be cheaper, then please share it. I don’t believe for one minute it will be cheaper here. Any excuse is used to raise prices.
-
E10 fuels
According recent publications it could cost more in the UK, whereas most countries using it already its cheaper. Sounds about right for the UK.
-
E10 fuels
My understanding is that E10 will affect vehicle economy significantly and be more expensive to buy.
-
E10 fuels
So this September 2021 the UK will only have E10 or Super E10 fuels available containing 10% bioethanol instead of the current 5%. Anyone any thoughts on this move.

Puncture Warning Glitch...
Had the same system on my Honda Civic. Yes it’s a basic system, but has saved me 3 times driving with a slow puncture, each time I had picked up a screw or nail from my works car park. It’s the same system on the Octavia. The important bit is to reset the system every time you put air in the tyres. This ensures the system is kept up to date with tyre pressures. It’s not a glitch but needs keeping an eye on.

Advice on engine type
Motability cars are well worth a look. Full service history and generally well looked after. Mine is exactly that on SEL Spec 1.4TSI DSG and loving it.

Advice on engine type
Mileage is higher that I would like on that reg but your annual mileage is low, so would even out over time. The price is very attractive also. I would take it for a spin and see what you think of the car generally. They are very roomy and the DSG box a dream, but check the gear change is smooth. Have a play with the driver modes as well, eco, normal and sport. The engine will surprise you.

Front seats interchangeable?
An alternative is a wedge cushion. These fill in the dip towards the back of the seat. They also come is a variety of sizes and materials but might help level out the seat cushion to the bolsters. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07SQ1GYH9/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_CT1X4WDEKQ5PQ50KA4SV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075DRS4C9/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_2TZ8F7E82F1HC5NZMBSV

Front seats interchangeable?
Not knowing about your wife’s condition, but have you considered a rotating seat cushion, usually used to assist entry and exit from car seats, would also help raise the cushion above the bolsters. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LLHNP8U/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_SFA9ZBMK9APBXRGDMPNP

Advice on engine type
I have just gone back to petrol after 20 years of diesel cars. Opted for the 1.4TSI DSG estate for the same same reason, camping gear. The 1.4TSI is a terrific engine. Economy obviously not on a par with diesel, but mid 40’s is easily achievable and 50+ driving carefully. I have gone from driving 40k a year to around 15k a year now excluding lockdown. Diesel is certainly not the car for you for the short journeys you make, you will regret it.

Front seats interchangeable?
Easier to change the wife. My SEL has a height adjustable passenger seat, surprised the VRS doesn’t.

Electric boot struts - maintenance, replacement?
It will be the sealed motors assembly as per the video. I doubt you can lubricate anything that would make a difference.
-
Electric boot struts - maintenance, replacement?
Probably can be swapped easily for Gas Struts. Think about €60 each side. Never done it, so you will have to check the pivot mounts are compatible. If you fancy trying to repair them have a look here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbv1_TPCgtw

Skoda Octavia MK 3 1.0tsi vs 1.6tdi
I would go for the 1.4TSI. The distance and terrain will mean a lot of gear changes and higher revs. I have the DSG on a 67 plate and couldn’t be happier. It’s damn quick off the mark too.

Estate boot struts - are yours weak?
My Octy 67 plate estate self raises from halfway when opening and self shuts from halfway when closing. Seems about right given the weight of the rear door.
