  1. Hi and a warm welcome to Briskoda! Glad you're enjoying the Octavia, and I must admit that I like the sound of a Triumph 1500.
  2. Agreed. Especially when you consider that it's an Elegance with a TDI engine. It probably has a good few years in it yet.
  3. Pretty much. I still see a lot of Starlets and Avensis-es. Ours was a 2010 Auris. Many, many things. - Can't complain too much about our Dacias (14 Sandero 0.9 TCE, 19 Duster (pre-reg) 1.0 TCE), only had them just over a year however. Anyway, we really must remain on topic.
  4. How are your coil-packs? When were the sparkplugs done? Your issue could be coming from there.
  5. I never was either, and I'm not quite sure where I stand now. I fell out of interest with Japanese cars after the s***-show that was my Mum's Toyota Auris. Nice car, but plagued with issues from day one. I liked Skoda as a wee lad as the Fabia was beginning to pick up ground when I was young. I only bought mine because it was cheap and low mileage. It was either this or a Renault Clio.
  6. Hi Mike and a warm welcome to Briskoda! Glad to hear you like your Octavia.
  7. Thanks Pete, I didn't know that. I typically keep the revs higher since I live in a pretty hilly area anyway so going into 5th until almost 55 is typical for me since it has no power for hills otherwise.
  8. Not bad for a mobile phone and shaky hands IMO.
  9. Glad you've figured out which car it is. If it helps, pre-facelift Mk2 models adopted a number trim level system "1, 2, 3" as opposed to the conventional "Classic, Comfort/Ambiente, Elegance" of the Mk1. I usually use that as a general indicator for cars for sale on AutoTrader without photographs.
  10. Expanding on this... Error codes can be helpful with certain issues. However, they're not always the most accurate all the time. Sometimes these things require the use of your head and its problem-solving skills.
  11. Maybe completely wrong but worth checking anyway, what's the pipework like (e.g. the hose between the brake servo and the engine)? Is there any breaks in the pipework, particularly at the ends where it connects.
  12. Only if you want to keep up with faster traffic, like milk floats... Seriously, it's good when the revs are kept high as you say. Keeping it in 1st-3rd around town is easy, and as long as you do 70mph dead on when travelling on motorways then it'll sit happy (I passed an A4 Avant with ease, funnily enough) and mine sees 45mpg on the M77 between Ayr and Glasgow.
  13. You can go into 5th gear on flat ground from just above 25mph I've found. I wish it was the same over here! A new windscreen can change how old a car feels IMO. Made mine look like new even though it's done 56,000 miles and had a pretty hellish life. Be sure to keep us in the loop when you delve further into your project. Briskoda isn't good for the wallet, just a warning in advance.
  14. AnnoyingPentium posted a gallery image in Fabia MK I 1999-2007
  15. I don't know what it's like for your Insurance in France, but mine was a £75 excess payment for a new windscreen when I bit of wood hit mine and cracked the screen.
  16. I love mine from 3k rpm to the redline, my wallet doesn't though.
  17. Aye the 1.2 HTP does feel quite rough compared to other cars. Sounds good when you put the foot down, even if you don't move that quickly...
  18. I know power isn't your priority, but a TSI would definitely shift better and it's a newer car. It's all down to service history and condition at this point.
  19. Agreed. I love the form factor of a car like this. It might not be what I'm looking for currently, but there's something charming about their dinkyness.
  20. Thanks. I was curious as my Fabia is £170 currently, if it was registered after 01.01.2007 then it'd be £155, so I'm 10 days short. I don't know if I'd consider a Citigo though given that price.
  21. I think so. My Mk1 Fabia does the same thing when the door is opened, but only the once.
  22. Hello and a warm welcome to Briskoda, former lurker...
  23. I live in a valley, so I feel your pain. It pulls well on flat ground for a 1.2 however. Glad that you have a plan lined up for the various retrofits.
