  1. 'standard clutch fine for stage 1' no its not, it might be ok for a while but it will slip. have a venture onto the golf r forums where stock clutches with no remap start to slip.....
  2. it makes sense to get an uprated replacement. sachs performance clutch and fitting plus a replacement release bearing cost around a grand and took a day. is your car remapped? if not and you are thinking of it in the future don't replace with a stock clutch
  3. bit fiddly to get out as the silica was pretty solid and the wrong shape for coming out the round hole at the top. the little mosquito forceps were handy to grab an edge, but i went very gently to avoid tearing the bag. overall took less than five minutes to do!
  4. can you post the link to the exact led bulbs you bough for the front fogs t if possible? thanks
  5. i had this a few times in my mark 2 vrs - it appeared to be the radio. quite unnerving when it happened. Nothing similar to date in the Mk3
  6. If you have anything else plugged in remove it. My front and rear cameras appear to cause enough interference to disrupt dab signal, I think it is the cheapy Chinese four port cigarette / usb charger doing it
  7. great thread, just fitted mine this afternoon. I had to buy a M10 spline from local autopart shop which fits into a 10mm socket and it worked a treat. Moment of panic when I realised the female bit at the thin end of the strut was 90 degrees out from fitting on the wing ball stud but a slow twist sorted that out. very pleased with result for a grand total of about 55 quid.
  8. do you have a link for the one you bought? I have a non DSG but would be interested in this. does the resonator need cut out and the delete pipe sleeved in?
  9. factor in new front/rear droplinks as well - my original ones failed within weeks of each other about 2 months after having the ARBs fitted - all the extra stress i must have been putting through them!
  10. you will notice a much much bigger handling difference by upgrading the front and rear antiroll bars. the car will corner much flatter and you will notice a bigger improvement in handling to be honest then if you just change to the eibach pro kit without doing the ARBs. I was going from vrs to eibach pro/B8s so there may have been less of a ride/handling difference than going from 1.5 octavia to the eibach kit. the other advantage of ARBs first is they are cheaper than the eibach pro kit. decent tyres also make a big difference - michelin ps4 are very good
  11. possibly planning to get honeycomb grille fitted - will i need a new surround as well as the new grille? or does it just clip in when the existing one is removed i'm also looking to relocate a siren to the gap behind the front grille from its current position in the engine bay - might need to bodge up a bracket for it this is why i envisaged removing the bumper and doing foglights at same time
  12. ok, i've read through the thread and am still confused i have a mk3 vrs and want to upgrade the front fogs to LED. i know i need 4 bulbs. bumper is coming off soon and I want to do this when it is off i'm still not sure what fitting is required for direct replacement? H11 or H16? and H16 seem to have a JPN variant as well if anyone has a current link for aliexpress or somewhere in the uk for the ones i need please let me know! thanks
  13. the winter tyre speed warning makes a noise but also appears in the maxidot display so its probably not that.
  14. 40psi quite alot for winter - i find that salt on cold roads is much slippier than rain on cold roads - sometimes a good downpour is needed to wash off recent saltings. highly recommend michelin ps4 for 18" wheels, although i've just put on my winter continental contisports and they are great when temps are below 8 degrees or so
  15. budget around a grand for clutch and fitting. i have uprated sachs one. a bit heavier than stock but no more slip. don't replace with stock clutch if you are planning to remap. has the car already been remapped?
  16. I have my moto g6 setup to autoconnect with the car and it does this fine. if i receive an incoming call it plays through the car speakers fine. However if i make a call it seems to default to the phone speaker rather than the being able to talk out loud as usual handsfree. if i toggle the mic icon on the infotainment screen it works as it should handsfree. Any ideas why it does this?
  17. I bought mine from this seller https://picclick.co.uk/Skoda-Octavia-Strut-Brace-173263992834.html pain to fit. i messed it up and needed a friend with spring compressors and a bit of luck to fix things! (holes fell out of alignment when car jacked up and wheel/suspension strut moved relative to the holes) it cuts down on chatter through the steering wheel mid corner if there are bumps but its a pretty subtle improvement to be honest. Much more noticeable improvement handling wise when you upgrade the front and rear antiroll bars
  18. anyone have a BCS powervalve exhaust fitted to an octavia 3 estate? is there anything different underneath between hatch and estate as regards exhausts?
  19. i like the aukey ones on amazon, good value, good picture and great customer support when i had a faulty unit that worked but kept making a ticking noise
  20. I am going to go with a REVO stage 1 map - done Air Intake - i drilled out the blanked off bits in the stock air intake, removed the snow catcher tray thing and put in a performance air filter Exhaust - not done anything yet Suspension - upgraded ARB front and rear - needed new droplinks as well, dogbone mount, upgraded springs and dampers - eibach, front strutbrace Brakes - not done anything yet clutch - factor in a new uprated clutch if you are a non dsg car and have a remap. it will start to slip consider turbo inlet pipe upgrade and turbo muffler delete, michelin ps4 tyres also are very good
  21. i have the rear luggage holder thing in the boot that sits just underneath the retractable boot cover - its good for holding a brolly and a few waterproofs. i will try and dig out a part number for it - was around 60 quid but i think it is worth it there is no part code on the shelf but i ordered it through the local dealership edit - here it is http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-III/Octavia-III-Combi-original-Skoda-boot-multifunctional-box
  22. i've changed a few things front strut brace - bugger to fit but helps the car feel more composed when you hit bumps mid corner thicker front and antiroll bars from damian at dpmperformance - massive improvement in cornering - tauter, much less roll and flatter through corners. they killed the original droplinks very quickly, replacements have been fine uprated bilstein shocks and springs - work well together as you would expect as they are a matched kit michelin pilot sport 4 tyres - great grip in wet and dry engine mount insert - increased noise/vibration/harshness that settles after a while to a degree but vastly decreases episodes of wheelhop when making quick getaways
  23. my clutch started slipping around 10k post remap. i had it replaced with an uprated sach's one and it has been fine since
  24. i would advise against only replacing front or rear as you could potentially end up with a mismatched/unbalanced setup that could cause dangerous handling issues - get a kit with fairly matched front/rear thickness my top tips are to replace all you ARB droplinks at the same time as upgrading the antirollbars (and topmounts if replacing the shocks/springs) an uprated ARB kit really really improves the cornering and is one of the best things I have done edit - here is some more detail i posted a while back https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/455988-some-handling-upgrades/
  25. check the ARB droplinks carefully as these cause knocking over bumps like you describe - there seem to have been a few posts recently about noises like this - I wonder if they are all starting to fail at roughly the same age mine all went within a month of each other after i changed my ARBs to thicker ones and presumably put a bit more stress through them
