  1. Some interesting facts I didn’t know. So the GPF is standard on all 272 models even a 2018/19? Is this something more to go wrong like a diesel DPF? I did forget to mention Apple car play would be nice, is this standard now ? Given estate/combi models are rare I settled on a hatch also.
  2. Long time member currently own a 260k mile Octy 2 1.9TDI manual and 150k S2 170 TDI DSG Elegance combi with L&K extras. Been looking for a while at something special and noticed a few cars come and go. Prices in general are really strong. Have followed the S3 forum for a while to get a feel of things. Memory does not serve so looking for advice. What’s the difference between the 272 and 280 except the obvious 8 horses? Does one have 7 speed vs 6 speed DSG? A 220 would be plenty for me but they are quite rare, plus I like the idea of a sleeper. I know this has likely been done to death Sportline or L&K, personally I like the look of the Sportline but some of the L&K toys? Things I personally do want Canton from people on here is a must Heated front screen, have one now DCC again from people on here, plenty to go wrong also though? I love the twin rear chrome tailpipes look of the Sportline Like the idea of a sunroof, just no leaks etc. I don’t do big miles anymore so can take the hit if I need to drive 200 miles once or twice a month, plus can use one of the existing diesels, because one will go. I have seen a grey 272 lurking on the trader, oddly it’s hanging around not sure why, it’s a nice spec maybe an ex demo. Any advice any issues to look for? I can see we have some expert members on here. Apologies didn’t leave anyone out on purpose and if I shout the wrong member out. @ColinD master of all things Brisky, did you ever make the plunge? @Esseesse200 @shyvrs245 I can’t tag you for some reason @Superb170 Thanks in advance all
  3. Maybe you need to check the loom in that rear door to make sure that has not suffered the same fate, don’t rule out the front door still as it controls the rears and others from the drivers door. Maybe take the door card off and check electrics are reaching the door controller before assuming it’s that again ?
  4. That one looks different to my one on the Octavia. The superb has a cloth jacket as opposed to plastic. The Octavia one separates mid way half way down the battery on both sides. The 096/100 are quite large batteries and they fit nice and snug with the casing/covering. 278x175mm approx I think will fit here but I am pre-fl octy. There are plenty of posts on this here I’m sure.
  5. Fitting is simple. You need a 8 or 10 mm spanner for the nuts on the battery posts. And I think a 13mm long reach socket for the battery securing bolt and plate. About halfway across the width of the battery down the gap to the left of the battery in your picture. When removing the battery the plastic casing can be unclipped as it’s in 2 parts. I have not had to do that myself as i did a swap on my Octavia 2 yesterday for a used battery to tide me over. Sometimes when lifting the old battery out, it catches in the wing end so you need to angle it a little or slide it left towards the engine just to get it to clear the retainer in the battery tray(best explanation I could think of ) The warning lights will all extinguish except the steering light until you actually drive to extinguish that one. You will lose the miles since last fill on the dash. Radios not usually an issue as coded to the car. This is all from my experience on Octy 2005 and Superb 2011.
  6. The biggest one to fit in an Octavia 2 is type 096 or type 100. Diesel especially get the largest capacity AH and CCA, you can such as below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171524178659?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=skXrc9TbReq&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=45o-tdWCRea&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I have purchased one recently from them for my S2 and used ABS batteries before. I also got a discount against the auction of about £6 bringing cost down to about £75 delivered. At the moment next day delivery would be Tuesday/Wednesday. Tanya batteries is also a forum favourite they have a dedicated website plus eBay listings for things like a Varta E44 if you want a branded product. Think they deliver even on Saturdays. Please double check.
  7. If you are getting vibration through cabin could be dual mass flywheel. Have you ever had a clutch and flywheel changed?
  8. How far down did you have to pull the bellows back to find this issue? Did you essentially have a dead drivers door no electronics whatsoever? Did you need to remove the door card ?
  9. Plus one for DSG stat. Plenty of write ups on the s2 forum. Plus part numbers.
  10. Are you not able to have said panel repaired? there are about 3 eBay auction tailgates for sale. Watch for the corrosion around the number plate lights
  11. That’s a petrol 1.8T, usually only see a diesel with that kind of miles
  12. Or in the Maxidot if the OP has it fitted.
  13. Isn’t there a known problem fitting a non factory radio to anything pre 2007, will drain the battery or was that only when fitting a Columbus. A newer version of a component needed to be installed to prevent this. I forget the name of it. The OP has a 2005 car.
  14. I did not get this unfortunately, was beaten to it. Hopefully went to a good home.
  15. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165790829143?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=XHGDQlaMSRi&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=45o-tdWCRea&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY From a quick search warranty and all so you may get replacements if less than 3 years use ?
  16. I think ring or someone do a long life H7. They will just be standard types not ultra white etc
  17. PM sent
  18. I think I have a few of them still knocking about myself. I do remember the days of the fan running like mad and the area underneath the machine burning hot. Nothing less than W7/W10 running in our family now. But not on the N610c’s obviously.
  19. Vibration from near the front passenger side could be DMF (dual mass flywheel). I have not experienced it on a DSG but a manual 1.9. Or perhaps a wheel bearing if increases with speed. Not an expert just sharing my opinion.
  20. That’s a poor show from a main dealer. They should surely rectify this and provide another?
  21. I heard it can get very hot in the headlamp with headlights in LED and could lead to problems. I will let experienced people respond. Maybe stick with 30%+ brighter Halogens? plus the light pattern for some of these LED bulbs make them bad for road users.
  22. I forgot to add rear parking sensors so that discounts a lot of the cars out there. Coming from an elegance the spec is very much cut back on the vRS models. The fact I got maxidot and MFSW on the elegance was quite nice back in 2009 buying used.
  23. I owned my Octy 2 same colour as @FiiiTZiii 1.9 elegance 2005/55 since 2009 with 28k on it. Now has about 260k on it. Original turbo. New SM flywheel and clutch. New rear shocks. One front broken spring. Alternator pulley replaced. Cupra style console bushes. As it’s been a motorway car most of its life, rust is the enemy, sills and a few other areas. It just keeps on going though. Starts first time. Services every 10k with fresh oil and filter. Original exhaust and wheel bearings. the boot is massive on the hatch.
  24. I am hoping there are some people on here who can help me with a new car choice. I currently own a mark 2 Octy 1.9 TDI Elegance 2005 and a Superb 2 Estate DSG 170 elegance 2011. I like both cars in their own way. The tech in the Superb 2 is amazing even though old. The Octy has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. Added about 230k to it. I have also owned a Fabia vRS for a short while and that was fun little rocket. I am now thinking of something sporty again. Been window shopping an Octy VRS. Manual as DSG is nothing special, in my Superb not as smooth at low speeds and changes up too soon. I crave reliability, don’t we all, so with that in mind and petrol is on the table what car age should I be looking at? later post 2010 appear to have cam chain related issues? How about coaked up inlets? The earlier models were cambelt so are they any better? i would like Bluetooth, SD card. MFSW electric windows and sunroof, again as long as that is trouble free. Any pointers what to look out for and what to avoid? Thanks
