  1. At the moment here in Ireland Skoda will supply and fit a timing belt kit for 380 euro, its not worth considering doing it myself.
  2. That's correct, until we actually see the results its just pure speculation. However EU cars do not have to meet US specs so our "fix" is going to be completely different, similar to what Jag had to do to the E Type lights to sell in the US. Around the same time CAT tried to sell a dozer in the UK that was ok in the states but the UK deemed it to noisy!! Whats far more interesting is whats going to happen in some court rulings. In simple terms the EU are not going to drop VW in it. Have you noticed how quiet all other manufacturers have been?
  3. Mine doesn't fail NCT tests at the moment and wont fail after the update. I've no intention of taking it to the US so it will never be an issue. Then again if you guys leave the EU and join the US it would be a problem
  4. Got mine too. Info from the trade says only change is to delete the "cheat" software
  5. Let us know if you find something, I find the Superb seats are not comfortable and like others on here noted the MK1 seat was far better. I wont buy another unless I can sort the seats.

  7. Dealer never seen a wheel bearing go before? A month to get one? Do these guys make it up as they go along? AFAIK you need part number 4B0498625
  8. Possibly space back the bracket in the door? It looks like it might work. Bit chilly crossing the Shannon theses day?
  9. Something like this: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/int5.shtml
  10. If you find one let me know, I had one fill with water after a suspected shopping trolley collision. For now its ok with a drainage hole drilled and some sealer on the damage.
  11. I checked with a few tyre suppliers and they had 50 profile listed but best to check yourself. As for fuel consumption I've definitely not seen an increase, if anything its improved since I fitted a set of Dunlops. I'm not going back to 40 profile as the improvement in comfort and reduced cost of ownership is huge. No more damaged tyres!
  12. I checked with my present insurance company and it was not a problem but they will not cover replacing the wheels if they are damaged in an accident. BTW 225/50/17's are standard tyres on Superbs in some makets.
  13. A few years back UK Elegance did not have dimming mirrors or heated rear seats but they were standard on Irish spec. I've seen some UK SE's over here that didn't have xenon lights. I'm sure others will be along with more details..
  14. "I assume that there is a loose connection somewhere behind the switch, and once I am sufficiently bored one weekend and can work out how to remove the panel without destroying it I will have a look and see." Most certainly worth a look, I'm sure there's a guide on here on how to remove the panel, somebody will be along to help with that.
  15. There isn't an issue with water ingress under the carpets in the mkII, That was with the mkI. Do the lights come on when you open doors other than the drivers?
  16. If only your rugby team were as good as your jokes. LOL
  17. I'm running 225/50/17's (A6 wheels) at the moment, moved from 18's and I'm not going back. I did check with insurance and the company I'm with at the moment had no issue with the change. No problems whatsoever with clearance and the speedo is still within range. They are actually listed as original equipment in some of the tire fitters manuals.
  18. I think these are replaced by a dealer FOC. I was offered them for my 2010 but think i'll get the newer style instead.
  19. I also went from a 2005 MK 1.9 130 Elegance to a 2010 MK 2 2.0 170 Elegance, and the 170 is approx 10% lighter on fuel than the 130. I had the 130 for 160,000km and have the 170 for 60,000km so far. I'm doing the same type of driving with both. The 170 is far smoother than the 130, more linear, no kick like the 130 when the turbo came on song.
  20. Approx 60euro is the trade rate for a good pair of discs,
  21. Yes it chain, some well know problems but supposedly modified parts have cured them. As mentioned above they have a very characteristic rattle on start up.
  22. KBPhoto, thanks for the info, I've never got around to checking what my unit is actually running, just considered mine to be "old". I must take it out and see what it says on the sticker, its never been upgraded. The sites you mentioned are indeed a great source of info. The best check of all would be to get a loan of a disc and try it.
