  1. I had a Michelin electric one for over 10 years but that went with the Octavia to my ex, so I'm now using the Halfords electric one which seems almost as good. Halfords Rapid Digital Tyre Inflator
  2. I put Goodyear Eagle F1s on my 1.4 Elegance, don't like "eco" tyres because they get their low rolling resistance by having hard compounds which compromise grip.
  3. Gas bonnet struts gets my vote, first thing I added to my Octavia.
  4. For me this is a fundamental flaw with 'black box' insurance schemes - in cases like this they penalise you for avoiding an accident where you would be the innocent party.
  5. Yes, the TP channel is continuously monitored even when you are listening to other music sources, and will pause the MP3 currently playing during the TP announcement.
  6. This isn't a new problem with the Octavia 4 - the same thing happened on the Octavia 3 key batteries with kessy - the keys are VERY sensitive to battery voltage, the only "cure" was to fit fresh batteries from a major manufacturer.
  7. I'm not talking bus lanes, HOV means ANY vehicle with more than one occupant - car, bike, trike, bus, etc.
  8. And if possible implement camera monitored HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes like many US cities with big fines for driver only vehicles using them.
  9. With the latest predicted inflation rate possibly getting into double figures I wouldn't be betting against it. Bank of England
  10. As the pressures drop the rotational speed of the wheels increases, keeping a long term record of wheel rotational speeds allows this increase in rotational speeds to be detected and reported as a loss of pressure. That's how VAG explain it... I certainly had my Octavia 3 report loss of pressure in all 4 tyres (I set the tyres during a heatwave and when the temperature dropped the tyre pressures dropped and the TPMS light came on), yes I did need to pump up all 4 tyres.
  11. There are also different generations of each of them, which are referred to as MIB1, MIB2 and MIB3. Some differences between generations: MIB1 versions do not support CarPlay or Android Auto. MIB1 & MIB2 versions have map updates locally via USB and/or SD card but MIB3 versions have map updates over the air (OTA).
  12. That's true of the original indirect TPMS software that only compared current rotational speed of the wheels with each other, but the TPMS software in the Octavia 3 can detect loss of pressure in all 4 wheels - it keeps a long term set of data that will show loss of pressure in all 4 wheels.
  13. When I purchased my previous Octavia as a one year old approved Skoda used car the dealer had painted the nearside rear OE fit alloy wheel, paint which came off the first time I washed the car! So I took the wheel to the local powder coater in Southampton and the wheel was still perfect when my ex sold the car over 5 years later.
  14. My ex's 2005 Fabia didn't have any battery coding - principally because it didn't have stop/start, so I don't expect your 2004 Fabia will need coding either.
  15. Do you have rain sensing or plain intermittent wipers?
  16. I saw this on my previous 1.4TSI Octavia estate and was initially puzzled by it, but as said it seems to be a normal part of the underbody protection.
  17. It's always been said on the Ross-Tech (the makers of VCDS) website that if you get the wrong "colour code" airbag module then they know of no way to convert it to one with the correct colour code?
  18. Over 30 years ago I was leading a team at an automotive consultancy which had developed an engine sound synthesiser based on measurements of REAL engines, my company Vauxhall could be made to sound like an American V8, a German flat-6 or a highly tuned inline 4. None of the car manufacturers were interested then but with EVs (and even some ICE vehicles) now having sound generators that might not have been one of their better decisions - another case of our work being ahead of the market need 😎
  19. That's reminded me just how much I miss the sound of the high revving V8 in my previous Audi RS4 🥲
  20. Ask any Skoda dealer for a paper copy?
  21. I don't even have an Octavia 4!
  22. My Renault 5GT Turbo had a similar fan to cool the carb, made several people jump when it suddenly turned on a few moments after I turned off the engine! After having Brodie Brittan Racing 'do their thing' (negative camber front suspension and a boost tweak) that was a cross country beast (no ABS and no TC) - not surprising since it had 180bhp according to their dyno and weighed less than an empty baked bean can!
  23. With an SD card plugged in I have 8 devices on my PC (5 local and 3 NAS) and never yet(!) formatted the wrong one. Why format instead of delete? - as I said it's much quicker, because it only writes to the FAT so it also has less effect on the SD card life (like all electrically erasable devices they have a finite number of write cycles).
  24. Reformatting using quick format is much quicker than deleting the existing files & folders.
  25. AFAIK that's certainly how both CarPlay and Android Auto work - initial connection using Bluetooth which is used to initiate a WiFi connection (not sure Bluetooth could offer the latency and data rate needed?).
