  1. Can’t disagree with that. The rears on our original P7 still had 4mm after 37k and 3mm on the fronts. Changed them in Dec 23 for Conti AllSeason as we were travelling to Donegal that Christmas. Really fantastic grip in the slushy and icy conditions there and, as a massive bonus, a HUGE reduction of tyre roar in the cabin! The P7’s were even noisier on the 280 than the Kelly Springfield tyres were, which I had on my ‘71 Cooper S; I think they were probably made of coal! 😊
  2. Your choice is dependent on many factors, including upfront cost, fuel and insurance costs. What’s your budget? Manual or DSG? And annual mileage?
  3. I’ll get the indy I use to change the coolant when it has its annual oil change next month.
  4. Anyone know if the VAG Silikat cartridge will fit in a standard header tank?
  5. Given that was probably not cheap, can it be returned?
  6. I replaced the OE Silikat header tank yesterday with a non silikat unit. Took about 15 minutes from start to finish. Using hose clip pliers, I removed the top hose from the tank first (which took the most amount of time during the whole job, as it was very reluctant to budge!) then freed-up the plastic hose support bracket connected to the side of the tank. Then, I applied upward pressure on the rear of the tank and using a flat blade screwdriver, I undid the two clips on the top rear of the tank until they’d become disconnected and finally, using both hands, I yanked the bottom fixing out of the hole in the wheelarch and the tank was free. I then turned the tank 45 degrees and removed the bottom hose, and quickly turned the tank upside down whilst keeping a finger on the top hose inlet. I then emptied the G13 into a jug and then installed the new tank, replaced the G13 from the old tank, topped it up with fresh G13 to the top of the min mark and then ran the car upto temp to check for leaks.
  7. mine was found when they were fixing an airco leak. You could see the staining on the engine block. Brace yourself for a big bill. 😖
  8. Skoda love rejecting water ingress warranty claims, cos naturally, all components such as these that, y’know, get wet are designed (badly) to take in water and fail. 🙄
  9. IIRC, I think they were 8mm. They’ve done 8k since I got them in Dec 23 so I can measure them and report back. WHAT - a whole FIVE YEARS?!!? Clearly he’s the goto SME then… 🙄
  10. Conti All Season. Fantastic tyres and soooo quiet too.
  11. We are not worthy….. quite astonishing.
  12. I think ApertureS answered your question in response to your original post.
  13. Errrr, no. You do it because you’re INSANE!!! 😊 All I’d be left with would be a wonky dash with nothing working and a pile of “leftover” bits in the footwell.
  14. I must admit, a heated wheel really did appeal this week!
  15. Yeah, that’d make sense. It’s ridiculously small for the volume of fluid it kicks out and it’s even worse still for those with headlamp washers.
  16. Oh right, I didn’t notice that. I thought the OP said he’d lost seat memory settings.
  17. It’s 3.1 litres with a headlamp wash system and 3.7 without, which is weird..
  18. My MKII CD170 Manual failed at 45k. Main symptoms were judder pulling away in 1st and it clattered like crazy, but tbh I don’t know if it’d be the same with a DSG. It was bloody expensive too, about £1,400 and that was in 2012. No idea what the cost would be now.
  19. Yep. They were all using cheap Russian steel and zero paint protection. Fiat/Lancia/Alfa got the brunt of bad press, but they were all buying it.
  20. Move the seat all the way forward. When it stops, move the switch forward again and the seat will move a cm or so. Do the same when moving the seat back; when it stops, move the switch backwards again and the seat will move back a bit more. Then reset the seat memories.
  21. These are the cars that are on SORN - Statutory Off the Road Notification, where the owner informs the government that they own the car but it’s not parked on the road so is not liable for tax. I expect the owners were all, or maybe are all still “planning” to restore them. And you’re right - it’d be at huge expense especially given the lack of parts.
  22. I’m getting 22-23 in the cold weather this week on our 2016 280 but my commute is tiny, just 2 miles in each direction, which is about the same as the wife’s 2003 2.0 Focus! During the summer I get 24-26 on the same journey. On a decent 200 mile drive I’ve had around 35-37 and I did once get 39 on a 300 mile drive, but that involved long stretches of 50mph roadworks on the M6.
  23. If only, Bap. Here, there are 5 TI’s which are all off the road, 5 SL Autos off and 1 on the road, 2 GTI’s and 2 STI’s, all four of which are off the road.
