  1. Excellent write-up Graham. I hope I don’t have to ever undertake the fix, but this’ll really help if I need to; well done.
  2. Welcome to Briskoda. Unfortunately, trying to guess what the fault is without information isn’t helpful to you. You need to get the car scanned with VCDS or similar and then post any fault codes that this reveals.
  3. Jesus! That’s enough to blind any oncoming vehicles!
  4. Yes, there are. They’re unbelievably greedy and immoral; they just have to keep their margins as high as possible. There’ll be higher numbers of scams and uninsured drivers as a result of these massive hikes.
  5. Speculating on the cause is pointless, as you’ll get 60 suggestions, 1 of which maybe right, so you need a scan of the car to see what fault codes are showing up. When you’ve done it, post the results.
  6. @PaulinkeighleyWhats the urgency to change the car, Paul? Are you on a rental?
  7. That’s exactly my experience. I paid Sterling Insurance, who are owned by Adrian Flux, £318 with excess protection, 5k miles and £100 compulsory excess (zero voluntary) in June 22. I had no claims during the year. The renewal they quoted for this year was….. wait for it….. £567, which is a 78.3% increase! Oh and the excess? Yeah, the compulsory £100 went to £425! I was expecting an increase, as the comparison sites quotes, like your experience, had came back with quotes that were between 30 and 120% premium increases. I then remembered there was a banner ad on here for an insurer and found it was Chris Knott and their quote came in best at only a 23.4% increase at £390 which is still absolutely outrageous. I was in the risk business for fleet and combined commercial insurance for 15 years and this so-called “hardening of the (retail) market” is completely driven by the underwriting cartel decision to whack the poor old motorist yet again for the “softening” incomes made during C19 and the ever increasing numbers of world governments and authorities insurance claims, caused by the effects of global warming and boy, haven’t they done well. Ripoff Britain strikes again.
  8. Don’t know what size alloys you have, but you could fit higher profile tyres when they’re due to be changed, Graham.
  9. TBH @Graham Butcher, the difference between the Normal and Comfort setting isn’t night and day, but it’s enough to stop the hitting the bump stop, especially when you’re loaded-up. I agree it’s nice to have the overall smoother Comfort ride on the motorway (we travelled back home yesterday from Birkenhead so 240-odd motorway miles) but on urban roads it’s awful, bouncing around over on uneven surfaces. And over sleeping policemen it’s like being in a boat!
  10. Sorry - you want it to bottom? I didn’t realise that was your objective.
  11. YAY! Magnetic Brown Metallic? I think that’s two of us 280’s now with that colour! 😂 Notice any improvement after you’ve fitted the new turbo inlet?
  12. Loose all the lettering. It’s sooooo much cleaner imo and trust me years ago, I was Mr Badgeman!
  13. @hwntw Can you add a photo of the part?
  14. OK. So if you keep the washers on, does it run out quickly and if you pour water into the tank right upto the brim, does water run out under the car? If not then I’m at a loss how it’s keeping fluid in the reservoir with a dirty-great hole in it.
  15. Turn on the ignition. Without sitting on the seat, send the seat all the way to the front. When it stops, release the switch, then press the switch forward again and the seat will move forward a few mm and stop. Then do the same in reverse - literally. Make the seat go all the way back. When it stops, release the switch, then press the switch back again and the seat will move back a few mm and stop. Get in and adjust the seat to the position you want. Now press the “Set” button and select the corresponding memory button you wish to use and you’ll get the confirmation “bong” from the dash.
  16. Or National Tyres (now part of Halfrauds of course), who decided my wife’s Fucus needed 50psi all round when I had them all replaced a couple of years ago…
  17. I’m not sure it’s a good idea to wait tbh. The last thing you want, is for it to completely fail and you can’t close it (or open it for that matter!) in the ikea car park! Since we’ve had the car, compared to those on other owners Superbs, Golfs and Octavia, the struts creek and squeal like an unlubed front ARB, both going up and down. The dealer wouldn’t change them though, as they operate fine.
  18. I suggest you Google on that one. But I’d also advise you get an account with erWin Skoda and download the workshop manuals for the car. You’re bound to need it again in the future. Think it’s about €8 for an hours use.
  19. Yep: there ain’t much AS doesn’t know about the SIII!
  20. I’d try resetting it again as sometimes they can go a bit squiffy. For instance, this morning, the drivers window one shot wouldn’t auto open or close it, so I manually closed it and held the switch up for 10 secs and it was fine again.
  21. Correct. They’re only at full tilt when you select “Max” on the central dial demist button. Look for “Air Distribution Control” in the owners manual.
  22. The NS mirror should return to its normal position once you’re above 10kph (I think it’s something like that) or you turn the ignition off. Take a look in your manual. I don’t have a profile as such, as I’ve enabled easy entry, but once that’s set, it’s fine. What does yours do, intermittently?
  23. YES. But you’ll need access to VCDS to enable it. It’s so simple, I’m astonished that VAG haven’t told their multi marque dealer network how it can be fixed. Oh.. hang on…
