  1. If you have a Skoda Columbus or Amundsen with a code card then you're looking at the older generation head units, not the later ones as fitted in the 2015 onwards Yeti. A code card just means someone has provided that unit with the unlock code it needs when first powered up in a car, it doesn't mean anything about component protection being avoided because if it comes with a code card then it won't have Component Protection, and as such isn't the topic of discussion here (or was three years ago...)
  2. No, I cheated... 😇
  3. Any help? It's a left hand drive automatic.
  4. It's not that simple I'm afraid. There are no "hidden files" as such that you can access without some hi tech knowledge, and to be honest if you're asking for the files then you wouldn't be able to use them. The Skoda card has a specific Cid (card identification) which the unit looks for when inserted, but to change the Cid on a standard card isn't something you're gonna be able to do.
  5. That's strange, because when I search with Google for 7zip, the first result is 7zips own site. I can't see me going past that to find a dodgy site / link. 😉
  6. Be careful how you connect jump leads people... 😉
  7. The pitch on the rear caliper screw thread is very coarse. You'd need to be fairly specific to manufacture a tool with this thread pitch, which would make it a VW spcific tool and clearly impact the price. The wind - adjust method works just fine really, but if it concerns you so much then the VW tool (and price) would be the only other option I guess.
  8. Zip utility included in Windows might be suitable, yes. But I've had issues with unzipping files before both with Windows and Winzip. 7Zip has never once failed. Plus if you choose to download anything from Cnet and the like instead of 7Zips own site (which is free anyway so I don't understand the "Free Download" - "Adware" comment) then expect them to sideload all sorts of unwanted crap.
  9. I'll send you a message.
  10. What car is it fitted in?
  11. You'll need to post it to me, turnaround is a day or so then I post it back to you.
  12. £45 gets you the laser cleaned properly, the software updated, and the maps reinstalled. Plus postage to me or drive up if you're close to North Yorks.
  13. I'd like to hazard a guess at the seller, but I fail to see why I should advertise for him given I fix so many of his problems lately. I offer a service & repair for members here. Most likely it'll need a laser clean, a Hard Drive format, asoftware reinstall and a maps reload. Drop me a message if you want any more info.
  14. I've bought from China RF before. The cable is pretty much exactly the same as all the others I've bought from other suppliers. Just for info, the Fakra cables are merely SMB connections in a plastic shroud, so you might find a Fakra connector will just fit onto the SMB connection on the Kenwood. It won't lock on like a Fakra will but I guess it's not subject to any pulling and pushing once installed so it might save you having to buy an adapter.
  15. The cables are effectively the same, just different colour plugs to signify specific connections. Therefore a Blue GPS Fakra C won't fit on a Black DAB Fakra A & vice versa. There are Fakra Z connection cables which will fit all connectors and they're a lighter blue though. As regards enabling DAB, it's highly unlikely that you have DAB and it's disabled. I'd be checking that your RNS (315 or 510?) actually has the DAB hardware and black Fakra connection before going any further.
  16. They took something that worked, and turned it upside down. Then took all the good stuff and put it behind something else making it invisible.
  17. Just got the new Firefox Mobile app this morning. It's awful The end.
  18. Ah, so you bought the damaged one then. I'd wondered where it'd gone and if the new owner had seen the damage. As regards the Kenwood. I'm presuming that unit provides 12v through the DAB aerial connection as 6R0 035 501 D requires 12v on the DAB connection. Unfortunately I can't see which is the DAB connection on the Kenwood unit, but ti's rather irrelevant as I wouldn't know which type of adapter it would need to go to a Fakra connection. However, 5Mtr Fakra extensions are available on Ebay, cheapest being this one. It's a Fakra Z extension and as such will fit any and all Fakra plugs, so you can buy 2 and use one for DAB & one for GPS, as long as you mark the DAB one as DAB etc. so there's no confusion. If you really want specific colours for the Fakra plugs then expect to pay double. As regards a new DAB Fakra plug they're also available on Ebay. See here.
  19. Any reason why you'd want to do this? It wouldn't gain anything other than not actually having the maps on the unit.
  20. What exactly do you mean by "tried to upload the new map version"? There's no upload procedure needed. All you need to do is unzip the download, copy the unzipped file to the SD card and put it in the machine.
  21. Don't worry too much about the faulty Columbus, send it to me and I should be able to repair it for you. It sounds like a common fault.
  22. No, can't be rectified with VCDS, but I can usually save it for you.
  23. If it's just new roads which are putting you off road then yes, it's most likely just the maps. I presumed you were off road as in miles away from where you actually were, that would be a faulty gps. Yes, I've had a few issues to sort with sellers of hookey disks, but you might be lucky. I can't really recommend anyone other than main dealers or downloading them for free yourself.
  24. It won't cure the fact that you're "off road". You have a faulty GPS antenna. I also hope your discs dont brick your unit, I'm getting fed up of fixing them for him...
  25. Depending on specification, it could be wired either way. I can't see from here...😋
