  1. All good - was more anecdotal than anything; just meant needing to be careful when I bought the brakes (thanks to the forum if nothing else!) - looking for a correct remap is something else mind you
  2. Good question. The insurance companies all return the correct make/model when I put in the number plate so on that basis I'm going to say yes - on all the ones I seek quotes for anyway. But if its anyone's responsibility, it definitely isn't mine. If anything. what she said was hearsay speculation from an employee - don't know whether she's fobbing me off, whether it is an actual data error, if so whether the error is on DVLA or Skoda side if so etc etc. I don't know enough about how the DVLA get data and how its stored/transferred etc. It has been challenging making sure I get the right parts recently as ordered brakes and a lot of motor factors still list 300m rear discs (4WD are 312mm) when (a) I put in the number plate and it comes back the right model. Although some don't distinguish between the 280 -> 272 -> 280 journey either. So somewhere along the way some databases aren't accurate or fully updated but...insurance company ones seem to be and if push comes to shove Skoda could find it if they could be bothered to...
  3. Oh no - that's the beauty of it. Some in english, some in german. Looking at previous posts, I think they have also changed over the years too so some people might be posting about an adaption for daytime running lights and instead you find yourself looking at tagfahrlicht...
  4. Not surprised they don't know the colour- mine is Black Magic, but when I contacted Skoda HQ through their internet chat thing, the guy confirmed a different black (and, when I challenged him, basically said "its all black isn't it"). When I had my last service at the dealer, the confirmation email came back to say it was an Estate and it was a 2.0 TDI. Its a petrol hatchback. When I pointed it out, the reply was "don't worry, it will be our external system, we sometimes get errors where dvla have past over details". Not like they have any connection to a company with every minute detail of the car on a database.
  5. Mostly about turbo boost pressure as much as anything right? Even standard, 320 in the Golf 8 compared to the 220 in an Escort Cosworth is an impressive sign of the times.
  6. No chance for an aftermarket replacement with a template for the bolt pattern?
  7. That's AWD for you
  8. I think it is all the same car - there’s been a couple of posts. Tbh I don’t get it - it’s purported as a swansong but it’s not for sale, just a one-off. So basically someone from Skoda took their car to a tuner and got 500bhp out of it. And so did a few guys on here. And so did a load more with other VAG EA888-engines cars.
  9. Is this this one - or have they done another one? https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/526024-swansong-for-siii-280-sleeper-edition-sic-transit-gloria-mundi/#comment-5877594
  10. I think I remember reading that despite being connected using CarPlay/Android Auto, the position is dictated by the car, not the phone. So I think this comes down to either: - MIB software version, or - GPS aerial giving up the ghost. Mine is a marginally-older hatchback and had similar experiences to yours (although I would also lose the emergency call function and the Columbus would be garbage) when I first picked it up (6months old) but Skoda updated the software and everything has been sorted since then.
  11. Cheers Pete - will do if I need to know specs just in case!
  12. Haven't found the option in ECP, GSF, or any aftermarket part supplier yet...just number plate orcar type. Like I say - some get the car type right, but still list the wrong parts. E.g. all Superb 3V 4x4 have 312mm rear brake discs, 300mm for the FWD cars. Yet despite agreeing that you are searching for a 4x4 car, they offer 300mm rear discs.
  13. Possibly a little niche to the Superb - original 2016 top engine was 280bhp EA888 Gen3. Then switched to 272bhp. Then FL moved to Gen4 engine, back to 280bhp. Discs for 4wd are 340mm front and 310mm rear. The number of places that, despite putting my number plate in - either gives 272bhp as the option, or 300mm (rear disc size for fwd) or constantly refer to EA888 Gen3. Even if I put in the model, you don't get the options despite them asking for the year. The only way I can get anywhere near consistency is just to put in (for engine) is that its a Mk Golf R or (for brakes) that its a Golf R Mk7. Makes looking for parts so much more tricky.
  14. Glad it got resolved and thanks for posting the resolution. Looks like there have been issues historically with these (although not sure if yours was similar or just a random failure that can happen).
  15. Ok so more playing about resolved! HVAC Coding Byte 14 Bit 6-7 seems to the type of steering wheel which I’d changed inadvertently. Changed from 00 Heated_steering_wheel_version, not active to 80 Heated_steering_wheel_version,LRH_Gen_2_mod Thank god for that. There are other Bytes referring to the type of steering wheel heating. Has to be set to Installed, Multi-Level, and the auto setting not activated. Phew!
  16. Hi, For sale are parts I bought not realising I have a Gen4 engine with some fundamental design changes 🤦‍♂️ Originally bought by another member who ended up selling the car before using. Then sold to me, and since they won’t fit on the car, I may as well have someone else enjoy them. So: Racingline Turbo Inlet Elbow Racingline Intake Hose Racingline Turbo Muffler Delete. Snapshot of looking at them on Progressive Parts is £360. Looking for £200. Means you can adapt this with whichever induction kit you wish. Any questions, give me a shout. Cheers, Lee
  17. Just an off-chance question if one of the whizzkids on here have any ideas: My heated steering wheel doesn't work, hasn't for a couple of years. Press the button and nothing happens. Checked fuse and all good. Took it to Skoda when still under warranty and the tech said the system was showing a temp which meant the system was not turning on because it was automatically cutting-off. Changed steering wheel under warranty and still no change. He said that he could escalate to Skoda HQ but if I was mucking about with VCDS and the logs showed, then Skoda could opt not to change under warranty and then I'd be on the hook for the wheel and the time cost. Fair enough so we left it. But I was thinking...whilst mucking about a couple of years ago, on VCDS to activate various things, I'm fairly sure on a longcoding screen in Central Electronics I spotted something about the steering wheel type...and possibly changed something that I thought was logical but may have inadvertently meant the system isn't looked for a heated steering wheel function etc. The question is - does anyone happen to have an idea what areas I may have messed? Cocky me decided not to backup before undertaking changes 🤦‍♂️
  18. Agree - tried and failed multiple times. Is a shame as would look great but something changed in possibly the physical headlight cluster (I think as there is a different code to the pre-FL versions) even though it seems like the coding would be logical.
  19. Oh right - I was looking at yellow and red; thought yellow might be too OTT for me and that Redstuff would be better as they're ceramic, but went with the ATE's instead. Good to know!
  20. Best as in for keeping clean? That's going to be a ceramic coating realistically. If you want them looking perfect, then you're looking at taking them off, refurbing and then doing the coating. However, if its not going to be a showcar and you just want looking good and keeping clean easily, then just removing and giving a thorough clean and decontamination and then coating. By decontamination, that involves: Pre-washing, Iron fallout remover, Contact wash with shampoo, Tar remover, Claying. If it was bodywork, then you'd want to machine-polish to get the clearcoat looking its best (removing the marring from, amongst other things, the claying process) but probably not completely necessary for wheel barrels given the lack of exposure. Otherwise/Also, I'd look at low-dust pads when you change (I've got ATE Ceramic pads on order as good reviews) and decent barrel brushes to clean inside when you do do it. Personally, I'm happy just keeping my clean with brushes when I clean the car.
  21. TCU remaps make a lot of sense on their own as its another thing that improves the behaviour of the component which is sub-optimal comparatively. Look at all the benefits that the APR one gives you; the otherone on my radar is the TVS version - and they both have aspects that improve the longevity of the gearbox as much as help get standard/uprated power onto the road more efficiently etc. TVS do a deal on price for both, so the cost benefit is there for both.
  22. I had an E36 328i (which were brilliant for tuning as there was so much you could do) - the mod that felt the most noticeable was removing the viscous-coupled radiator fan. Switch around thermostat and auxiliary fan switch from other 3-series models so all safe. It lifted so much weight/inertia from the engine that the midrange throttle response was night and day. Guessing similar sort of thing to a lightened flywheel - no power added, just on-tap quicker.
  23. Rear brakes on 3mm and front in 4mm; discs with enough wear so took the opportunity to look at brakes. Was set on EBC Turbo grooved and Redstuff until I read through some stuff on here so Mtec Drilled/Grooved and ATE Ceramic pads on order. Mtec have a deal on at the mo so worked out well cost wise.
  24. Exactly why you have a leather brush to (gently) clean leather steering wheels 👍
  25. Lovely looker and the beading is looking great too. Def get a pedal box. I'm sure they're all much of a muchness but I have Racechip XLR and its great - plug it in, download the iphone app and can control everything from there. I did have it on Sport+ but eventually put it on Race+ (most sensitive of all) and that's perfect for me.
