  1. How old is your brake fluid? Too high a water content in the fluid can cause brake fade …..
  2. Cheers I used Bilt Hamber medium car clay to decontaminate the paintwork, then used Meguiars 205 polish on an orange Lake Country pad on my Das-6 Pro +
  3. Some diagnostic tools don’t some or all errors, even if they are present.
  4. I helped remove and reinstall the gearbox and transfer box on a LR Defender (old one) a couple of weeks ago. Despite being four hands, we still needed an axel and transmission stand and was done on a 2-poster ramp. Heavy isn’t the word! Sounds like you have some decent experience behind you, but for sure you’re gonna need a second person due to the weight, even with detaching the transfer box from the actual gearbox. Good luck and hope it goes well
  5. I had too many apples last night, so thanks for correcting that for me
  6. For a long time I had the opinion that these type of for sale ads that seem too good to be true are just that. However, I am now in the same position as the current owner of the car being talked about with a ‘55 plate Honda Civic being readied for sale (feel free to shoot me for owning something other than a VAG ) that has just 32k miles on the clock, is in almost pristine condition inside and just the odd bit of damage here and there (you really have to look for them) so have a little bit of faith that these unusual cars do actually exist! As Wino has said, really consider if everything ties in with the age and mileage (the condition of the boot is a good indicator for me) and, if does crack on! In answer to your question, the usual things to look for are leaking door carriers, wishbone bushes quickly fail, rusty sills and tailgate (just above the registration plate) sticking rear callipers.....there are others that I have missed, which I’m sure you’ll come across with a quick scan through threads or using the pretty good search function.
  7. Depends on what the damage to the cylinder head is..... how did you accidentally scratch the cam ..... just two of the many questions people will need to know to give any kinda response to your rather unambiguous post.
  8. I reckon you will be able to reduce it/lose some of the white, but it looks like you’re done to the base coat/primer or plastic of the bumper in places. T-cut will be ok, but will require some elbow grease. I would use a mixture of everything I’ve mentioned to reduce it as much as I could.
  9. I would say there’s your answer. Describe “looks terrible”!? This is terrible looking ‘box oil
  10. I was gonna say the same thing, but thought the video would be enough to show that
  11. Sounds like you’re dropping gearbox oil, which if is really old will be as black as engine oil. Stick your fingers in it and it’ll probably smell terrible and nothing like engine oil.
  12. Have a look on YouTube. I’m sure there’s videos on the mk4 Golf, which will be the same or very similar.
  13. I assume you mean the knock could be heard as the car was being towed?
  14. I disagree. Mine properly snapped at 50mph and the only damage was 2 bent valves. The belt was about 4 years and three weeks old and covered 24k, for the record.
  15. This!! I actually fully serviced my wife’s car last Tuesday before she took it to Cornwall from Bristol, so I know it was fine. The day she came back she told me about the issue. Took it for a drive and felt it myself.... there were 3 days between me looking at those parts and the symptoms appearing. It can and sometime does happen that quickly.
  16. Check the bottom ball joints. My wife described the same symptoms as you, had a quick check and found this ..... I’ll replaced the lower arm on Tuesday and expect it to be gone..... though not 100% guaranteed and I may also need to keep looking
  17. Got any pictures? I’ve had fairly decent results using car clay to improve a scuff, but still had to hit it with a machine to completely get rid of it.
  18. As a free check to rule something out I would take that auxiliary belt off and see if it goes away.
  19. Don’t book it in to get to changed, book it in to diagnose the problem first!
  20. I agree with Sep. The clicking sound is the starter solenoid, possibly that the hold-on coil is defective. If it happens again give the solenoid a whack, if you can access it. If not, try rocking the car in top gear to rule out a stuck pinion, but I reckon you’ll need a new starter motor.
  21. This thread reminds me of my Need For Speed Underground days
  22. I’ve only made my ABS kick in when braking at speed over uneven ground. Only ever time I’ve felt it was when there was a break in the ABS ring, which only kicked in when applying the brakes at <5mph
  23. They were also using this type in 2010.... changed my mates cambelt and water-pump on his Audi S3 last week and these fell out the empty expansion tank.
  24. BSD would be my choice, but do agree it can be grabby. Not the end of the world once you get the feel of the product. I have used Demon Shine..... mixed bucket of water and Demon Shine, Chuck it over the car and job done, but prefer the finish that BSD gives. Awesome beading
  25. Cheers guys. Well, it was an Instagram purchase, believe it or not Ive gotta get up for work, but I’ve got a few on the wife’s car to do, so will get some more pics of the tool etc and little explanation.
