Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
..awake at 345am.. got another 20mins between then and 630am alaram... 8.6km this morning. problems... had to stop and walk about 300m after about 5.5km, the pain in my right knee was awful. ive had a couple of days where it niggled since i started wearing new runners about 2weeks ago, but just ran through it with no issues. asics same as old ones, but today got unbearable. its fine again now, so im thinking its impact related rather than muscle/tendon. likely the new trainers have a different support in sole and changing how my foot is landing? i only have the 200km jan challenge left to finish, but ive another 96km to do in 12 days... i dunno will the knee survive that. forecast is misery for tonorrow so having a break. decision time then... abandon the 200km and try the bike for a while, or press on and risk damage... i think i may be checking the tyre pressures tomorrow and greasing the cassettes..

Radio issue
ii4c on my old mk1 octy if there wasnt a "clink" pulling out the key so that the keyhole cover clicked shut the radio would occasionally stay on. as if the car thinks the key is still in until that covers drops. a shot of contact cleaner and jiggle solved the sticky cover and solved the radio. it may be the same?

Skoda octavia vrs 1.8t
hi, and welcome to briskoda. i presume you mean - how many bhp can the standard rods and pistons take in the 1.8T engine? edit - translation : koľko koní znesú prúty i cant give a definitive answer, but i believe if you want more than 300bhp, the engine internals need to be getting looked at

Octavia 2006 losing water.....head gasket?
id wager the waterpump is leaking. or you have had a massive airlock after the replacement stat. but if its constant.. check the pump first. (esp if the same garage that did the belt is saying its the headgasket) get a genuine bosch temp sensor for the needle flutter. vag engines dont like pattern sensors and it start fluttering again soon.

not sure yet tbh... time will tell, though he does need the activity to burn through the energy he apparently absorbs through photosynthesis.. hopefully we will be able to rejoin a pool soon after lock down and get him back in the water too. he loves swimming, but havnt been able to go in a year! (between the arrival of his brother, mother being unwell, then the lock downs...)

im impressed... he managed about 3.5km of the 5.15km we did. about 1.5km he didnt manage i piggy backed him 🥵 hes only around 19kg, but jogging with that bouncing around is heavy going! any way, he enjoyed himself, managed to do a bit of it at my regular pace, but mostly was at his pace, which was alright for a nearly 6yr old

Coolant Leakage Issue
topup the coolant only to the max line on the expansion bottle. monitor it for a while. if you overfill it, it will over pressurize the system when it heats up and expands. the pressure increase effectively lowers the boiling point, so youll then lose even more.

Water ingress in footwell
he said the mechanic already replaced the membrane on the back door, thats why i said check the front
-
Water ingress in footwell
there are rear sun roof drains, but also, check the front door for water getting in. both via door seal and under the door card. the shape of the floor pan pushes water that gets in the front into the back.

If money was no object ..... ?
i think a full fat Overfinch may find it way onto my soon to be extended driveway. along with an M5 touring and an exige (sunday play thing) and a fully restored and tuned up 'stang - shelby gt350 to be exact and also an old restored 50s yank truck not picky on which really, just think they were really well shaped and proportioned.

Bluetooth activation
hi, the first thing you need is the bluetooth kit which is located under the driver seat. then a suitable head unit then it needs to be coded in through vcds. @Rustynuts is pretty handy with the detail on headunits etc, maybe able to offer better help than me

its surely the ecu mileage... given talking to the ecu is the whole point of the obd2 interface

Interference engine or not ?
i always have a smile to myself when i see a mk1 octy still on the road, esp if its been kept looking pretty well. as i know what it can do and what its probably been through they are getting rarer and rarer mostly due to easily fixable NCT (MOT) failures.

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
i like my running. i like getting out and the feeling of accomplishing something. i dislike getting up really early in the morning to do it. i hate getting up after a broken nights sleep courtesy of what i believe is an evolutionary oversight - the growing of teeth. anyway, i dragged my sleep deprived head out of bed and went running. went the tow path again, but added on a bit at the start to bring it up to a 10k. ive also noticed im getting pains in my knees since i swapped to my new asics trainers... not good, hope its just while they soften in.

Mk1 vrs wishbone question please help
im gonna say no, as the overall front suuspension on diesels is completely different to the vrs. eg droplinks are only about 4inches long on the diesel compared about a foot on the vrs
-
Interference engine or not ?
imperial or US gallons? i paid €1.189/litre yesterday for a tank of diesel, about $6.53 / imp gallon going by xe.com just now...

Rear fog light
@DeanVRS20VT might delete one of the posts, to help confusion.. assuming you arent accidentally pulling out the switch to turn them on with regular lights.. check the wiring to the light clusters, in particular under the cd changer's home as this are can get wet if the windscreen washer hose separates and cause electrrical gremlins
