EV Charging Costs
@SurreyJohn The terms, slow and fast were as we use them not as EV terms used them. 2.3 or 7 (6.7) kW charging is SLOW but called FAST, and that can include 11 kW AC and even 22 kW. RAPID might just be 43 AC / 50 kW, not that Rapid unless you have a small battery. 50 kW plus to 80 / 100 kW might be called Ultra Rapid, and includes 125 kW plus

the truth about electric cars
I only know about insurance quotes for me and nearest and dearest and EV,s are no more expensive, and high performance ones are around 1/3 lower to insure than an ICE model, same prices, less or the same performance. I am checking on cars being considered for purchase. PS Cars parked on streets are not always more expensive than parked on private drives, plugged in or not. Many premium / high value cars have theft or damage while parked on private ground. Location location location. Dodgy places, not always social housing schemes.

the truth about electric cars
These prices are really amazing. There are even 2025 8 seater Stellantis BEV,s with under £20,000 asking prices, and not all Ex VAT.

No driving modes
Welcome. A car in another country, Romania. But i had to look at the profile to see that.

Have you tried any EV,s yet?

the truth about electric cars
Location location location dude . Personal circumstances. Pure dead unlucky regarding claims, even not at fault, and age / occupation. WTF with ICE 6,000 miles BEV 20,000 ? No brainer for those with Cheap Charging, Home / Work etc, and needing a reliable car under £14,000 Just ordinary people that like this sort of thing. Not sure if the petrol ones are having engine issues.

the truth about electric cars
I have a photographic memory, maybe autistic, bi-polar, adha or just interested in cars. The reason i bother looking at what others drive locally is. You see what cars might sit for weeks or months, no rusty discs, no flat batteries, no cars needing recovered or vice versa. But then i have been into cars since a child, trained as a motor engineer, worked as a car sprayer and bought and sold cars. I tend to ignore the crap that comes from 'Ordinary people' who often just drive the things. Some of the cars with the worst reputation can be true peaches. Best of all often cheap because people without a clue dis them. Or motoring journalists do. Jerky Automatics etc. Or best car in the world, yet the public hardly buy any. In the UK that is. Possibly the ones with more bling than practicality. Or amazing handling and performance, tail out GT86 / BRZ, skinnier tyres and poor rear wheel drive grip. Or FWD cars with lots of Torque Steer. Losing grip and getting it back with a ELD / Torque vectoring maybe. Sh!te in the wet or cold and as far a UK 60 MPH speed limits, feel sporty, actually pretty damn poor engineering. Skoda Yeti a design classic loved by motoring journalists and some owners, bought by few, just like the Roomster. Seldom people put their money where their mouthing off goes.

"PerfektBlue" remote BlueTooth attack
It is a huge worry for Palestinians driving VW,s, or maybe Chinese people in the UK. 'They are watching you and can see you.!'

Race Chip for Octavia MK4.5
You are not going to be removing it maybe if you require roadside assistance / recovery. Or the vehicle is in an accident. Grown up people like adults that have cars should do what they want and if it goes t!ts up pay up and do not expect warranties they void to cover them. & test drive vehicles before buying them. Just my personal & honest opinion.

"PerfektBlue" remote BlueTooth attack
Maybe worry for those with more modern VW Group vehicles / Skoda are OTA updates. If anything is liable to brick your vehicle it is these.

the truth about electric cars
Ordinary people should read owners manuals. Especially if not that mechanically minded. Take car sales peoples guff with a pinch of salt. But with career car sales people look what their family have or buy with their own money. What they drive.. if only everything like the car in front was as reliable as a Toyota. The biggest car manufacturer in the world. Them VW introduced defeat devices. Then Toyota was the bigger again in 2016.. terrible air bags though. But at least they do recalls and try to get cars in for them..

the truth about electric cars
Yes i think about much. Watch what neighbours have as cars. And have driven quite a few and consider buying various. Especially when cheap like 5 year old Yaris always have been..
-
the truth about electric cars
I just read the Toyota advice on putting the car in Ready Mode.. I wonder if the Toyota Dealers in the UK need big signs in showrooms saying 'These vehicles might not suit ORDINARY people who live ordinary lives.. they can be exactly like a Skoda Fabis that are not suitable to park in long stay car parks if you take holidays for a couple of weeks.

the truth about electric cars
There are many thousand around the UK with Toyota Yaris Hybrids and ones 10 years old that have no issues leaving then for weeks undriven. They were one of the first cars of the type, the most common on the roads. Have they really started producing ones that are not as good as they were back in 2010-2015? PS. Dealers or car salespeople really do talk loads of guff. Is there really an issue regarding the car being even parked for a month?

Performance chip
There is not any difference in the VED because the car is not getting any new certification from the Testing done for Skoda. The Warranty T&C,s are clear enough about non Factory Hardware or Software. The Tuning box / chip or remap should be declared to have valid insurance, simples as that.

the truth about electric cars
The manufacturers are listening are they not. Stopping building the factories, stopping building components and building EV.s. Giving up on them. They are going back to building diesel cars because arm chair experts think they should. The government agree with this obviously. Drill baby drill!

the truth about electric cars
Surely an issue for those buying new or used EV,s or electrified vehicles as keepers, and those leasing / renting new and handing back could really not care less about 5-15 years on. There are those that have owned EV,s now for a few years and even still have them and have bought another or 2. It is really unreal how people bother about what others have and they are not going to be having to drive or buy if they do not want to. Like older drivers, or drivers that are not buying new cars anytime in the next decade.

the truth about electric cars
^^^ "ordinary people." We really are talking lots of tripe now to prove some point or another. Lets talk washing machine and driers, microwaves, computers, mobile / smart phones and 'Jarvis Cocker'. Common people / Ordinary people. Somebody must know the scrappage numbers of EV,s from failures other than accidental damage ones. Drivetrain / component failures, or maybe they are just assuming that there are however many. Most people if we are talking a majority can not fix an ICE vehicle regardless of the age / generation on them.

7 speed dsg - hard shifting and lugging
Yes there are drain plugs. They changed the oil in over 5 million DSG,s with the Global Recall that was just a Service Recall in Europe. You can watch Youtube vids on doing the oil changes, just be aware there is not a oil filter to change as some show. This debate came from a member who was getting advice, then was unable to get anyone to the the work. There are members here that posted pics of the oil they changed, & correct quantities. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/532929-super-717

Kamiq Start Stop Issues
As can be seen in the Fabia Mk3 section and likely in others there were members with Stop / Start issues, battery issues and hey hoe what did dealerships do while they supposedly Contact the Factory, or scratch their arses, they send out cars with the Stop / Start disabled. But these are Factory Trained Technicians, Master Techs, techs, fitters or maybe apprentices. The biggest car manufacturer or they were do turn out vehicles with some real cut price components, or components and systems that were or are about WLTP certification.

Potential EV virgin
@Aspman What is the Countryman that is getting moved on? I was going to Aberdeen to look at a PHEV one and noticed what you put in another thread.

Race Chip for Octavia MK4.5
@benwong89 What did your warranty say. Did non factory approved hardware or software get a mention. If you are prepared to take the chance then just do that and keep your fingers crossed that you have no major engine/ drive train issues. This is what it says for the UK.

Race Chip for Octavia MK4.5
@avi4tor A 1.5 TSI ACT might be, but the OP is in Singapore and does not post that they have one of those.
