the truth about electric cars
Quentin Wilson was on the BBC talking EV,s and cheapness, and said as usual 2 pence a mile with an EV. Yes with a 7 pence a kWh charge that is. The Social Divide. Heidi Alexander MP is coming on 'BBC1 Sunday with Laura Kuensberg. Lets see / hear what figures she comes away with and maybe if she is driven around in an EV and has one as a family car. ....................... 13 years ago he was on about 100 miles for £1. Well now that is £2 for 100, for those not paying 60 pence or more a kWh, or even 30 pence. http://bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-19661199 The 'Claim' is correct for those that 'could or can charge' for Much Cheapness. ............. 'Across the country she said'. Maybe that is England then. She has not an EV, but never said if the Government Car she is driven in is an EV. Later this week for the announcement.

the truth about electric cars
Real world from a member. Charging an EV. The term FAST is usually, 7 kw chargers, (& 11 kW.) so really SLOW, (11 AC not quite so SLOW but not FAST. RAPID is 50 kW chargers so FAST not that fast, then you have ULTRA FAST, or ULTRA RAPID. Something that Car Salespeople seldom can explain. That is just how the terms were and evolved. So if you can only public charge & are paying 60 pence a kWh or more so 10 kWh costs £6.00 to go 36-40 miles just get a Petrol or Diesel if a private owner paying for your fuel. Edinburgh is now getting better charging provision but charging Ultra Rapid can be expensive, as can just RAPID charging at 50 kW because the Council for the City made it so. Many passengers can not be bothered with all the crap and messing about even though it looks simple and can be. They just want to get where they are going..

the truth about electric cars
Maybe as done now the base fuels will still arrive by ship to the various sea ports and depots. Just more than before and at those ones owned by Royal Dutch Shell and Greenery. As it is Grangemouth as an Oil Refinery Closed but as a Fuel Depot it is still operating and fuel is being delivered from there even though they are no longer operating a Cracking Plant. @lol-lol not read that article yet but how much of the Road and Transport fuels in the UK was from refining in the UK? Tankers of Fuel from around the world not just from refineries in Europe & not just oil are held at sea ready for delivery into UK depots, as 'the price is right'. Come on in, like the tide. 3 years ago, over capacity production for the Home Market. So exporting surpluses. But if there is to be Energy Security in the UK then refining and the production of fuels should be a priority for the Government.

No crank issue. 2015 mk3 estate 1.2 tsi dsg auto petrol.
It very much sounds like no cranking because the switch is an issue and the shifter is not properly in P or N. Connection not right. Throwing parts at the car like it is a game of bingo is not financially Simply Clever.

Oil light - Am I blind?
No Yellow Oil can low oil, or Red Oil can, low oil pressure light / symbols come up on start up and the Dash light check. Maybe some member with the same car as users can go turn on their ignition and start their car. Yes a 2016 not a 2014. and not showing for the service light, just to show the ignition on. Then there is needle sweep or no needle sweep. But there is no OIL CAN SYMBOL. You have to trust if the oil is low, or the pressure low the light or the message works.

the truth about electric cars
Hybrids & PHEV,s are very complicated and might be the worst of both worlds. VW Group can not even sort out pure ICE Vehicles and batteries let alone electrified ones before signing them and taking money for them. As for BEV,s and the very important part for many which is charging & various chargers, they really are messing up. Porsche surely must have this one all sorted these out before they sell them to customers. Arrive home, at work, at public chargers or anyplace and plug in and charging starts. Tap a card or whatever and no Phone Apps, or Mobile Reception / Wi-Fi required.

the truth about electric cars
I do not think anyone is falling into the trap of mixing up cars that do not get petrol or diesel or LPG put into a tank with ones that require electricity into the battery cells. So many recalls go on with ICE and BEV,s & Electrified vehicles. Across so many manufacturers. Many never being checked.

Allseason tires for Superb facelift 2.0 tdi
@ZJZ I look at them all, & then I take it all with a pinch of salt, i know where i drive, what i drive & how i drive and it is a case of what works for me & not someone else's ideas. 50 years of driving over the various winters and back to the days of fitting Winter Remoulds. The guy in the video reviews says he is in the UK and not much snow. That is because he is in the South and maybe does not cross the roads i do whatever the season, weather etc. The Winter roads just as the Summer, Spring, Autumn are cambered & in Winter maybe not treated but more often than not are as because if the Council do not clear snow then farmers make sure they are open near them. Driving frozen and snow covered horizontal lakes are not something i do.

My 2023 MINI Cooper S Level 3 Electric leased from Motability which will be with me for 3 years & now a 2021 MG5 as a dog wagon.
My MINI and the BMW are identical seating positions pedals and comfort. I get out of them just the same after 2 hours. Prefer then getting back in the MINI. Neither hurt my back. Electric seats in BMW, but I never adjust once set. Movable bolsters need at widest for me anyway.

Fantastic to get my car back, valeted and it seems as though no settiing changed. Going damn well with it's heavy accelerator. Had to take a diversion going in through a village with about a dozen speed bumps and very bad roads and was wishing I had taken the dual carriageway. Now Larry and am appreciating the car I have now. The dog is happier as well. 75 miles range when I collected it but AC on at max. 25 miles later running AC normal it is at 80 miles range.

Allseason tires for Superb facelift 2.0 tdi
There are a few good Reviews on wheel / tyre size differences by the reviewer in the linked CC3 Sport Vid. But then during Covid Lockdown and Scottish Ski Centres closed he took a VW Golf up to try the All Seasons. Issue was if he looked there was no snow on the roads to the 3 Ski Centre roads in the Grampians. If he had used the Web Cameras before leaving England he would have known that. & if the centres are open and the Snow Gates and the roads open they are ploughed & Gritted anyway. Any white top has all shorts driving on that. Open to the public. Gritted & Salted.

Allseason tires for Superb facelift 2.0 tdi
@ZJZ Is that reviews by people with the same car and the same tyre size / width? Very much a location location location thing and as for Aquaplaning and wider tyres, there are people never slow down, and people that use different tyre pressures. All Seasons are generally good in the wet and very wet, and directional and V tread ones got better over the years and by generation of tyres. The Biggest Manufactures and the other Companies they own really do flog pretty good tyres. Just some of the Sh!te the Car Manufacturers fit as OEM can be an issue... Wet, Dry, Hot, Cold, all about the Efficiency / miles / km, and not , grip, traction, steering, braking so safety.

2025 Skoda Kodiaq 1.5 e-tec petrol - What belt is it?
Welcome to the forum. ? Where are you reading conflicting info from? There are no Wet Welts used with TSI.s It is a Dry Cam Belt and it might be 2035 / 150,000 plus miles before the Belt Gets changed. Life fit belt, the life of the engine, so sadly maybe a failure at 10 years will be terminal. Ask the Supplying Dealers Service Desk to go check what your Recommended Service & Maintenance, schedule, guidelines or advice are from Skoda / VW. Ask the Sales person to go get the info, in writing. If getting one and keeping 5 years or more extend the Warranty before it is First Registered.

@Graham Butcher I have driven lots of BEV,s now but this MINI E is very very different, unique even from a New MINI SE from China. I would say it is pretty likely to be dangerous with some drivers. Mostly they are not just quite as keep to move with a slight touch of the accelerator in their default mode. I do not like the D/B or N selector either. But i do like shifters, not the short of stubbies you get now, or buttons or switches. Seat down and fully back and steering wheel down and out and my driving position i expect to select Drive, Reverse / N, e-Brake as i sit and using my left hand and not to lean forward to reach these. (No i am not a Short Hand / Arm typist.) Old model Level 3 is luxury in comparison. Actually there is no comparison to material that came off an animal for the seating and steering wheel. An arm rest with padding & that can be swung out of the way is just common sense. Even if the wireless charger inside only suited small phones. I-drive controller and selection buttons right at the position your hand can get to while driving and looking straight ahead and around without leaning forward away from the seat back.

@lol0000 It was when i was at the local dealer that the salesman said it was an Exclusive i was in. I did not want to change the setting that 'Kim' has on the car but her / his default is 22*o C heating. So not max AC and not fast fan and low is OK in 24*oC plus heat just now. Windows a bit down. Just driving in Core and default Reggen which seems hit or miss if one pedal or coasts. But this accelerator is like an on off switch, very jumpy trying just to easy about at an average 12 mph in the 30 limit. When i touch the brake pedal it is very long and soft. (I never touch my brake pedal usually except for a full stop.) Sitting and putting the e-brake on then needs the way i have received the car the need to then foot on brake and switch to D / B to move. Not seemless like on my MINI which i foot on brake pedal or if on the flat just Switch on e-Brake and then moving off just use the accelerator. If i do not buy a MINI SE or non Cooper S / JCW 2022 / 23 car i will be selling the Alloys & Maxxis tyres 195/60 R 16. No wear on them. I might take them off the car before this winter and put back on the Cars own 17" alloys and the Vredstein All seasons as they were only used for a few hundred miles. The Maxxis AP3,s are damn good and a very good price. I should have specced the wheels with the TPMS,s when i bought them i think it was only £155 option with My Tyres. These Alloys are very good & i almost went for 17" ones but glad i did not.

Oo Oo Oo Oo is the noise as I come down the 20 mph high street and the car is doing 21 mph. Then Oo Oo Oo is me as I come over the 3 speed bumps at less than 10 mph getting into the park. The suspension is rock hard, and obviously the hatch is not right closed. Get feed up getting out to slam it again. After all reaching over a fixed arm rest to get the seat belt plugged in is a p|$$ take. I really have not disliked a car as much as this piece of crap since to the first Smart for two,s.

WTF WOW EV
The proper Hot Hatch EV,s are starting to come from Stellantis. Not long until they are cheap used cars with 1 or 2 more previous keepers. Ex Demonstrators.

WTF WOW EV
Yet another one that will be interesting to see when here as a right hand drive and just how right handed drivers get on with the big screen in the middle. There really are some mental EV,s being built now. The time of the tech to restrict their max speed on UK roads must be coming. He needs to move his seat closer as even leaning forward parked up his short arms and fingers are stretching. Then there will be the oldies issue of needing LARGE Print choices to see those lit up symbols. Cataracts and Driving glasses. Pure dead epic it will be to drive at maybe 75 mph on the UK roads. Not! Youngsters brought up on gaming, or just old foggies. 291 miles, divided by 84 kWh, that is not even getting 3.5 miles to the kWh, and that must be from a WLTP regime figure.

@lol-lol The Over Speed limit warning is a funny little noise. I thought it was the Transit Blocks making a croaking noise.

karoq - and service schedule on MySkoda app
@Rory Hyundai / KIA as bad as Vauxhall and BMW / MINI, treating an EV as though a Hybrid / PHEV, ICE model, not knowing that it is 2 years before a Brake Fluid change and pollen filter and look see. They might even offer a special on a Fuel Treatment when the BEV is booked in for a Service.

2010 Yeti 2.0 TDI 4x4 (DFHC) – Jerking when accelerating slowly, especially uphill or in moist weather
@Yetisti The Haldex Service Schedule is 3 years / 30,000 miles, and people even have issues with gunked up pumps / filters before that. Then corrosion of the controllers. Haldex out of order. It needs serviced anyway, and maybe the mechanic can diagnose the issue if it is the engine.

I will see what a 1.5 petrol 5 door is like for comfort rather than a 2.0 Cooper S 3 or 5 door. JCW,s are just too like the new Electric. Hard. I like the clocks as they were pre Heads up. Comfort and finish is perfect.

Hopefully my car is ready for tonight. This one does have totally amazing cooling /AC. It does show a 14 miles guesstimate of drop in range when on at full. Only 10 drop at Mid AC. Then there is range extending mode. They need to check that the Transport Blocks have been removed. Suspension is non existent. Tyres are not over inflated . Boot needs adjusted. Bloody uncomfortable car. That piece of webbing at bottom of the steering wheel is a nonsense IMO. And the cubby box and as for the armrest. Fisher Price... There is more foot 👣 / pedal space than my car and easier in and out. Seat base and back just so damn hard. Lots of adjustability. But not if you want to pump seat up or down with door closed, like while stopped at the lights...
