@MFK BUMP. This might have been a good place to ask about the misfires now. I asked in the recent thread what you have here in this thread, ? How many miles has the car done in the past 2 years?- Octavia 1.2Tsi Cylinder 2 misfire
Best not assume anything. eg coils, leads, and what plugs are fitted, yes long life, but that is not always 65,000 miles like some say, not even 40,000 sometimes. ? How many miles on the car / engine? A mechanic that can be hands on with the car is going to be more use maybe than anyone here guessing, or maybe even a main dealer tech / fitter. EDIT. Relevant in as far as info on past issues. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/496926-octavia-12-tsi-2011-petrol-camshaft-sensor- Servicing suggestions
There are some real comedians in the motor trade. If VW Engineers & Software engineers were as good as some seem to think they are then what a wonderful place it would be. Who were these 'magicians' that serviced the DSG?- VRS mk2 engine management light coming on
Oil related fixes would have been in the first 3 years most likely, and if a Skoda /VW / Dealers car no guarantee of any record of that, or even of a replacement engine in many cases. All that matters is the past few years not over a decade or so ago. Engines were rebuilt, 2010/11, then sort units, then base units. Plenty good 2010-2012 CAVE engines about from the factory, or from sorted out under warranty or after with extended warranty.- VRS mk2 engine management light coming on
It need not be anything major. A 2011 car might have had the breather mod done, and the software update. Maybe not if never an oil user, and if not maybe never needed the Oil Spray Jets done. (Squirters'.) It might have had the Water pump and belts replaced, but maybe not. Might now need spark plugs, maybe a coil or coils. It all depends on what it has had and when. Fault codes need read, and any issues diagnosed, and by someone that knows the engines. No guarantee that will be a tech at a main dealership. ? Where in the UK are you so that maybe someone can direct you to someplace that gives a damn? PS When / eventually, you do go to move it on, then BRISKODA For SALES is a good place to try.- diamond cut alloy corrosion
It is not removed by most unless wheels stripped back to alloy so all the lacquer / coating is removed. Often it is just a case of 'out of sight out of mind'.- £72 to rotate wheels at annual service!
@MegawattWelcome. It is not 5 minutes work. You do it if you can in 20 minutes. Bolt caps off, bolts loose, wheels off, changed position, bolts back on, checked for correct tightness, bolt covers on. Moaning customer when the security bold is mashed because the last person over tightened them... But if the wheels are coming off anyway then it is not done twice. That £72 has 20% VAT. Hourly rate can be £115 including VAT or more, especially right down in the wealthy south. It is nice when places do it for a tenner. Where i go and get stuff like that done free i still give £20 for the tea money, and if they need to put it through the books they get what they need to charge. But then when i charge for my hourly rate for work i am not cheap. When a nod and a wink to a blind person from HMRC that is different. ? Is that what your cars manufacturers guidelines, recommendation or specification shows now, Brake Fluid change first @ 2 years. (Like the old days 15 years ago.) Or were they taking the Michael and treating you like a Golden Goose? ? Did it get an Oil & Inspection Service & a Pollen filter replaced & the Brake Fluid change for the £260? Did it get a road test and an inspection and report and a Body Inspection report for the Paint Warranty and the 12 year corrosion warranty and did you get a paper copy? At the Annual Oil & Filter & Inspection Service, 1 to 2 years they might not take the wheels off, but they should at 3 years @ the Extended Scope and then each 2 years. Some places take wheels off anyway, like maybe an Arnold Clark Dealership to send the video showing you how bad the discs and pads are, even when they are not.- Nissan Leaf 24 kWh 1000 km challenge
Someplace this week i read about the new EU legislation on chargers and the future. Probably struggled to read the whole article because of totally sh!te mobile phone reception at the charger station. ? Is this just a problem / issue in Scotland. Chargers that can not communicate via sim and drivers un-able to get Apps to work or get good enough reception to get through to anybody at CPS, BP or others. Infrastructure is crap basically and obviously politicians and others seem totally oblivious of the issues. They should all have to travel by EV if going by road and with a vehicle costing below £36,000. European Parliament. So EU, because the UK is in 'Europe', just not the EU. http://electrek.co/2023/07/11/europe-passes-two-big-laws-to-make-ev-charging-a-whole-lot-better UK. http://transportandenergy.com/2023/07/11/public-charge-point-regulations-set-out-future-of-ev-charging The UK has a problem. TESLA driving Grant Shapps MP / Secretary of state for Energy etc etc etc, Solar from space mirrors....- Nissan Leaf 24 kWh 1000 km challenge
It is a long time since in Scotland even driving middle of the nights I could do 621 miles in under 9 hours in any 4 wheel vehicle. There are average speed cameras about on 70, 60, 40, 30 and even 20 mph roads. Speed camera vans anytime and Police officers about. I regularly did 450 miles a night and that was 6 hours with a few stops of just minutes. In the Corsa electric that required starting fully charged then 2 or 3 stops of maybe 40 minutes each. Also required luck getting on Rapid charger, it working, charging at the speed it should. So 450 miles taking near 9 hours, 8 if all went smoothly.- New or improved hubs announced, Government EV Loans in Scotland and free & no longer free public charging places..
There was an issue this morning with CPS Website down. also account issues. That will be just a 2 year anniversary reminder of SWARCO taking over, even though they had the contract with the last contractor to run things. (BP) Just a reminder how they talk it all up while still performing very very badly and being paid lots to do so. That is maybe a scandal for the future / accounts. http://chargeplacescotland.org/guidance/charge-point-faults-who-does-what Maybe good bye eventually to a load of bad rubbish as far as it goes with Charge Place Scotland & SWARCO. That does not mean things will get better, but there is hope & as it is the cost of charging is going up for EV drivers and public charging. It is a crime the millions that the Scottish Government have allowed to go to the chosen few from the public purse of many. That is true of many modes of transport in Scotland though. http://autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/chargeplace-scotland-be-brought-under-private-ownership http://nationalworld.com/lifestyle/cars/is-chargeplace-scotland-being-scrapped-charging-network-set-to-be-broken-up-in-hunt-for-private-funding-4154476- Nissan Leaf 24 kWh 1000 km challenge
Me. Skipping through it while sitting charging an EV. 30 pack of crisps in boot and 24 pack of diet coke & ticktacs & pan drops in the car & they last a few weeks, or a a few thousand miles, £2,20, £7.50, £2. and i very seldom buying any food at charging stations (because there are no shops at cheap charging other than maybe supermarkets or if near a high street / town centre in Scotland, or vending machines at a park and ride in ticket offices / toilets happen to be open, which is rare late night, during the night, and much of the time.) and it is a case of going to hide behind a tree and many charger locations to get a pee. 600 miles when you can get 100 miles or more from a charge might mean 5 charges if you start off with a full charge, then a 6th to charge up again. Average 50 mph, and 5 charges of 60 minutes or less. 17 hours. Maybe @ 35 pence a kwh & 3.5 miles a kWh £60. 600 miles @ 42 mpg average & 142 pence a litre cost me £92. 65 litres / 14.3 gallons approx. It is nice to get a move on in an ICE vehicle and just fill up, but i miss the time sitting charging and the banter, and the 5 hours or less charging can mean i have £30 still in my pocket. More if i drive a more efficient ICE or drive more efficiently, but then if i drive a more efficient EV that can cost less. It has cost me less because i did lots of charging free and at less than 35 pence kWh. (those days have gone.) 50 pence - 80 pence per kWh makes the EV driving damn expensive though and does not actually mean you get a faster charge time / more powerful chargers.- IV - Non Skoda class 2 charging lead being blamed
PHEV,s & EV,s using a type 2 AC charging cable should no need to be plugged into any particular type of 3.6 or 7 kW AC charger to get a charge. @Brockysuperb What are you doing, or unable to do, is it home charging and your charger, Or are you using a Type 2 to 3 pin charger, or a type 2 to type 2 and plugging into AC public chargers? ie PodPoint or others.- The 'All In', extended warranty plan.
Do the T&CS say 'Servicing to manufacturers guidelines, recommendations, specification'. or such? Great if the Servicing & Maintenance guidelines, recommendations, schedule / specifications are clearly set out by the manufacturers. The posts and threads last week on the Cam Belt replacement period in Non dust rich countries' such as the UK were in sections on here last week. Getting that confirmed in writing from the Manufacturer or Importer in the UK which will be Skoda, or their franchised / authorised dealers / repairers and you are sorted.- New or improved hubs announced, Government EV Loans in Scotland and free & no longer free public charging places..

- The Insanity of The British Driving Licence?
Many in the UK lost 'Motor Cycle' rights having passed their test when the DVLA Swansea had a fire a couple of decades back, and HGV licences were coc-cked up. My Mum liked to remind my Dad that he had not ever passed a driving test, unlike her. Wartime it was not necessary. They were in prescribed work and my Dads family were Carters & Hauliers and they all drove lorries, busses etc. Found my mums licence just this week. (Change of address from Banffshire to Angus.)- Low Tyre Pressure After Wheel Change
It does not matter if the tyre is a slightly different size / pressure, or 2 on an axle are not the same. Like when a spare might be fitted. That is why you are RESETTING the TPMS. So that it registers the setting. Circumference and then notices a difference from the setting. So car stopped, RESET, and then after a while of driving it should be logged / registered. ........... The bigger cars, Superb / Kodiaq might well disable the ACC / CC or other features when there is a very odd one out size, but should not give a 'TPMS' warning. There are threads where people did have issues with the very wrong size spare some Superb with Haldex got as Space Savers and the ABS / TC nipping the brakes and causing a hazard as people drove too far, and maybe too fast with too small a tyre. That is a different kettle of worms, or can of fish.- The Insanity of The British Driving Licence?
A mandatory retest in the UK after 30 years maximum from your last test passed and an extended test is what is needed then the next one 15 years later. Borderline passes of a restest should limit the power / weight of vehicle you can drive, and no carrying other middle age plus passengers, or night time driving.- Different size tyres on front for 2000 miles possible drivetrain damage?
@MarkyDWas that different sized tyres on the front and at the driver / passenger side. A different size front and rear is not a MOT fail in the UK. Otherwise there would be lots of BMW, Porsche, Audi and many others failing. Bigger on the front not an issue either, anymore than on the rear.- Anti siphon system on Karoq MY23
@Ari19welcome. Are you certain that your car has a GPF (OPF) in Australia? For some reason in the UK where it is petrol we buy they are Gasoline Particulate Filters. Edit. Sorry I see your link now. So do you have a 1.4 TSI with or without ACT, and has it an 8:speed auto, not a DSG?- Service
As it has been for years the VW group can not decide what 15,000 km should be on the different brands when showing as miles with fixed services in the UK. It can be 9,300 or 9,400, 9,600 even or just show those on the car but 10,000 miles sounds ok at the dealerships or on websites.- New global engine maker to have headquarters in UK.
No idea how many jobs that will be in the UK as it is just the headquarters. There must be some benefit to them in this. No mention about manufacturing in the UK in this from the BBC. http://bbc.co.uk/news/business-66172158- Oil Filter getting dirty/coolent leak
Are you filling the Coolant to MAX and then it is going down to below MIN & then you fill to MAX again. The correct level can be between MAX & MIN, but if it is going down all the time to MIN or below then that does need adressed. I know nothing about 1.6 TDI,s and EGR,s or the likes and leaks. Is this a taxi with all these miles, and have you done the miles? Does the car do lots of Regens. Is it lots of short journeys, or sitting ticking over, or longer trips with the engine always up to heat? Someone will be along that knows about 1.6 TDI,s, and the issue you have.- Oil Filter getting dirty/coolent leak
Welcome. Best say what petrol or diesel engine you have, what size of TSI or TDI? How many miles has it done? - Octavia 1.2 TSi 2011 Petrol Camshaft Sensor
