Self Driving Cars
Grant Shapps MP has made every attempt to make the UK roads safer or to fly kites and spend time and money looking into things and funding technology research. People were having to use cars & bikes and roads more during Covid to avoid public transport and now during industrial actions. He has allowed people to tow trailers caravans without any training, people are driving without passing driving tests because they could not get tests. He has introduced pilot schemes for e-Scooters and want them legalised. He wants people to be able to drive HGV's without training or tests. He wants cyclists to have registration plates and insurance while many vehicle drivers have no licences, insurance or MOT's on vehicles. What is the worst that can happen?

Self Driving Cars
Looking forward to seeing the self-driving cars, vans, busses etc on the roads and them seeing me. Obviously the first to use these should be Politicians / MP's/ Government Ministers who should only be travelling this way when Tax Payers are covering their travel costs. http://www.gov.uk/government/news/self-driving-revolution-to-boost-economy-and-improve-road-safety

Skoda Yeti 118TSI 2013 engine rattle when warm.
@aussieyetifanThat is a lot of oil and filter changes when doing 24,000 km a year. Have you been using VW502 00 so 5w 40 FS or stuck with using the recommended VW504 00 / 507 00 so long life oil?

Leon vs Octavia comparison
Different suspensions /rear with different trims / engines, wheel sizes / brakes etc so Sportier' will depend on engine and suspension more than if a Leon or Octavia.

Approaching 3 years of ownership, the good the bad and the ugly!
Those were certainly brakes that needed servicing long before they got to needing the discs and pads replaced. The Haldex Service is about £85 at a Main Dealers but to do it correctly you might have to ask if the pump is being cleaned and if they are going to it might be over £100. ? @AndyGrob73 Were you never made aware at the Services that the Haldex servicing was due @ 3 years or 30,000 miles?

Technology has moved on, there is now Synthetic Oil Treatment & even better Advance Snake Oil for new or worn out engines if you can not find any Slick 50. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/stp-veramic-oil-tratement.337945

Hybrid versus petrol and diesel: a comparison of real-life fuel consumption
As to the cost of checking your mpg. It costs nothing if you are going on a trip anyway. If the cars estimater is not enough it does show how many miles it goes, or a smart watch or phone does and you know from buying fuel how much is needed. If you offer to take someone 200 miles or 240 you know 1 gallon will not take you there it will be 4 or 5 gallons required. Maybe 6 gallons in a plug in hybrid. None of it is rocket science. If you can go 30 miles and use no liquid fuel then good.

Hybrid versus petrol and diesel: a comparison of real-life fuel consumption
Now that Toyota have there latest hybrids out we will see if there is that much fuel efficiency improvement as time has moved on or not. What lots of the cars need is to be smaller & also lighter. Not just manipulated to pass WLTP / RDE2 to suit the EU / UK. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/506215-thought-on-a-switch-to-hybrid http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/458155-many-plug-in-hybrids-never-getting-plugged-in Germany is obviously not the UK or rest of the world but there are similarities where Business Users were incentified to het PHEV's even if not plugging in, as it helps the Manufacturers Average C02 figures of vehicles first registered even if in the real world usage they are using more fuel than an ICE vehicle.

Sadly it could be the timing chain / tensioner again. See post from @Pacific_Blue http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/266114-18tsi-and-20tsi-engine-failures/page/75 8th August 2022. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/497227-new-to-us-superb-fixing-niggles

Roof bar / protecting paintwork on a hatchback
Welcome. Well worth the extra protection because you will be so annoyed when you remove the bars and there is damage. The extra protection will not make things any worse or cause more than can happen.

Approaching 3 years of ownership, the good the bad and the ugly!
Do the discs and pads actually need replacing or is that just them saying they do? The car was on the 18,000- 20,000 mile servicing, it left the factory on Variable /Flexible servicing, it was changed to fixed on purpose at the PDI. PS @30,000 miles /3 years the Haldex is due a Service.

Anything I can do to improve the DSG on an 18 plate VRS?
The cars 7 years old and a bit newer do not have GPS to tell them what is about to be demanded of them and they were engineered to give lower emissions when they can. There are Euro 6 models since 2015 that some might think are better or worse. Just wait until Euro 7 ones are out and see just how little choice the drivers have. Nice that now you can drop a gear or 2 and get a shift on and without electrification. The clutch packs will be just fine with the DSG.

Hybrid versus petrol and diesel: a comparison of real-life fuel consumption
@Gerrycan Checking if these cars can average 70 mpg is easy when the battery is charged up just once. You charge the battery to full and then see if for 10 gallons / 45.5 litres the car will go 700 miles. Or even 350 miles on just 23 litres on a brim to brim check. Petrol Hybrid Toyota or Hyundai / KIa are a whole different kettle of fish from a PHEV. Skoda even do a 1.0 /1.5 tsi MHEV. Easy enough to see the efficiency / mpg they can achieve compared to the more established ones from the other manufacturers. Hypermiling or just checking fuel use is common enough on this forum. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/503738-fuel-economy

Delivery times?
That is the same across the industry.

Delivery times?
Anything said in May 2022 by Skoda is so almost a quarter back and much water under the bridge since then. Even cars completed and exported. But production is still very much messed up.

Grinding sound on engine braking
@kimras the OP @Nwooothas not logged in for 4 years. Your issue might well be very different since you have DQ200 DSG and they had a manual. ? Have you had a mechanic try your car to see if they can identify the source of your noise?

Delivery times?
@AjdolinWas it the Skoda CEO or someone on the board of Skoda / VW that said the plan was to have the unfinished cars ready by the end of September, or word on the grape vine? Who was it that mentioned the parking spaces were empty and was that the CEO or someone from the Skoda Factory?

Lane assist is dangerous
It is not a legal requirement in the EU to have it until the next New Type Approved models come out and then it must for factory installed. If legally it must be operational then it better be 'Fit for purpose' and that is an issue for VW Group they need to get on with addressing. As to if now a Legal requirement on All New Cars in the UK like the media say, that would be all New Type Approved cars and they seem not sure if the DfT in the UK just went with the EU rules, but the cars will be EU Type Approved anyway no matter where built so they will have the New latest Safety Systems the EU brought in even when they might be crap and badly designed or operating.

Oil Change Message
What is actually getting done at a Major Service over and above that at an intermediate Service? A pollen filter maybe, more looking and seeing and reporting because not much of that was done at the intermediate. These are old prices, and what might have been charged regardless of cabin filters, plugs, air filters or fuel filters being replaced. They charged the money, spent less time, used less parts but somehow managed to take the cash and VAT and get to the same cost.

New or improved hubs announced, Government EV Loans in Scotland and free & no longer free public charging places..
Police Scotland are spending on EV's and the chargers will come at the Police Stations as the budget they got to put them in was big enough. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/police-stations-across-scotland-given-27745262 May 2022. 3.1 million spent on chargers. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/police-scotland-electric-cars-fleet-26965999 Feb 2022. http://www.sundaypost.com/fp/police-scotland-electric-cars

Electric Pickup trucks.
The First Registration of Range Rovers, Bentley & Rolls Royce Hybrids or ICE and similar should be banned from British Roads by next year if they really care. Include EV ones as well unless they can carry a Euro pallet. It has so much going against it but at least it can silent run while keeping the supervisor cozy while the generator it never towed is used to dig up the road during the night. http://www.parkers.co.uk/vans-pickups/news/2022/maxus-t90ev-electric-pickup-truck
