I forget what car it was on, but the only time I tried that I ended up just tearing the oil filter into two pieces as I turned the screwdriver, with the stuck end still stuck! Can't remember how I resolved it either.

It's the old chestnut of 'which emissions are they on about?' PHEVs probably do a reasonably good job of not killing too many humans with breathing difficulties in big cities whilst they run on their battery power. No NOx, no Carbon Monoxide, only particulates from brakes, not exhausts. When not in those areas they can fall back on fuel that will take them longer distances. This is a good thing, although many owners probably care less about their fellow urbanites and more about tax incentives. That type of emission reduction is forever getting mixed up with CO2 emissions which might kill the human species in the fairly distant future, but won't kill anyone this week. Important, but not the same problem as air quality in cities. The press seem almost incapable of recognising that what works well to solve the first, doesn't necessarily solve the second, and vice-versa.

I think VW group moved oil temperature sensing into the sump when variable-interval servicing came in, which is quite a while back now. Combined level/temperature sensor allowed monitoring/logging of oil temperatures in order to calculate how knackered the oil was, and to tell customers who neglected dipstick checking if the level had got too low, before it completely dried up. I don't think 120C sounds mad-high, perhaps some caravanners on here could comment?

Does anyone familiar with this family of engines know what @farty means here? I wouldn't expect there to be a remote oil cooler, with oil piped to/from it; is there?

I guess you mean that the K line continuity has been checked all the way between engine ECU and diagnostic socket?

I think both temperature and level info will emerge as a digitally encoded message. What temperatures are you seeing? Your engine is too recent for me to be able to find out much about it, unfortunately.

What's your engine code?

Oil temp is generally measured by the oil level and temperature sensor in the sump. Not aware of any alarm associated with it, but I guess you might get a warning light or message: you'd probably have to try quite hard. I can't quite picture where 'on the inlet to the engine' you might expect oil to be flowing?

Good shout @Tech1e. Try also with the negative probe on some clean engine metalwork.

Could you connect to the original ECU, before the change? Part numbers of old and new ECUs?

OK, that's good news. Numbers are still on the low side, but will probably improve as the battery now charges itself up for the first time in a while.

If those photos are of your car, are you sure it's not a problem with the wiring rather than the module?!

Apart from accidentally joining adjacent pins there's very little that you can do that would make matters worse; and that's easily reversed with a bit of solder wick.

It is worth complaining. That may be an excellent tyre (I have no idea), but you really want and were promised a matching set.

Skoda dealership garage or general one? If it's the former they may have some info on record if it's a sufficiently common fault (but they are unlikely to admit to that, more likely to say "never seen this before" even if they had three the same yesterday).
