We went up to the Smoke today (East Sheen to be precise) to see relatives. Decided to spend a glorious afternoon at Richmond Park on the way back. Saw lots of deer 😎 including this one which was right by my car: Some pillock decided to offer it some grass. Like the grass that was immediately all around it 🙄 I was willing it to kick or skewer him, but sadly it was better behaved than the idiot humans around it. I've always been under the impression that the oily part of a refrigerant was also a sealing agent for seals and hoses, but that's just me regurgitating advice from others as I'm by no means an expert, so I bow to your greater knowledge 👍 G

Think I'd be checking the door cards and door seals for signs of water runs then. Do you have a rear wash/wipe and is it washing fine? Sometimes elbows in the pipe run lines can loosen. It'd be a good idea to leave your aircon on all the time, all year round. Not only does that keep seals lubricated (and therefore gas in), but it also helps to dehumidify damp and condensation. Maybe run a dehumidifier in the cabin, to see how much water it extracts? Gaz

How do you know there’s definitely’ water coming in if you can’t find it? Have you checked under the carpets? Have you checked your pollen filter? - they can get mouldy and manky quite quickly. Agree with JD52 about aircon and using a cleaning/sanitising bomb. Gaz

Without wishing to tempt fate, the high volume of junk stopped, all of a sudden, five days ago. I've not adjusted anything, and I've had no junk at all (other than than which should be being deleted without me seeing it, which I obviously won't know about). Weird. G

I hate you (not really 😘) See, this is the type of post I really don't need to read. A recent solar installation and I'm exporting loads to the grid (double what we use). It's got me thinking that maybe it's time..... but a recent 900 mile round trip and my very comfortable GTI managed 50mpg at some points, which I was really happy about. But then long term (30k miles) it's cost me 19.1ppm, so almost three times your ID.4. I've already got an e-bike, a mobility scooter, so EV should only be a small step. But I like my petrol car, and I want to not like EV's, but all three I've driven have been great, which is not helping 🙄 Gnarrr, harrumph, grumble, whinge...... Ah, I see. If it were me, I wouldn't be saying or writing anything in relation to occupation 'X' if it's not the case, for the very reason you note. A quick Google would seem to provide a host of answers to your question, and potentially confirm your concerns. FWIW I've had several jobs where my job title or employment don't directly match the list of options available. So it's not an exact science, and insurers have taken the approach of the most logical match. The difference between employed and self employed is more significant I'd think. Gaz

Not sure I'm seeing the problem. Your insurance says you are both employed and self employed. The incident happened during the time that you are self employed. Have you specified the hours for each? If you have I could see that might be an issue. If you haven't, then part time can presumably mean anything from zero, to a gnats whisker of full time. If you are self employed, are your full time hours (e.g.) 50, but you're currently working 49, so therefore are still part time? Either way, the rest is surely semantics and you have insurance for the purpose the vehicle was being used for. Gaz

You've tried switching it off and on again? (Was a serious question - reboot might reconnect summint) I think getting a new card might just provide it with a new list of places and stuff, but if the problem is that it doesn't know where it is, then something else is up. Agree with langers2k. Gaz

Is it a Mk2 or Mk3 Octavia you're looking at? I would imagine it'll have the DQ200 seven speed dry clutch DSG. More of an automated manual than an automatic. We have the DQ200 in our Polo and it's been faultless over 49,000 miles. The DQ200 from that era had an issue with the fluid in its transmission. A Service Campaign '34H5' was initiated to rectify the matter. @ toot (amended-ish to avoid any confusion) might be able to provide further info on this. You can search 34H5 on here and find plenty of reading material. I'd be wary if the car you're looking at hasn't had the SC applied to it. Gaz

Could it be the smell is there on 'Lo', but is more noticeable when 'above Lo' because you are blowing more of it into the cabin? The heater itself is ostensibly a small radiator inside the dash area. It doesn't do anything clever. Faults are more usually a blockage (no heat) or rupture, in which case you should see leaking coolant and have the sweet smell of hot coolant. The fan motor, resistor block (per @J.R.), and motorised heater control flaps are another matter, and any of these might be causative. Have you checked your pollen filter to make sure it's not rank and stinky? They can produce some odd smells when going off 🤮 And just one further thought; The Mk1 can have issues when the pollen filter foam seal degrades. A fix is obviously to reseal the pollen filter with the appropriate cord or sealant. The two rubber bungs in the plenum chamber are often removed to stop them getting clogged with leaves and other detritus. With these out, more hot engine smells can find their way into the cabin. Gaz
