As well as having individual light switches, my (albeit 2018) Golf has a separate switch in the overhead binnacle which stops the internal lights from coming on - as in, in the way you describe. Not just switched off are they? Gaz

Are your brake lights still on when the accelerator is unresponsive? I'm just wondering if it's a faulty brake light switch. I had a Passat where the accelerator went completely dead. It turned out that the accelerator was functioning correctly, but the brake light switch was switching it off due to an internal fault. Gaz

You can count me in that group. I recently pulled in to a Blue Badge bay at Sainsbury's, only to have a bloke shaking his head at me. As I got out the car he commented that BB bays were for 'the disabled' (his words). As I got my walking stick out and hobbled off I simply said 'Yep'. He said 'Oh, sorry mate!' and his wife/partner/other gave him a clip around the ear 😁 Anyways, my car of the day has got to be my next door but one neighbour's 2007 Peugeot 307 HDi. Bought eight or so years ago at 132,000 miles, now at 229,000 miles, still on it's original clutch, doesn't miss a beat, lost 5th gear several years back, but doesn't make a song and dance about it. I've just gone to grab a photo of it and he's gone out, so I'll snap it later for posterity as he's planning to change it very soon (I've told him he's mad to and should really be aiming at 300k). Mrs Gaz has a 2015 Polo GTI with the DQ200 seven speed dry clutch DSG, and it's been faultless in the five years we've owned it. As @Gerrycan mentions, the oil spec. issues were a long time ago, and our DQ200 would appear to be after that timeframe. Mrs Gaz previously drove manual cars, but since having a DSG now wouldn't go back to a manual. I've driven autos for 42 years and the DQ250 six speed wet clutch DSG's I've had in my previous vRS, and current GTI are as good as any i've owned or driven. In my experience, I don't get any delay when pulling away. Ours are both off like scalded cats. I think it's a case of getting used to the stop-start and auto hold and having the car ready to go - I tend to twitch the steering wheel, which fires the engine back up, when I see a gap coming up. Agree with Gerrycan that you really ought to try both before deciding. If you're not used to a DSG, then you probably should go for an extended test drive to get a bit more familiar with them. Gaz

Both me and Mrs Gaz have locked each other in our cars too. Not intentionally at all, we're just used to locking our cars as we walk away from them. Mrs Gaz has left me in her car, asked me if I want her to leave her key in the ignition, to which I reply yes, she then takes the key and walks off with it. It's just habitual. I'm wise to it now and if I'm staying in her car I open the door and leave it ajar. Gaz

So let me get this straight, travelling at 20mph it's going to take me longer to get somewhere than if I was doing 30mph? Glad I was sitting down for that revelation 🙄 On some Motorways I've found myself able to hit the dizzy echelons of 70mph at certain times. G

I went to central London about 20 years ago for a training course (Press and media relations ) and on a whim took my pushbike. The freedom of movement was exhilarating, as it was quite like riding around a car park with cars shuffling along a bit every now and then. Even going up to East Sheen recently I took my folding bike, and going from East Sheen to Richmond I was leaving Lambo's, Ferrari's and Bugatti's for dead - it was almost embarrassing 😁 G

Looks almost identical to my old V6TDI. Just checked and it's not been MOT'd since 2021, so I guess it's deddered 😢 What about dropping in a known good engine from a scrapper? The hose wasn't replaced as it was not at fault, but it being cold led to finding the reason why hot water wasn't flowing through it when it should have been. Very sorry but I've no idea which hose, nor where it was. G

Thanks 🙏 I no longer have the vRS. It was a bit of a duff experience, and I decided to change. Lots of parts were replaced and it felt very much like the parts and labour cannon to which @J.R. refers, was used. Ironically the actual fault was found, after many replaced items, by good old common sense and hands on mechanic'ing, with the realisation that a hose which should have been hot, was actually stone cold 🙄 As to whether the resulting farce would've happened had the fault been identified correctly in the first place, who knows. Hello marko If it's the same valve, my 2015 2.0 TSI had the same symptom back in 2018 - no heat in the cabin. They (Skoda) referred to it as being the 'Coolant Check Valve' and I was told it was reporting being open, when it was in fact closed. I tried to get to the bottom of whether this valve was a factor in my turbo grenading itself, but all I ended up with was awkward moments with Skoda staff shutting up and shuffling away as quickly as they could: Gaz
