  1. That's exactly our concern at the moment and is one of the things (amongst other wider lifestyle issues) that's holding us back swapping 2007 our Octavia 4x4 for a Kodiaq or Karoq - we know the risks and issues around diesels / DPF's and short journeys / pollution etc. so petrol 'should' be the way to go... but having driven turbo-diesel's since 2001 we're worried we'd miss the easy torque and load carrying ability...
  2. I would guess the 'Troll' comment, along with the 'low technical knowledge' one was directed at me... ;-) Water off a duck's back though as far as I'm concerned as history has indicated our friend can be rather abrupt and does seem to have a chip on his shoulder at times... Good luck to the OP getting the issue fixed! You have the diagrams / wiring colour codes and switch / light / (and presumably) relay locations so should hopefully be able to trace with a multimeter.
  3. Says the man who was argumentative with others earlier in this thread... So hypocritical as usual! Cheers!
  4. errr... I think the picture tells all. I trust you'll be apologising to your fellow Briskodians?
  5. Sounds reasonable and understandable re the mud. Was more thinking an older 4x4 with the raised suspension that's only 17mm lower than the scout but the mud thing would still rule it out.
  6. If your looking at an outback it begs the question what about an Octy Scout or 4x4
  7. Can you not wedge the original cap under a nearby pipe or piece of bodywork when open..???... That's what I do with my mkii

Usually significantly less as the main noise generator is usually tyres. Also I understand that a number of third party suppliers are looking at rather clever noise cancelling systems to reduce even further the need for sound deadening (eg using roof linings and body panels as large 'speakers' to cancel out other noise generators)
  9. Mitsubishi Shogun??? Got a mate with a LWB one that he wheels out over winter instead of his 5 series touring and he swears by it. Solid mechanics and old school. Plus they'll be dirt cheap shortly when Mitsubishi pull out of the UK market. An alternative to the Shogun is the eclipse cross, which has a bit more style and can also be had in 4 wheel drive
  10. Yeah - I guess so - the market is 'elsewhere' these days... Have you seen the latest 7 series in the flesh - it's almost like they grafted this wierd squared off, big grilled front onto the old body - it's a total mis-match... Mind you it's probably good for 'scaring' other drivers out of the offside lane of the motorway - you see that coming up in your rear view mirror and just want it past and out of sight!
  11. Both the car and colour schemes will appeal to a certain section of society no doubt - probably footballers, z-list 'celebrities' or those with more money than sense that want to say 'look at me!'... The rest of us will just laugh at them and be sick in a corner at the sight of them. I've probably said it be fore but BMW 'design' is terrible at the moment in my opinion... and Adrian van Hooydonk has to take a lot of that blame... I was hoping Domagoj Dukec might change a few things but it appears he won't as he was one of the main protagonists with respect to responding to the desire to 'stand out' and has been instrumental in the ungainly maw on new BMW's.
  12. Agree... That front end is still hideous
  13. Not had a problem like that with other makes but did have exactly the same problem with Dunlop SP-01 tyres a few years ago as did others... So maybe Dunlop still have issues?
  14. I take it the Blaupunkt is a modern unit with a retro look? I've just got a replacement headunit for my 1995 MX5 but managed to find a working original Clarion CRX87RM from a Fiat for £7 but just need to change over the front panel as it's Fiat Branded - no DAB, Media or Bluetooth but at least it works with the CD multichanger... ;-)
  15. Can I suggest she carries one in a faraday bag. I've seen starting issues in the past in other makes when both key have been in the car.
  16. Not the Forrester but have a mate who had a 2.0 Impreza Sport (ie the non-turbo-nutter one). He absolutely loved and and put a lot of miles on it... until someone decided to use a spade to open the back door to his house and nick the keys and car...
  17. I refer you to my post of the 26th August...
  18. ooh - thanks - I have those on the Swift so will take a closer look as they will be of similar age
  19. 3 daft questions... Has the cam belt been done recently or around the time the vibration started / when you replaced the propshaft did you replace the rubber doughnuts on it / is it speed or engine revs dependant? We have some similar vibrations on our Octavia 4x4 but just under load at around 70mph - 75mph. My research on this has suggested it could be the doughnuts but it's not speed dependant and goes if the clutch is released, which seems to rule out the doughnuts. However, it does seem to be engine speed related and shows up worse in higher gears. I'm therefore thinking clutch or potentially engine mount alignment as I understand both can cause such a vibration. My clutch seems fine though so I'm favouring the engine mount alignment which seems very slightly out. Trouble is I cant get the bolts undone to realign it and check...
  20. I'll agree with you there - had some eejit in a Volvo SUV cut me up on the M62 over the last weekend - he seemed to be oblivious to the fact that the outside (overtaking) lane he was in was ending and, despite his speed difference being only a tiny bit faster than me he was determined to get past and used nearly the whole of the chevroned area to try and get past me before cutting in and nearly taking my bonnet off. I can only assume he had the 'cruise control' set and was oblivious to the world around him... butIf he'd waited a few seconds I'd have been past the queue I was overtaking and would have pulled in for him to go past.

I still don't get the point @e-Roottoot was making but it wasn't really explained clearly and maybe that's just me being slow on the uptake... ?? I 'think' he was saying if your working and out on the road then charge your EV for an hour whilst taking a break for lunch and claim wages for the hour as well? Unfortunately that's not always how the world works (or at least isn't how my world works as I very rarely get a lunch break and only get paid for a set number of hours per day, regardless of how many I do to get the job done as anything over and above the standard hours is classed as 'part of the job' at my level and cant be claimed as Overtime etc...).
  22. My guess here is that replacing the battery has 'cleaned' the contacts - they can get a very small amount of contamination/ corrosion on them that increases the resistance sufficiently to result in a drop in voltage at the key circuitry... unless of course you had dodgy batteries previously (I always check voltage with a multi meter before fitting).

What's with the £35 an hour - are you suggesting that people charging their vehicles whilst out on business are working in the time they are charging? For many that would be an impossibility (unless they are playing the system).
  24. It's a Jeep patriot judging by the wheelarch and front wing
  25. Not got one and have always thought they looks absolutely stupid and ridiculous on anything other than a massive American 4x4
