2024 Mk3.5 2.0TSi L&K or 2024 Mk4 1.5eTSi SEL ?
The things I can see on the driver aids are the upgraded Lane Assist Plus and traffic jam assist. Also as standard the Mk4 gets massage seats but the L&K I have reserved has them has an option. And I'd prefer the 18's on the SEL rather than the 19's on the L&K although it does look nice with 19's. The car should be in the dealer next week so test drive will tell all I suppose.

So I;ve had 16 Skoda's but I'm not getting on with my current Karoq, I hate the driving position and the seat. I've never had a Superb but I have had a Passat from new back in 2010 and my Father in Law still has it . So my must have's are Electric seats driver and passenger, petrol and auto. I've currenlty reserved a 2024 Mk3.5 2.0TSi L&K with just 5k miles. But here's my dilema, although I love the exterior there's no ignoring the Mk4's interior is ten years more modern and way upto date. For the same price as the Mk3.5 L&K I could get a Mk4 1.5TSi SEL. Going for the Mk4 I'd miss out of the extra power, Canton Audio, DCC, Heated screen, trizone climate etc but the Mk4 has more driver aids and the more modern interior. So what's everyone's thoughts? Anyone driven both, do they drive much differently? Thanks in Advance Lee

Driver Car Seat Cushion.
For me it's the angle of the seat base and that can't be adjusted on the manual seats. I find it too sloping for an SUV with a higher seat position.

Nearly 2 years of ownership.
My Karoq is now 14 months old. I come from a line of Skoda's but have had 4 Yeti's previously. The Karoq is obviously far more advanced for technology but doesn't have the bomb proof feel of the Yeti. I don't lke the angle of the drivers seat base in the Karoq and I don't like the second bounce when hitting bumps on a straight road, the car feels underdamped. I doubt I'll have another.

Octavia vRS CR to Karoq 2.0 tsi Sportline
Mk2 Octavia was bullit proof, my wife still has her 2012, we also had 4 Yeti's on the same platform. Technology on the MQB Karoq is a major step forward obviosly as is refinement and ride. Only downside is the later MQB cars don't feel as well built.

On the varioflex subject. I don't use them often but having had Four Yeti's previously I just like having that flexibility.

For later 24 cars and 25 they had to comply with legislation so automatic speed recognition and warning is always on by default. Varioflex became an option but full virtual cockpit became standard.

For me the biggest downside with the later 24/25 SEL's is the loss of Varioflex seating and the addition of speed monitoring.

You have to have Canton sound system to get the separate amplifier, uprated speakers in the doors , extra speaker in the dash and subwoofer in the boot. (10 speaker system and 615W) Standard Amundsen and Columbus has 8 speakers (Woofer and tweeter in each door) If you think that's excessive my old Jag had 17 Bowers and Wilkins speakers and 1200W of amplification with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 Surround Sound. Newer versions had 21speakers

UK is similar. 116ps 1.5TSi is available manual and dsg. Both have ACT, only the DSG gets e-Tech.

It's been in some VW models for a while, including the new Tiguan, Is more economical than the 1.0TSi on the latest tests. There's also a 130ps in some markets.

Fitting aftermarket towbar
If they have factory towbar or factory towbar prep then there isn't an issue. Test cars are usually supplied by the manufacturer anyway so no issue. This issue isn't restricted to VAG as well.

Yep. MY24 are locked down across VAG. VCDS no longer works and not even dealers have access apparently. One guy on the caravan forums is trying to reject a MY24 Q5 as no one can program an aftermarket towbar. These are the regulations that are causing the issues with software updates and coding. From the Skoda website. Vehicles with UNECE PR Code NI1,NI7,NI8 and NI9 cannot be coded at the current status. What is UNECE? The acronym UNECE is often heard in connection with car cybersecurity. It refers to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. This body has a significant influence on international standards in transport security, and in recent years the UNECE has issued two regulations relating to automotive cybersecurity that all manufacturers have to comply with. The CSMS (Cyber Security Management System) regulation requires manufacturers to ensure that cars are protected from cyber attacks and software hacking. The SUMS (Software Update Management System) regulation focuses on software updates and makes it mandatory to ensure and document cars’ compliance with the homologation regulations even after software updates. UN regulation R155 requires certification of a secure cybersecurity system (CS). It is a mandatory requirement for new vehicle type approvals in all countries adopting the UNECE guidelines. Currently all EU countries, Japan and Korea . R155 is very broad reach, because it incorporates every aspect of the vehicle and its components for the life of the vehicles. So all OEM suppliers are bound by it as well. UN regulation R156 requires certification of a secure software update system (SU), including (not least) OTA updates. Also mandatory

Fitting aftermarket towbar
To muddy the waters all MY24 VAG cars have the software locked down so not even the dealer can program an aftermarket towbar. Fortunately Skoda UK decided to spec all MY24 Karoq's with towbar prep so it's now standard.

The correct size for a 2wd on 17's is 215/55x17

headlights Upgrade to LED
5000k to 6000k for modern LED Skoda headlights. Yeti Xenon's were 4300k from factory although many replacement Xenon bulbs available to 5000k and some "Blue" Xenons to 6000k

I'm surprised you found the 2's hopeless in snow. Most reviews put them on par with Premium Winters for snow traction and well above the average winter tyre. Although I agree the first generation were no where near a winter.

I have CC2's on our Fabia and Octavia and I had them on our Yeti until I recently swapped it for our Karoq. The snow performance is exceptional and wet performance while no longer matching the leaders still betters a midrange all season and is only a few percent off the best in braking but finished 2nd best in wet aquaplaning. It's not night and day, they are not a bad wet weather tyre by any means. What really impresses me every time I get in a car with CC2's is the comfort and noise, they seem to change the car. Currently my Karoq has Brigestone EV rated ECO tyres and the are noisy, harsh and pulling away in the wet is a nightmare for wheelspin. I can't see me having these on for long. I'll be going with CC2's or CC'3 if I can wait that long.
