Who are you with?

Featured Replies

Just wondered who everyone is insurede with, what car they are insured on, and how much it costs you?

I have just got a quote for a 2002 Octy vRS, unmodded with 6yrs no claims from HIC. I'm 26, with no points, no accidents in the last 6 years. They wanted.....

I'm just renewing mine for next week,

Alan,

2002 Octavia RS

9 years protected NCB

I'm 40 (but don't tell anyone)

No points

Completely standard -

2001 Octy vRS

Liverpool + Victoria

28yo

no points

1 non fault accident claim going through so 3 yrs ncb (should be 5)

A few mods

direct line, norwich union direct and elephant all seem generally quite good

Try Skodas own insurance with "equity red star" cheapest i found.....match other quotes....best bit is they use VAG bodyshops

octy vrs 2003, 37 and wife 34

full 9 years NCB protected and clean licences, fully comp;

Liverpool & Victoria seemed way cheaper for me & are especially friendly if you want to do any mods, remember you need to notify companies of all mods & some will charge extra simply if you change wheels from standard.

L&V with mods (no charge) were under 1/2 the figure Norwich Union (quote me stupid price) wanted

Also check what you are getting for your money, some Include European cover others will charge extra so if you plan a trip abroad in the next year this can be an a dvantage, L&V for instance include for European cover & note it on the back of your certificate in several languages therefore you dont even need to apply & pay for a green card.

modified octy vrs

36 yrs old, max ncb, 0 points, garaged, reasonable area.

Unmodified Octy vRS

27 Years old living in swindon area

Full NCB

9 Years

No points or accidents etc

Std Octy vRS, age 31, slightly dodgy area, full NCB (protected), no points / crashes. Fully comp with Direct Line -

Age 26

Fully comp with Direct Line

Standard Octavia VRS

4 years NCB with protection

No points (touch wood)

On drive (no garage)

22

Fully comp with elephant

0 years claims

0 points

on driveway no garage

Declared standard

and i have had a years ban which they know about

Only have a 1.6 GLX....but with 10 years ncb and no points and I'm many years past the point of being considered a young driver....Direct Line

Give Esure a go, an unlikely one you may think but they turned out cheapest for me -

31 with LV

max NCB, guaranteed

unlimited, business, etc.

stockport

remapped, sports cat - made no difference

1 accident, 0 points.

25 (was 24 when buying insurance)

2yrs no claims

sdp&c

standard octy vRS

0 accidents, 0 points

Jheez. I know that, at 32, I'm not a young-un and I've only got a 150bhp estate, but after reading this few-weeks-old thread I do feel quite good now that elephant only quoted me

Try telling your insurance company that your engine power has gone up from 150 to 230bhp - and increase of over 50% - and watch their eyes cross. The vRS boys only have to declare an increase of 28% if they go the same tuning route. LiverpoolVictoria won't bat an eyelid at remap, bigger turbo, sports exhaust, lowered suspension, bigger brakes, expensive alloys etc etc - and the cover they offer is very comprehensive.

Seeing as the output power is variable and dependant on fuel, atmospheric conditions, etc, how do the insurance people value a remap when it comes to pricing? Who performed it? Theoretical maximum gains? Specific dyno plot?

I'm with Greenlight and don't know how much I'm paying!

I paid

just got a quote from admiral,

And just to prove that LV are as good as their word...

I was today told of the experience of a long-standing Briskoda member who decided to modify his OctyRS by using the rear end of a Sierra..

LV paid out with no problems, and his car is Jabba'd ;)

(No names etc..)

;)

Wasn't Jason insured with LV when he decided to try and emulate a 4X4 in Wales? Whoever, he was back on the road with a 'new' car very quickly.

Dennis,

Indeed he was :)

My sons have been told by Adrian Flux to get their cars rolling road tested after carrying out mods so that they can declare the power gains. They also have to declare each mod. In my case my 4X4 was delivering 165bhp (on Optimax) before being remapped and the power gain on the day was 65bhp. An insurer could have argued that the base figure should be the manufacturer's stated 150bhp, giving a power increase of 80bhp for insurance premium purposes. All that is academic if you insure with LV.
