  • I bought the same setup, but found that the tank contained zero filtering material, so the catch can wasn't exactly catching much and because the vent was under the bonnet, the cabin always used to sm

  • Well, let's just say that he's the king of modding Fabias......

  • Thanks Ross - you're quite right of course - but I wanted to avoid any hot air at all coming into the intake.

My god thats a proper install.

Fair play.

Joel,

Sweet looking tank!!

See you went in the side of the intake for the bracket, good mod.

Just need to clean the engine now

Are you putting the engine cover back on?

Will it still fit?

looks great and very professional:thumbup:

Engine cover has not chance of fitting- maybe if you cut it, But I'm not bothered - I'll just remove the catch can and put the engine cover back on when I sell it

Smart install Joel. Really considering getting this mod done - Although need 20mm Spacers first! :D

When you sat "getting this mod done", you are going to do it yourself right?

This is one of the easyest mods to do.

Faster than changing your alloys!!

and no big tools needed.

Anyone in the my area that wants it done, but doesnt trust themselves, PM me.

I cant have people paying good money for such a mod! You have to buy the stuff tho!

Having recently seen the state of the EGR valve on my diesel octy I am planning on doing this mod when I clean out the EGR valve and inlet manifold. I am somewhat financially challenged at the moment and I was wondering about using an air filter from a compressed air system.

Machine mart sell an inline filter with 1/2" connections for under £20 (here) and thought this may do the job. OK it isn't all shiny and chrome but if it works...

Anybody tried anything like this?

Disposable fuel filters have been tried - do a google for CCV mod.

At the end of the day, the simplest, cheapest, most pikey effort works the best.

That's not in any way meant to undermine the eye-candy lovely underhood work that has been posted above, it's just not an absolute requirement for all-out performance. Your choice.

Id agree this looks like a great mod.

@lofty - Id be doing it myself fella ;)

Have to agree basil.

Pikey mod is the best way really I suppose - however I decided after doing so many bodges on my old car I would keep pikeyness to a minimum on the fabia

I was just thinking from the point of heat, the gases/vapours coming out are going to be hot whereas with compressed air it normally isn't hot. But looking at some fuel filters people have used they seem to be made of plastic so it should be ok.

The advantage of the air filter is that it has a manual drain on it and you also seem to b able to see into it to see how much muck it has accumulated.

Definately not bothered about the look, its a diesel for gods sake.

You should see my new catch can. I'll give you a clue as to what it is - Millers Oils make them.

you can also see how much on the alu ones, as they have a plastic gauge at the side

I've had mine on now for about 200miles and theres more oily deposits in the outlet filter than in the catch tank. I get plenty of white smoke out of the filter when the engine is running

23128.attach

This is what mine looks like, and the engine cover fits nicely!

I was gonna put mine there, but couldnt figure out how to mount it securely...

People need to stop posting pictures, your making my effot look cra9.

I didnt want a catch tank or anything as i wanted to keep the weight down.

Finding it hard as it is, let alone filling my engine bay with shiny pots! lol.

Dave

 I wanted to keep weight down too, which is why I just put in a "hose"

Have not noticed it smoking at all, but then that's one advantage of having it terminate under the car as I can't see it. :D

Could at least have trimmed off the endy bit on the cable tie! :P ;)

why ?

its dark under a car no one will see it

:D

Ive not even zip tie'd mine!!!

But like you said, its not to me seen.

O, and ive thought of a problem with this mod...

If your crank case has positive pressure due to heat, if you parked in a flood and let your engine cool, it would such up water like a straw!!

(for people who dont knoe mechanics very much, A..it would only happen to pipes hanging down, almost touching the ground, and B..im messing).

Dave

i just done this mod,total cost,£5 result:thumbup:
