  • I bought the same setup, but found that the tank contained zero filtering material, so the catch can wasn't exactly catching much and because the vent was under the bonnet, the cabin always used to sm

  • Well, let's just say that he's the king of modding Fabias......

  • Thanks Ross - you're quite right of course - but I wanted to avoid any hot air at all coming into the intake.

I had a go at this.

Skudmissile got a look at the original "extreme pikey" version and was so horrified that he donated two lengths of specially preformed 19.1 mm hose which he had prototyped on his own car (NOT the Volvo) to improve my efforts (Hhhmmm, A for design, Z for execution).

[Cough, cough, clears throat, becomes defensive] Sorry bud, but I don't have a tastefully tiled, heated and skirting-board enhanced garage to work in.

Anyhoo, using Extreme Pikey Elephant Hose CCV Modification Mark I, (EPEHCCVM-M1) over 720 miles at the week-end I somehow managed to increase the overall brim-to-brim fuel consumption by about 2mpg (49+ mpg pre-EPEHCCVM-M1, 47+ mpg after). The trip computer also reflected an increase, but it tells lies in any case

I have just installed SI-EPEHCCVM-M1 on the car, the Skudmissile Improved EPEHCCVM-M1, and will keep you posted.

[scratches head] Any ideas guys?

Finally got around to trying this mod:D. Easy enough to do except the pipe going into the intake seems to be a slightly different size to the PD and petrol engines. I ended up screwing a blanking cap on the end.

I got the 110bhp diesel and I had to rotate the round plastic thing on the top of the engine - is this the regurgitator valve or something?

The red thing is a compressed air filter from Machinemart.

See the attached piccie

Done this today, eventually. Took about 15mins farting around with it lol Didnt use a catch can, just vented it to atmosphere down by the bulkhead. Dont know if its the placebo effect but the car "seems" smoother and more responsive through the gears. Car feels "different" but in a good way lol

Next on the list.......Allard EGR power pipe and get the cell light mapped out for it! lol

good lad

cheers Jas lol

Anyone else done this and noticed an increase (although slight) in fuel economy? Also some are saying their's are less smokey........mine aint lol

Overall this mod seems to work, car has ben running perfect with NO issues.

Top mod from Bas....................AGAIN!!! lol

I havent noticed any difference in smoke nor have I noticed any difference in economy but it does feel like it pulls a little harder, maybe down to no more hot air being pushed back into the air intake. I have a catch tank and it is collecting oil as it should. The main difference is the engine does seem a little rattlier and noisier, it might just be me but I'm sure it is a little louder.

Not noticed a noise difference i must admit

Isn't this mod a MAF saver.

(if you have not done this) There is nothing to stop all those steamy oily gases once you have turned off the engine travelling down the intake (they gotta go somewhere..lol)....to rest on your lovely shiny MAF

The anti shudder is further down the line.

Or am I missing something.:o

eh, dont think so as you've already taken the crank case pipe away from the intake pipe, so no gasses should be anywhere near the intake lol........i think lol

fook emissions

No I said if you have not done this mod !!! lol The crankase breather willl still be on and there is nothing between the breather pipe and the MAF.#]

Hence oily gases heading there way towards MAF when engine off and warm.

Venting to atmosphere and having a decat FTW!

Thats what i like to see :thumbup:

Hey guys, can anyone tell me what size and diameter pipe is needed in order to do the catch can mod, cheers.

20mm id from memory

ora bit of washing machine hose :D

20mm inner diameter? is that correct? cheers.

I used 20mm electrical flexible conduit. Fits neatly and matches the conduit used in the engine bay to keep wires together. Bottle is tucked behind blank panel at side of radiator and held by plastic ties. You have to look hard to see it. Works fine. Left a stub on original pipe connection and used push-fit plumbing stop end.

A great mod from Baz and the EGR and intercooler can now be cleaned and will stay clean.

HTH

Right, ive had mine on for some time now.

I did notice a change in mpg, but ive also noticed a change in how offen i have to put oil in my engine!

About your engine being off and vapours going to the MAF... wrong...

As soon as your engine is off, the crank case goes to negative pressure as it cools, so it atcually sucks (i say suck, not like a vacuum!).

So oily crud wouldnt make it up that way. (also, the oily air is heavyer, so wouldnt "float" that way).

HTH, Dave

Mine is now running through a catch can and vented to air from the other inlet.

when I first vented it to air it was started blowing oil through the breather filter and all over my engine bay.

I made the filter inside the can larger, so that any air coming into the can went directly into the filter.

Breather filter is no longer blowing oil, hasnt used any oil so far, and has collected crap at the bottom

This breather filter is it where you put the oil into the engine - like below the cap? as i have done this mod yesterday and oil is coming from there??

Hello mate.

This is what was happening, it would blow oil even over a 40 mile journey

this is what the bottom of the catch can looked like after 3000 miles around 500 vented to air

P1000719.jpg

my catch can is now more tightly packed and have done around 500-600 miles since doing this and NO OIL is being blown AT ALL

its all being caught
