  • I bought the same setup, but found that the tank contained zero filtering material, so the catch can wasn't exactly catching much and because the vent was under the bonnet, the cabin always used to sm

  • Well, let's just say that he's the king of modding Fabias......

  • Thanks Ross - you're quite right of course - but I wanted to avoid any hot air at all coming into the intake.

Here you go jase, as you can see the new breather filter is clean as a whistle and all oil is being trapped in my can :)

That is a very pretty setup, much neater than mine. I have done a similar thing inside my catch can. I extended the inlet connection and actually put a breather filter on the inside of the can. Only steam come out of my outlet pipe now. Top work chaps!

Thank you. Its taken a while to get it right, still not absolutely 100% happy with it but its doing its job and looks pretty good now.

Looks a good job, but i've just vented mine without the catch can. No problems or excess oil usage lol true "pikey" lol lol lol

I did that at first but wanted a more professional solution. I was also concerned that dust and crap might get up the pipe as it cools. A bit pathetic I know but meh.

professional truckers in the US use this mod all the time, and you can imagine the distances they travel. It is legal for commercial truck use there (only). No reports of anything bad, but if you make the hose too short you will get oil vapour condensing out and messing up your engine bay.

In true pikey mod fashion, keeping it simple seems to be the best bet :D

(But love the above pics on a more sophisticated setup)

My 2p worth

Does doing this mod have any effect on possible turbo longeiveity?

Or no effect?

Looks good joel, no my leakage is through the filler cap... spoke to a lad who works for VW and he thinks one of my clips is broken as the filler cap can move hence leaking oil

Bloody crap VAG quality

I had a play about with this modification a while back.

I need to perfect it to say the least.

Catch can aint too good and letting oil out the breather!

Note the Irn-Bru bottle cap! ;):D

Youve got a kink in your pipe there - might cause a bit of back pressure?!

Have you filled the catch can with anything?

My breather was blowing oil until I filled it properly.

Really nice job - alright I'm convinced. Just ordered the can on fleabay, undecided whether to vent to air or recirc at the moment. Where's the best place to get heater hose? Motorserv?

i nicked mine from an old washing machine

but you could use rubber hose or for an oem look some black flexible electrical conduit (they ran out at my last place of work hence the w/m hose)

I got mine from Motorworld, but wasn't cheap.

A local motor factors will sell it on huge rolls by the metre, probably a couple of quid per metre.

Catch can arrived yesterday, made a plastic partition and stuck it in with silicon sealant and using coarse wire wool for a filter.

Right, all done...shamelessly copied (or 'inspired by') Joel:

Decided to recirculate - worried about a cooling engine drawing moist air in, particularly at this time of year.

Getting the hose onto the crankcase cover was the devil's own job - it still isn't on enough, is there a technique for making thick hoses more pliable? I tried the kettle and a hairdryer :o

Just to let people know that 99% of the heavy vehicles in this country run their crankcase breathers to atmosphere, these inculde Cummins and Volvo.

I'm liking the plastic partition. Good job.

Just thought I'd pop in to say mine's running like a dream still, no oil through the breather, no engine oil being used, and a fair bit being caught by the catch can.

My "vented to atmos" CCV is working great too, same as Joel, no loss of oil

Do you know what? The best bit of this mod is running without the engine cover - the noise (when giving it the beans) is great!

bummer  i forgot to put my washing machine hose back on after my mot

would this mod, combined with EGR turned down, reduce carbon build up on the turbo vanes or would it have minimal effecT?

Carbon + oil vapour = black sticky goo is the equation.

My breather was blowing oil until I filled it properly.

Ive taken it back off just now.

Going to have to get proper pipes for it.

Will have another play about with the idea soon again.

Filled it with wire wool the other day aswell asfter i emptyed it.

Cheers.
