  • I bought the same setup, but found that the tank contained zero filtering material, so the catch can wasn't exactly catching much and because the vent was under the bonnet, the cabin always used to sm

  • Well, let's just say that he's the king of modding Fabias......

  • Thanks Ross - you're quite right of course - but I wanted to avoid any hot air at all coming into the intake.

I will do this after a few more reviews are in.

Where has everyone run there drip pipe to?

Is it an mot fail to have no catch can?

Is it an mot fail to have no catch can?

"CCV re-routing / recirc / leave to vent by subframe" is not part of MOT. Literally the only thing they do engine wise is a smoke test. (They might check the engine mounts with a good wobble of the block - finer points of MOT testing are beyond me :D)

Top surfing Joel.

A great mod for people on a tight budget too (like me).

Nothing to do with the Mot at all.

And constant positive pressure in the crankcase means theres no chance of sucking up crud.

The only "risk" of having an open pipe is if it got really cold (and I'm talking arctic conditions) the steam is likely to freeze toward the end of the pipe which could cause a blockage and then serious crank pressure issues. However, in the UK climate I don't see this is an issue, and if it did get real cold, you could always just keep an eye on it, or reverse the CCV pipework back to stock for a short time. With a 19mm i.d. pipe, it would take a real big freeze to block that. :D

I would say...

So where does the end of the pipe go?

I would just vent mine to the road

No chance really in the UK.

Having said that, i did cut my tube at 45 degrees just in case. But TBH, i dont thing it will ever get cold enough...and the engine will warm it up in the UK anyway.

HTH. Dave

My pipe is cable tied to the subframe. have not seen any oil, so I believe the amount being vented to atmos is so insignificant to not even worry about.

I spent 3.60 for my mods. If that helps anyone.

I will do a little write up with photos when it arrives just to help out.

I also plan to get a catch tank with breather filter in the future and run it back into the vent oil-free so when I do I'll update, but wont be for a while.

So a 19mm cap with a little bit of glue will do for blanking?

You wont even need glue if you get a long chair/table rubber which will go all the way over the tube nice a tightly

Hmmmm pictures needed of your when your done

Just had a look as gonna tackle this tomorrow.

Had a really good think about blanking the end of, so in the end I came up with a bottle cap. I cant believe how well it fits. Pushed it on and hey presto its tight as a badgers ar$e.

So for all of you people out there that are going to do this mod, dont go buying copper blanking ends or seat leg rubbers. Just reach into the recycling bin for a cap and spray it black

I got a black seat rubber for 34p, looks a bit better than that bottle cap :P

Think i'll have a bash at this. On the end of the "trunk" would a crank case breather filter work? (just to tart it up a bit lol) only asking as i've got a CCB lying about in the garage

I was given a perfect K&N crankcase filter, but I left the end open - if it were to clog up it wouldn't do its job very well, and its pretty much only positive pressure all the time. It's the perfect pikey mod IMHO - wish I had known about it years ago.....

Try it - you'll like it - did I steer anyone wrong with the cage mod propaganda????

Cheers:thumbup:

Thanks Bas.........Think in being led to the modding dark side! lol lol lol

It is now black tho

i found this on google while looking for something esle,

I have considered doing this for a while on my pd golf, the only thing you will need is a filter on the end as when the engine cools the crankcase if negativley pressured compared to atmos, I run my track car with it vented to atmos though a KN style filter and i have no problems with it cloging up, nor did I on my old road car.

Ill get busy next weekend and see how I go, anything that can improve the economy and give me poss more power I like!

Found these beauties in B&Q. Once you've unclipped the manifold part, pull the clip end back off the hose and clip it back onto the manifold. One of these little hole plugs clips right on the end of that plastic bit. Fantastic!

Should have taken a picture of the actual finished piece, but I'm still experimenting with catch cans. Those hole ends are 48p for 10. So if a few of you live near each other you could share a bag.

Share a bag. PMSL... thats not even 5p each!!

Does anybody foresee any issue by applying the elephant mod to the PD170 of my Octy?

TIA
