vRS WRC on its way

Featured Replies

Well, just thought I'd say hi to you all.

Been reading for a couple of days now and you seem like a friendly and helpful bunch, already got some good tips for when I get my new toy on Saturday...

As you may have guessed... No 63/100 Octavia vRS WRC, as Skoda intended complete with its coat of white paint and stickers, 2500 miles from new, late registered in Jan 2003. And best of all it's only cost me

Welcome :)

IIRC the WRC editions were originally priced new at between 18k and 19k, so sounds like you have a good price for a rare car. Low mileage for age, so I expect you are looking forward to giving it a good hard 'running in' :D

Regards,

Thanks for the welcome. Nice to be here :-)

I've been led to believe that they sold for between 18K to 20K, apparently the list price was

Hiya Dan and welcome. Let me guess - Sedgefield Motor Company?

  • Author

Yep, that's right.

Incidentally, now is NOT the time to tell me it's some doggy old insurance write off or a fake

I wouldn't know Dan but I was having a nose around it when I got the new one a lttle while ago... BTW you didn't see a Black 51 plate vRS Hatch for sale with 18's and a Jabba re-map did you?

  • Author

Hmm, there was only one black hatch, can't remember the plate, but it certainly didn't have wheels... Chaps there didn't mention a remap either when I asked them about it, but they did say they'd sold a black one recently.

As for the WRC, i've spent a good few hours crawling around/under/over/inside it and can't find anything particularly dodgy about it and the HPI checks out OK so I ain't losing any sleep over it :-)

Hmm must have sold it then - my old one so just curious.

Anyway, the WRC looked pretty smart when I saw it. I think they were using it as a promo vehicle to advertise SMC as they are somewhat 'distinctive'. Good buy though for that price.

BTW where abouts in the NE are you? There's a few of us Northern types on here aswell :)

How do the WRC versions differ from normal VRS versions?

More power, different suspension, stripped interior?

Xenon headlights

White paint and wheels

Plaque on dash

heated seats

Power / suspension are stock

WRC livery

Apparently the one I'm buying is the second WRC they've had recently, and they did indeed use the one before as a promo vehicle for a while, but mine has only been in a short time and hasn't been used... Which is nice :)

I'm in Easington Lane, incidentally... but not originally... moved from Suffolk last March, and I work in Newcastle. Parents live in Bishop Auckland.

And ESP, CD player instead of Cassette and Sill Protectors.

There are not that manny WRC vRS's in the UK. 25 has been mentioned before, I think I know where most of the UK based ones are now.

Forgot about the ESP. Might see you around then Dan, I'm just down the road from Bishop...

Yep, 25, that's the number I've heard. I'm trying to get confirmation from a pal of mine in the *cough*DVLA*cough* but he's only found 23 so far... may be that a couple are scrapped/written off/SORN/unregistered for some reason.

I'll keep an eye out... No doubt at all you'll spot me coming...

Any threats to my WRC uniqueness in the area that you know of, Jimmy?

Oh yes, and side airbags.

No more WRC's round these parts that I know of. Although there was a rumour that an un-liveried one was pootling around M'Bro not so long ago....

Well, you'll know me if you see me then :-) will be adding a Briskoda sticker or two to mark myself out as 'in with the in crowd'.

Gimme a flash and a wave, pull me over for a chat if you see me about... I'll be around Bish a fair bit.

Welcome,

You'll certianly enjoy the heated seats in a few months ;)

Swaped to the wrc spec last December, I'd brought it in my mind anyway on the way down, but looking at the beaches of Newquay in December with a warm bum was very good indeed :D

ESP is a handy thing. Xenon's are great although I find the main beam a little useless, need more light at night.

A good price indeed given the milage.

Welcome Dan

Nice to see a WRC in the area, would be nice to get a group shot of a "full set" of RS's sometime ;)

As for a Northern meet, we ARE trying to set something up, but we need more than 4 or 5 cars to make it a decent day out ;)

Keep watching, we'll get it sorted soon.

I know what you mean about buying it in your mind... I looked at it last Wednesday night, talked myself out of it on the way home, and went back with SWMBO to look at 'the other vRS' on Saturday, all the time knowing full well that although I was 'just looking', I'd already mentally put down the deposit

Right'o then. As of this coming Saturday morning I'm up for a meet/photoshoot/pint/whatever. Let me know the date and time and I'm there!

There'll be another RS in M'Bro in about a weeks time, so would love to see a Northern meet...
