Which ISP??

Featured Replies

Righty... Some sunday morning pondering for ya all....

I currently have 512k ADSL with BTyahoo which i am generally happy with (apart from all the yahoo **** theyve got)

problem is, now they have decided to limit bandwidth to 15gig a month, which is unacceptable as i download more than that in a week.

SOOOO. concequently its time to change ISP and im after peoples suggestions..

Think i would like, AT LEAST a 1mb unmetered service. possibly with a 2mb option :D

it must have all the usual trimmings, lill bit of webspace and some pop3 mailboxs and webmail.

i need it to be reliable, and preferably not have any stupid rules like no web/ftp hosting (ala NTHELL)

I also may need static IP addresses, altho these are not essential.

So far ive been looking @ plusnet who seem to offer a decent service... anyone with them??

Have you got cable TV? I've got an NTL cable modem running at 600K for

Demon internet will offer all you want. No DL limits, fixed ip, full newsgroup access etc etc. And they always answer the phone quickly should you need help. Been with them for years and have never had any problems other than my ADSL line failing once. Demon liased with BT and it was sorted in no time. (www.demon.net)

I'm very happy with Blueyonder. Fast downloads, broadband- a must-, and pretty reliable service so far- hasn't gone flooey once since getting it over a year ago.

Digressing slightly, does anyone have anything positive to say about AOL? Their new Platinum service offers 1mb for the same price (

Found AOL fantastic when I was on dialup (for about 3 years). When I got cable though it made sense to get broadband with it, hence I'm with NTL. Who I find pretty good for speed and limits, *but* I'd imagine they're pretty lousing for hosting and that.

Demon are excellent for "power user" broadband though, from what I've seen of it...

I have used plusnet for the last eight months or so, no real problems, you get a dial-in account in case ADSL goes down and the plusnet site gives good info on the service and any faults.

No ports blocked that I can find and no download limitation. I also use it to work from home and VPN works through it as well.
