Grrrrr women drivers!!!

Featured Replies

Rite, I'm sooooo pi$$ed off.

Just returned from York today after my leather retrim. Very happy with it up until about an hour ago.

Some stupid b1nt reversed into my rear door.

Luckily its only the o/s rear door that is damaged. Looks like the door card is coming off after only 4 hours of it going on.

Oh why do things happen when you've just had something done.

Anyway turns out she wants to avoid insurance and pay me for it.

How much would I be looking for a new door etc... or do you think I should push for a insurance job and send it to my dads work.

Will post pics tomorrow

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :(

go and get a quote from where you want the work doing and then give her the bill, that way you don't have to go where the insurance company tell you too, sorry to be reading this btw,and hope all is resolved quickly:thumbup:

Get an official estimate. If your dad has a place get him to give a retail not mates rates quote and that is your estimate for her.

Then go to somewhere else very expensive and get a quote.

Present her with both and say you're happy to go with the cheaper one or go through the insurance if needs be.

If it were me I'd probably favour getting the job done properly through insurance and then you'd have more of a guarantee if there were later any faults in the repair.

Inform your insurer that the incident has occurred and give them the 3rd parties details. Tell them that you do not wish to make a claim yet as the 3rd party has offered to settle outside insurance. That covers you if she gets arsey about it later.

Then, as suggested above, get 2 quotes and present them to her.

I wouldnt give her an estimate as she will get that figure in her mind & if its more she might refuse to cough up the extra, best hit her with a written quote.

Sorry to see that damage but your seats look great:thumbup:

Yeah seats do look nice. Any chance of some more pics?

I'd go with the advice about letting your insurance company know about it and pass them her details. Getting this sorted out between both parties normally turns into poo! I know it sounds sort of thoughtful of you letting her avoid any insurance problems - but it was unfortunately her fault and you don't need any insurance problems of your own. Too many stories of "what? who, me? sorry I don't know what you are talking about" - when the bill appears. Plus there might be emergant work when the job is actually carried out and you will have already agreed a price with her.

Don't forget to add for a hire car while yours is off the road and your time and mileage and phone calls as well

Are you sure that the door is not repairable? Saves the hassle of removing and refitting another one. A new door from Skoda is going to be megabucks and if you get a 2nd hand door resprayed, it's going to be exactly the same anyway. :) The lady might appreciate saving a little money. Say £50 for that door, allow £200 for the respray / refit (probably £150 really) and treat the change as hassle reward. :)

At the risk of being controversial I do have SOME sympathy with people who don't wish to increase their already SCANDALOUS car insurance premiums by making a claim. You would be relying on them (a complete stranger) to be completely honest though. That's for you to decide.

cant see innsurance replacing complete door for what looks a scrape

You say that but it maight actualy be cheaper & easier to replace rather than straighten, fill, sand & spray.

With hindsight I think you should go straight to your insurers, she made the mistake & thats what we have insurance for. Dont be temted to get it done on the cheap just to save her a few quid, the result will stand out a mile if its not done right, would you buy a car that has a noticable chep repair?????

You should inform your insurance company regardless of whether you are making a claim or not. That way it is documented properly and you are covered. Tell them she has offered to pay for the repair and they should tell you what they advise and what help they could give you if she doesnt pay?

I get a lot of jobs like this, as I am Police officer. My advice is always the same. Tell the insurance company and get it documented and make sure you are fire proof!

Personally I would always opt to let the insurance deal, as that is what you pay them for!

Yup, my dad said take it to where he works and they'll throw a new door on. Says they do it all the time

Already informed my insurers and given them her details, so if she does get ar$ey I can just say sort it out via them.

Cheers for the views.

I'll put some more pics of the seats in a different thread later:thumbup:

Its difficult to tell in the photo, but is the door actually bent or just paint damage?

I will be amazed if any insurance company give the go ahead for a new door for just minor cosmetic damage.

If only it was that easy

Just looks scratched and scuffed.

Most likely a £250 as they respray 2 panels not just the affected door. Depends if the door is damaged too.

She'd be better off going through the insurance. Why the feck did she buy insurance in the first place? Unless she's only got 3rd party/ TPFT and not comprehensive in which case shes liable to foot the cost of accidents which are her fault anyway.

She doesnt want to go through the insurance fair enough but women don't pay that much. My 28 yr old sister pays £400 on a Micra 1.0 compared to my £640 and we've had the cars for roughly the same period.

What about what you want? You obviously want your car back on the road looking perfect.

I went into the back of someone in a Fiesta mk2 I think (very lightly) in a company van, we exchanged details. He settled on £30 for bumper.

I wasn't in no position for a debate as I was at fault tbh.
