Can i ask why the promise to beat other quotes is crap? Are we going about it the wrong way or something?

I phoned a competitor who also promises to beat a renewal quote whilst offering like for like cover. They came in as promised at 10% lower than the AF renewal. I then recieved a last ditch attempt from AF which states that if I had recieved a better quote for my renewal elsewhere it would be beaten.

Now I am a reasonable man and I know that you can't keep beating two companies against each other but what should have happened is that AF beat my quote for the competitor and then the competitor would have backed out and given up the business that way everyone has had their bite of the cherry.

The woman I spoke to at AF got all defensive and quite arsey saying that you couldn't play the two companies off against each other and she'd have to speak to a manager. She came back and sarcasticly said that if I sent in a copy of a written quotation they would consider it. She clearly didn't realise that my renewal was due 3 working days later so messing with copies of quotes etc just wasn't worth the hassle, I've paid the extra and gone elsewhere.

The service teams have to ask 3 items of data before they can start discussing a file with the person on the phone we use Date of Birth, Mobile and Email. Even if they are not on the file we would expect our staff to ask them.

Dan excuse me but that is a load of crap, how can you use two of three items of data to varify whom you are speaking to when you don't have them to refer to and cross check.

If you would not want them to be asked a note can be put on the file and 3 other questions such as postcode,Reg and make of car could be accepted.

I made it clear on several occasions when calling AF that I didn't want to make this information available to you, there is no need. I have provided my home mailing address and my home telephone number which are more than adequate means of communication for motor insurance purposes.

Just a note to say that l Adrian Flux are now a site sponsor and have an offer for Freedom members which is listed in the Freedom benefits section.

Another question for Dan - The offer mentioned by JohnD for Freedom members is for up to 15% off.

Can you please clarify under what circumstances the full 15% discount is given, and also how the discount is calculated for other circumstances.

I'd tell them about it after you've gotten a normal quote, tbh.... :thumbdwn:

We are able to offer up to 15% discount on policies for Freedom

Members and would welcome all members as we can cover

every conceivable Skoda and are happy to cover all modifications as

well as younger and convicted drivers.

This is very misleading. I spent a few minutes supplying my details, to be told that because of the nature of the insurance on my car at the moment, I have no no claims bonuses (I am not the "policyholder"). Therefore they wouldn't quote as they are not going to be competitive. The lady I spoke to (who was very polite) explained that the best sort of quote she could get me was £3500 ish.

So what happened to being able to cover young drivers? Why will Adrian Flux cover people with motoring convictions but not people with no no claims? Very annoying.

i imagine it the same reason you can get wildly different quotes for the same details and same car from different companies. everyone is different and some circumstances cant be dealt with competivley?

i still dont understand why i can get a quote of about 400 quid all the way to 2 grand for the same car, same details just different insurers! MADNESS!

Could you explain why, when I went to insure my car with AF, I got into an argument with the "lady" regarding the value of my car when she had asked how much I had paid for it??

I tried to explain the value of the car was what the car was worth and not what I had paid for it.

She could not get her head around this and just kept saying that it would be "unfair" to make a profit if I had an accident, like I was going to go out and smash the car up just to make a quick £1000.

I also got told by the "lady" that AF would pay either the market value or whatever I paid for it, depending on which was the lowest figure.

When I got my insurance sorted with Direct Line and explained it to him he said that the value of the vehicle is whatever the vehicle is worth, not what I had paid for it and he had never known an insurer to operate like that.

Also, do AF cover the replacement of the modifications should anything happen to the vehicle i.e. replacing aftermarket alloys if they get stolen or bodykits in the case of an accident??

I apologise if she can across as rude and sarcastic. Sometimes the insurers request to see the proof of the other quote before they will lower theirs which is why you were asked to provide it. You could of emailed it in to us and should of been told of this option again i apologise for this.

I shall be talking to the renewals manager and make sure his staff are reminded of this.

We get the Client Ref when answering the Call ask for the name of the client and who we are speaking to, then ask the 3 questions all of which have been gathered from the quote stage when setting up the policy.

Again i apologise for this we should of made a note on your file that you did not wish to be asked those questions.

it depends on each individual insurer as they don't all give 15% Some give 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 12% and 15% for example.

It's not just NCB that quotes are worked out on. There are a lot of varying factors such as Postcode, Use of Car, Occupation, Age, Claims statistics in your area.

If you would like me to look into it and see what the exact price was and why then please Pm me your details.

On the quote stage we have 2 sections about the cost of your car. One is the original price you purchased it for and the other is the Value of the car as you see it.

As for the pay out it is the insurer that decides the pay out after an accident. If the car is on an agreed value policy then the figure that is agreed is what is paid out.

We cover Mods on a like for like basis.

Thats not a problem because we can always add it after the quote for you.

Dan.

Just to say, even though Dan has been unable to find me insurance for the VRS he has tried his best and credit goes to him for spending time doing so :)

Sorry, but that it is not what I was told. I was told that the pay out "would be" the current market value or the amount I paid for it, whichever was the lesser. Even when I said "what if I had bought the car from a family member for £100" I was told that all I would get would be £100 NOT the market value as this would be unfair to the insurance company.

I could not bring myself to trust an insurance company that a. made such a statement and b. would argue with a potential customer (in a way that sounded exactly like my wife lol).

You either need to train the staff that deal with quotes or make clear EXACTLY what you are being insured for.

I was left with the impression that AF was a very amateur organisation which basically gave you the cover cheap but would not provide a good service in the event of a claim.

Sorry if this seems harsh but that is the impression I was left with.

No Need to apologise everyone is entitled to their opinions and i shall pass this feedback on to the quotes manager for them to see.

Hi,

We use the contact number's we have for our use only.

If i can have your surname and postcode and Email address then i can see what has happened to the quote and get it forwarded to you.

Well to add a bit of balance to this, I've been with Adrian Flux for 2 years now. The first quote I received from them on the Mondeo undercut the next best quote by some £250 with a lower excess, and more cover so was a no-brainer. When I switched to the Panda, I found a lower quote on the internet and AF spoke to their underwriters and beat the quote, as well as waiving the £25 admin fee.

Staff I've spoken to have all been friendly, polite and knowledgable and I've been pretty happy with the service I've received :D

However, I'm a fussy bugger and have a couple of gripes ;) Previous insurers have not had an admin fee and have just sent out updated paperwork FOC. Maybe they were bigger companies and could absorb the cost more easily. My other complaint is that there are numerous hoops to jump through to add named drivers to the policy. Previous insurers were happy to add people immediately based on me supplying their details over the phone whereas when I tried to add two people to my policy I was required to supply copies of their driving licences (both parts!) in addition to a few other bits of paperwork within 10 days. Sounds fairly reasonable but unfortunately the two named drivers live 50 and 500 miles away and one of the copies got lost in the postal system. On day 8 of the 10 I received a threatening letter telling me that the information I'd asked to provide had not been received and therefore my insurance policy would be rendered null and void if they did not receive it in the next two days  Now I can understand that being the case if I'd altered anything relating to me or the car but surely common sense should prevail and just revert the policy back to what it was without the additional named drivers?

Unfortunately being able to add/remove named drivers at short notice with minimal cost/fuss is important to me now and so I may be forced to look elsewhere come renewal time....

Chris
