Give it four gig ports and it'd be perfect. Not sure I'm going to part with my old netgear yet.

it has one gig uplink port.. its not as if gig is useful for internet anyway

Very pleased with this little fella so far. Yes it's expensive but so far has been 100% reliable.

SWMBO's VPN would crash our previous unit after anything from a couple of mins to an hour but now the connection remains constant all day. Connection via the wireless seems quick to establish.

I can't really discuss any of the perks of faster downloads etc as I'm stuck with a pi$$ poor 1mb - Thanks BT :grumpy:

anyone want to do an idiots guide into setting up the draytek to be secure as possible and how/what all the functions are for etc?

Unless you're right out in the sticks ask them to retrain your line.

It will go a bit mad for a few days but then should stabilise again.

I'm not right in the sticks but we only have 1mb from the exchange.

Even on ADSL Max

That's p*ss poor, I got 3Mb even 5 miles from the exchange :(

Yep, even on ADSL Max. I've tried asking BT when they plan to sort something out but no joy.

dont know if this will help at all VRStu, but do you plug your router directly into the BT master socket? And if so have you tried a different faceplate, as these have been shown to give a better sync at the exchange...

you see i use to have my router plugged into an extension and could barely achieve 1Mb (an old setup with juntion box upstairs, with droplink feeding it, down to a socket downstairs where the router was). Anyway, i change the junction box myself for a master (BT wanted £125 ), and plugged the router directly into the test socket, and hey presto 1.8Mbps constant...

and thats with a crappy line attenuation of 63dB

i think this is the filetred socket i'd heard about... XTE-2005 Filtered Master Faceplate - ADSL Nation

also look at the wiring in the house for the phone line, if its old then it might be worth re wiring it with a newer wire.

Thanks for your concern and help but I think you missed the point a little, 1mb is all there is!!

It's a brand new house on a brand new estate with all new cabling. I might gain a couple of extra kb's from getting the iPlate but not really signifiant I don't think.

We've just tested your line and can confirm your line supports the UK's most complete broadband package, BT Total Broadband. We estimate your maximum download speed to be 1.5 Mbps (Megabits per second).

The actual speed you get could be lower and is dependent on several factors such as whether you have any internal home wiring, our network management policy and the number of people using the Internet at the same time. Speeds are generally lower in the evening at peak times. You can find more information on all of these on bt.com/help.

Who are you using, just so I avoid them ;)

Very true, but my PC has 2 gig ports and my Dlink NAS one, so I currently have to connect the NAS to the spare gig port with a crossover cable. And I can't access it with my Eee. All I want is a gig switch with a built in ADSL modem and firewall. Oh and wireless. It's not much to ask is it?
