Subaru v Fabia VRS ??

Featured Replies

Hi guys.........

Im gettin rather high these days.....debating if I should go 4 a supermarket WRX Subaru or wait 4 my VRS .......having previously owned Subaru Im tempted very ...price is

There is only one Impreza, and that is the classic style :P Drove a bug eye WRX and was quite disappointed - I reckon a Fabia vRS chipped and with suspension and brakes done would be as quick as a Scooby in real world driving, plus you get the economy, stealth factor and cheap insurance :D Oh, and did I mention Subaru servicing costs

Chris

scooby runing costs would kill me.. and buck for bang the VRS is very good this is comming from a man who said he would never own a derv car... puts a smile on your face as standard...

Folkes belly laughed :D when I told them the VRS drives similar to my Scooby !! but the point is this........if you spend big bucks on the mods VRS then surly the WRX gets the thumbs up !

For its perfect drive in wet conditions when leathered - unlike the VRS.

However, you make perfect sense in what you say.....think of the

Iv'e got a Fab Vrs, Pot Herb  Have to agree with Scooby and doer1

Costs! That's it in a nutshell fellah.Think

What about the bling factor in a burbling WRX ??

Do you get blinged in VRS ??

I can't speak for the Furby, but I'm a big fan of the 'WTF is that' look on people's faces as I travel past, but then my Octy's not exactly subtle looks wise.

As was said on another popular forum (and Joel_vRS will know which one I'm talking about) 'Scooby's the new XR3i' and 'It's just that people round my way that used to drive RS Turbos now drive Imprezas'

Have to agree, now the Scooby's reasonably affordable, and with recent low interest rates, half the Nova brigade have upgraded to Imprezas now and the Barry boy mods are multiplying exponentially.

I reckon a Fabia vRS chipped and with suspension and brakes done would be as quick as a Scooby in real world driving,

nah,Scooby will batter it,but not by enough to warrant the massive additional running costs, which is where the Scoob falls down,it will cost at least a couple of grand a year more to run, almost 3k gross earnings

Ive still got my scooby:) and only now use it on the occasional weekend:( but when I do drive it it is another world from driving the furby. But after driving the scooby and emptying the full tank with-in half a day of brisk driving just for the sake of it:D im glad to get back nto the furby and drive back home. I probably save another

My Scooby (modded) was running 251bhp and about 175 at the wheels, due to transmission losses so a standard one will be running around 140-150bhp at the wheels. A chipped Furby will be running about 190bhp and will lose maybe 20bhp at the wheels. Couple with that, significantly more torque, you're looking at about the same real world performance. If the Scooby is chipped then it's another story...........

I'm not saying that the Scooby ain't a great car and it's very quick through corners and in all weathers, but I think you'd be surprised how fast a sorted vRS is ;) I know I was :D

Chris

Scoobies are great, sound fantasitc but the standard WRX is a little dissapointing IMHO as I was expecting a beast of a car when I test drove it but it was more of a pussy cat. The STi is a different kettle of fish but it's also alot more expensive. I would say ingear a chipped Fabia is going match the WRX performance. I have been told so many times the Scooby is very expensive to run where as the Fabia is cheaps as chips and as many people have said before the scooby you would look at but the Fabia vRS you would give it a second look.

Don't get me wrong the WRX is a nice car but running costs we be on my mind.

Looks like you guys are happy with the VRS ride.........and costs...........it makes sense especailly with the oil going up all the time !!!!! I am surprised of the overall power with a Jabba convert, but having said that I was never happy with the newer Scoobys from mine the older 1998 = It compares to the now STI.

Whats the highest mileage recoreded on a Fabia VRS ? and long term test results any info please would be appreciated. Thanks going back to my Pot (joke). See ya

Chris

its still fwd drive though.A classic with bumpsteer mods, decat and map will thrash a Fabia, from standing start ceratinly, maybe through the gears the Fabia might surprise a Scoob, but as i say, close enough to make the Fabia the better value car though.the newer fat ugly Scoobs deserve to be Fabia bashed though

I had a tuned Scoob, and the performance is was just incredible, cornering speeds would leave a Fabia well behind

I used to own an old school scooby and loved it to bits. It nearly cost me everything not just money. In two years I shelled out nearly

Des is right... :)

If your pinching on running costs... get a Fabia vRS..

if you want a fast car... buy ffelans Octy

Neo, do u remember the result of the fabia VRS against scooby on the tyred goat?? ;)

si

Scoob would muller the Fabia, trust me :D

As for it being better in the wet than FWD, disagree there sorry. Only advantage it has is traction, not necessarily grip.

was out in Neo's fab last night... and i think a std scoob would be troubled .....

a modded one may need my Octy to tech it a lesson but a stock one would be upset by a remapped furby..

I do indeed... i didnt think Scoobys were designed for off-road

Well, great thread, some excellent points.

IMO, your not really comparing like for like with these two. The subaru is in a different league. Not only in terms of power, but in terms of status, and running costs, the two couldn't be further apart!

I am not a fan of impreza's, there what my mates drive. I do not see the attraction. They spend
