CD-R Play Back. PLEASE HELP!!

Featured Replies

Im trying to play CD-R on my cars cd player. Its not working. I have a 2004 Fabia vRS with a standard symphony head unit. What do I do? I have converted the tracks to WMA and tested them on my pc. When I put them in it doesent work, no error message though just no sound.

Cheers,

Josh

Are you writing it as an audio cd or mp3 cd?

If its an mp3/ data cd it won't play as the symphony doesn't support it.

It will also depend on brand of cds and how you burned it, make sure the cds are a good brand, not necessarily the most expensive, but not the cheapest you can get, make sure that when you burn the cd it finalises and verifies OK, also try not to use cdrw if you can, some cd players dont like them. Test it in a normal CD player, not your pc, if it plays OK then its your HU is not compaitble for some reason, if not its the cd. burn at the slowest speeds, and as stated make sure you are burning a standard music CD, not mp3cd, music dvd, etc.

Good advice posted above, a good way to check it is to put it on a normal CD player (not a PC) and see if it works

Ok cheers guys. Going to try it again. Already wasted a pack od CD-R's. Think I may take it to the local audio specialists for an upgrade in the new year if this doesnt work.

If your using Windows Media Player to burn the CD's try using NERO burner instead, and make sure you select the 'Finalize CD' option before burning.

Does the Symphony play MP3 at all? Just took mine out after 5 years and if it did I never new about it :P

The Octy MP3 player only plays MP3 files and not WMA. You may wish to try that, though if its not supported.....

There is an MP3 version of the Symphony CD player (fitted one to my car last week), was fitted in some Superb's not sure if it came in the Octavia though.

the only things i can think of is if you trying to make an audio cd that its not being finalized, if its an mp3 cd that the player doesnt play mp3 cds.

Your unit almost cetrtainly does not support CD+-r as it was not standard untill late 2006/7

Its not quite that simple. Support and Standardising something doesnt mean it didnt work until then. My (and every car cd player Ive had) accepts a properly burnt CD-R as a viable CD and they are years older than 2006/2007. I wouldnt get any tech support for these CDs but for most CD players, they seem to be close enough to be acceptable. Indeed I have had normal CD players from 88/89 that play CD-R's. But again I have had other newer players that dont support them (but this has been the very odd one here or there).

I would say the units 99% work with CD-Rs, its just a case of getting the right combination of media and burning sequence.

It more seems to be CD-RWs that dont work. And in my experience arent worth the extra hassle as CD-Rs are dirt cheap atm.

The best thing would be to ask someone with the same HU. I would be surprised if you were the only one with that HU trying to burn cds :S
