Looking to get a Fabia vRS...

Featured Replies

My friend recently bought a lovely example of a Fabia vRS and he told me about these wonderful forums.

He kindly let me have a go in it last night and the little thing really surprised me. Spinning up in 3rd with standard power.

He was explaining how easy it is to reach 185bhp and his plans, and it just seems to make so much sense... We were absolutely ragging the poor little thing, and after 30 miles we were averaging over 44 miles per gallon... Incredible!

I'm told the MPG actually gets better after a re-map. Is this true? Is it possible to get 180bhp after a re-map, and see better MPG figures?

I used to have an 07 plate Octavia as a work car, and even that was a hoot to drive -- I think that's a big reason why my friend bought the Fabia. The Skoda quality really is superb, and we used to enjoy driving that... We even took it up to the Cat & Fiddle to take it around some twisties last year (we live in London, so quite a distance!).

I know this sounds silly, but I love dump valves. I'd really like one on my vRS, but my friend tells me you guys say it's a big no-no. Why is this? I've been told that there's pluses and minuses for dump valves on all cars, even petrol -- are the negative factors really that bad? I know I won't get any performance gains, but I love the noise so much, and it'd make the vRS even more special to me.

Cheers for reading, and looking forward to your views!

Droool !

Lovely bike Mr !

Dont think a Fabia is gonna keep up with that ! :D

Yeah, I know that, but I find quick (ish) cars equally as fun to drive. I think a 190bhp vRS would really suit me, and from what I can tell, it's very achievable! Cheers mate!

Yes 180 BHP is possible with a good remap, but make sure it's done by someone like Jabbasport or one of the other known good tuners, so that the map is sensible and won't wreck the clutch or duel mass flywheel. I left my VRS standard (still under warranty) and it's staying that way.

IMO you will also need the bigger brakes modification, Cupra consule bushes, rear ARB, lowering kit, and an understanding insurance company.

Get rid of the EGR valve, exhaust CAT and run rear box custom exhaust.

I would also fit SMF and organic clutch, but that will cause niosy gear chatter at idle. Replacing the diff to carrier rivets with the proper bolt kit is another good idea.

Or you could go for a modest power increase with an ecconomy remap. A bit more power and more MPG.

If you get a later VRS with the BLT engine, you will probably find it's putting out 140BHP as standard.

Thanks -- that's helpful. The only thing I'd disagree with are the brakes. They seriously impressed me tonight, and I see no reason why you'd need anything more than that. They didn't fade even after a hard session, and genuinely felt bloody superb. There's not a must really, so I'll be able to tell whether I need those or not.

I'd want Octavia vRS wheels, and to lower it 30mm.

Any advice regarding the dump valve?

Dumpvalve upsides - None

Dumpvalve downsides -

1- Its £300 by the time you have it on and working, thats if you fit it yourself.

2- You will look and sound a tool when it goes off, as it is so obviously electronic.

3- No one on here will ever speak to you again.

It's electronic?

never seen over 180bhp on a trusted rr,i have a jabba map on mine and the brief to micheal was give it evething result 176bhp and 346ft lbs,BUT my turbo is at the absolute limit and is slowly dieing, and the standard clutch won't last long at over 300ft lbs so torque will have to be pegged under this, the brakes don't cope well when used hard, the suspension is woeful, and if you boot it nder 2000rpm the dmf won't last long, the upside is spec do a nice litle clutch and lightwieght smf that will enable you to boot it from any where inthe rev range, the brakes from the audi tt/s3/octy vrs etc bolt staight on,kw do a nice little coilover package and a peloqun atb diff is a must mod for the more afluent vrs owner.

Yep, i would say 180 from a remap is optimistic.

Even though i've got a RR printout from mine showing 183, i have others that show 165 :D

As for dump valves, do a little search, that will give you the reasons why electronic. (basically cos i cant remember :D )

The dump valves on diesels are a gimmick. They don't need one as they serve no purpose other than to make a noise.

The diesle engine works differently to petrol engines, so where a petrol engine comes with a dump valve as standard, thats because it won't run well without them, and the same for a diesel, it wasn't fitted as it isn't needed.

The vRS is a great little pocket rocket and with a good smooth remap its capable of showing up some of the big boys, but don't dismiss the need for new brakes. The standard setup isn't that great on a standard vRS, and with extra poser from the map its worth spending money on stopping it a bit quicker too. If you haven't had brake fade in one yet, trust me you will and then you will be looking on here for advice on brakes ;)

Nice Bike mate, Mines a GSXR 750

As for mpg increases, yes if you drive like miss daisy it will be more economical after a remap. But if you still give it 100% economy will be worse. :)

Whats the story with the front wheel, looks like you have a fork leg missing....

Mines a Fazer 1000 BTW.

come on ladyboys lets not turn a perfectly good fabia vrs thread into a leather wearing homo bike riding love fest;)

Yep. A petrol turbo has a dump valve to dump the pressure when the throttle is snapped shut. A diesel has no throttle valve, so a dump valve is pointless, so the only thing you can fit is one of those ****e electronic jobs that just make a noise.

Listen to this one....

Sounds like a ratchet spinning around.

That's pretty funny.

A dump valve on a diesel is just anal  Your own dump valve will cut in when the standard brakes fade after a remap, brown trouser moment. Don't forget tuning can get expensive. As a biker you will know that you eventually get used to the power, and will be looking for more.

I love my bog standard VRS. For the money it's a lot of kit (Limited Edition Version), is fairly quiet for a diesel, and has excellent economy if driven fairly sensibly. That's when you notice the power on tap. You see the blue rinse driver in the Nissan Micra, wait for a small gap, drop into 3rd, and kaboom, instant grin factor.

I've been around cars for longer than I care to admit, and if I tuned my VRS I would be looking to spend at least 4K to do it right.

Cheap dump valve, roll the window down and use a whistle

a guy told me he had 194bhp on standard turbo and clutch... and could smoke type r's oh how i laughed...

Im running 173.5 bhp

I See now why you went all the way to the Cat & Fiddle :D

Although im sure there must be something similar nearer to you ??

Oh cool... I saw you post in another thread saying about your 130bhp R6.

I asked how you managed to get an extra 35bhp out of your R6, but it got deleted.

I've spent over grand tuning mine, and I've only seen 105bhp at the rear wheel.

Cheers -- something I've learnt. I do not want a dump valve unless it's actually for a purpose. I certainly don't want a speaker under my bonnet!

Mines a Fazer 1000 BTW.

The front wheel is just resting against the bike -- I had just collected them freshly from the powder coaters.
