Beware warranty work refused!

Featured Replies

As the more 'senior' members know, I thought very long and hard before modifying my car and, having done so, I probably drive it like a Granny so the risk of related component failure is minimal. My feeling is that a significant number of dealers will probably not quibble at warranty work unconnected with mods - and some might even go further. Jon, who had one of the highest mileage and most modded Octavias on Briskoda, even had warranty work sanctioned by Skoda UK on a gearbox which failed at over 100,000 miles IIRC. So it isn't all black and white. But it definitely does help to have a good working relationship with a good dealer - and they are out there.

And of course talking about it here may not help..sadly :(

it is down to the individual dealer. i had an heavily modified 206 hdi, intercooler fitted, chipped and a tuning box and 1 dealer even repaired a problem with my aircon pipe directly caused by modding. another dealer opened the bonnet looked at the intercooler pipes and refused to work on it! so choose your dealer carefully if you intend modding.

Tom.

A bit rich coming from a man who bought a Superb...

:D

Thanks geoff I couldn't have put it better myself.

Hence the reason for getting rid. ;)

I don't know if you remember but i had warranty work carried out on my car. the dual action flywheel broke. well they put it all back together again but it was still making a noise. i reported it and they said they would have to get it back in..... anyway i have just been to drop it off at HL.GORNER warrington. the guy behind the desk said that you are aware that there could be a cost to yourself! i told him it was a warranty claim. he said that if there was a fault that wasn't a manufacturing fault then i would have to pay! i told him i have been buying cars to teach peple how to drive for 18 years and have never had a problem with warranty work before. also they wouldn't cover my clutch pedal rubber so i would have to fork out for one myself at a cost of

Can someone clarify something for me..

Will a One-Click work on any car of a similar type, or is it coded for a Specific ECU ?

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Unfortunately, this is one of those occasions where you'll probably have to take it on the chin. I had problems with my clutch (unmodified car) and had to get a new one fitted. (cost about

bad news anotherbadname. I'm sure one of the guys at that skoda garage mention your car when I was having my engine mount sorted. Can't you ask for a full report from skoda UK about the problem and see if they blame the fault on the Oneclick?

Just like to that I also have almost had warrenty work refused...on a standard car. My engine mount problem a garage tried to blame on my driving style:finger: .

Tom, you do seen to have a rogue motor, and the dealer is only toeing the party line. But dont let this put you off, the vrs is a bit exotic for driving schooland some dealers take a much more pragmatic view of modding and driving school cars. The TDI in either 1.9 or 1.4 is a much better option and more durable. My dealer and me have a sensible arrangment that if its down to the drving school work, and he knew it was being used for this when I bought it, he will honour the warrenty. Anything down to the mods is my responsibility. Simple. Hence the clutch pedal he would do, the flywheel he would have down as the two are probablely related. Change dealers, try mitchells on the wirral.

What mods I haven't got any!

I know that my dealer reads this but lucky for me (I think) he doesn't know my user name on here.

He told me about briskoda when I went to get the car. I did say I has already joined but did not go any further than that.

It's all down to what the dealers have to prove to Skoda the dealer doesn't make the warranty decision at the end of the day. Little things they do as skoda pays out without a any questions but if it's a bigger job they would have to get it authorised from Skoda UK before they can go ahead with it.

It's a fine line with mods. My view is if the failure of said item was not linked in anyway to the modified item installed on the car them said item needs to be replaced under warranty BUT ..... an example that is not so clear cut could arise from this example...

You have your car lowered and the wheel bearings go.

In your mind the wheel bearings have nothing to do with lowering the car.

In the mind of the dealer he could say the lowered car has a lot stiffer suspension thus causing the suspension not to soaking up the bumps on the road more efficiently and thus excreting more pressure on the wheel bearings, which in time would cause wheel bearing failure.

The dealers will try and distance themselves from any warranty work if you car is moded. Like I said before you pay your money and you take you chances.

I have asked AMD about this 2 weeks ago as a member had one for sale they said that it will be ok as its from the same model but you have to pay

Huh? Hang on. It's Skoda's fault that AmD's device has to be reprogrammed at a cost of

Umm Howard..

I think he means the manufacturer of the One-Click, which AFAIK is not AmD ;)

OK, now I'm even more confused - why would you ask someone who didn't manufacture said device?

I'll get my coat.....

Because someone else manufactures the device, then AMD resell them, possibly?

Pay attention young Fen..

AmD sold the One-Click but didn't actually make it...

Therefore, if he was to purchase a used One-Click, he would need to approach AmD, who would then need to send it back to the manufacturer for re-coding...

He could of course approach the manufacturer direct...

All clear now ? :)
