Tough call on warranty stuff.

Yes, I had my gearbox done at 120k miles, along with the front seats. I did however have to provide a full list of all mods done to the car to Skoda Warranty before they would authorise. Yes, I even listed the magic tree air freshener

Had to buy a new engine earlier though as I was, IMHO, stitched up by the garage who blamed the engine failure on the mods, incorrectly as it turns out it was the MAF that was FUBAR.

My advice? Change dealer. There are plenty out there who will be sympathetic to your claim, no doubt brought on by having learners in it rather than the mods. Mods are excluded, I don't think driving schools are.

oh and dont AMD have to put the map on?

I think not ;)

I DMS are another disti for the product.. they want 495... + vat for a new one. I think the unit comes blank and you need to load the map on after

Because someone else manufactures the device' date=' then AMD resell them, possibly?

I did say, I'd get my coat.... :D

Pay attention young Fen..

AmD sold the One-Click but didn't actually make it...

Therefore' date=' if he was to purchase a used One-Click, he would need to approach AmD, who would then need to send it back to the manufacturer for re-coding...

He could of course approach the manufacturer direct...

All clear now ? :)[/quote']

Yes, Obi Wan Chimp Choker....

The units are made by milford micro systems, and distributed by DMS Automotive. We are agents for them, under the name Dual System.

There is no way they can trace the re-mapping of the ECU as all the standard info is transfered back onto the ECU.

Did you have a custom map on yours Tom? and not the normal 172 bhp map?

At the end of the day - the car WAS modified, it's a chance you take ;)

The choice is yours -- you buy a new car so that it comes with warranty - if this is important to you - especially if its for your business - why chance losing the warranty by tuning it ????

When I bought my octavia - I decided that my quest to have MY CAR just the way I wanted was worth the gamble - being in the trade it wasnt too much of a worry.

But you can't expect Skoda to warrant a component that will be put under extreme stresses - not only as a learner vehicle, but also modified. They have quite rightly warned you at the outset that unless it is manufacter defect that the warranty will not cover it - this would apply for such a component - even if the car wasnt used for driver instruction and wasn't modified. Imagine if they had taken the car from you, stripped it down and then told you it wasnt covered - how would you feel then ??? your car off the road and your business at risk - personally I cannot see they have done any wrong, indeed some manufacterers would have voided your warranty on the spot.

If you think other makes would be different - go ahead buy another brand - modify it and then see if they will honour the warranty - I strongly suspect they won't.

OK, couple of points...

1. I thought if the one click was new for your car, when you set it back to original spec it removed all trace? If this is not true, what would be the indicators by which the dealer could spot it's been done and then undone again?

2. If they can't trace it, then they certainly can see it on places like this website - glad I haven't done on my car now, bearing in mind I know my the manager at my dealership was going through my recent posts TODAY!!! Broadcasting mods on the internet is not the best way of keeping them hidden.

3. The point about lowering cars and wheel bearings - lowering your car, or fitting wider rims, does tend to exert higher forces on the wheel bearings when cornering hard or going over bumps - so those mods could be considered directly related to the fault! :P
