Fabia Door Leak - 2 garage trips & still not fixed!

Hi

Our Skoda Fabia started to leak, passenger rear side door we thought. Took it to the dealership (Skoda, and they have worked without charge even though it's out of warranty) to get fixed, they re-sealed. Problem still happened, so took it back again a couple of days ago, they re-sealed again with a different sealant and dried the carpet out.

Today (day after collecting it!) it's back again!! At a loss.... any suggestions?? Will be taking back to garage tomorrow, but wondered if anyone has any ideas??!!

Have sealed all mine up myself and haven't had any issues since. Unless they're making a hash of sealing it i'm not sure what could be going wrong as its not rocket science.

Could try checking up on them? Loosening the door cards enough to have a look should be fairly easy... is a few screws, window winder handle then lever the trim off. Plenty of info on here or the link here:

Granted you shouldn't have to though, hopefully they'll be able to get to the bottom of it!

If it's not the well known internal rear door seal perhaps it's the rubber seal around the door opening? Or maybe its getting in through the rear light seal and running forward?

ive done my OSR door carrier 3 times now and its back again

you sure its leaking from the same place brun? Maybe you should take the door card off, then drown the door in water and watch for where it may be coming from?

i found the spot last time and it went for a couple of months but the last week or so its back again

I sealed mine last year with some Homebase All puropse Silicone sealant and had no leaks as of yet! I did go crazy with the stuff though but may as well.

I used this:

Wickes  – Adhesives & Sealants – Sealants – Specialist Sealants – Roof & Gutter Sealant

One tube is enough to do all 4 doors with plenty left over! (the rubber strips on both my fronts were wet so i did em all) Don't forget to get a gun thing to squeeze it if ya don't have one.

To the OP: The rear washer hose runs along the passenger side and there is a joint somewhere aound the rear wheel arch which can seperate and wet the carpet in the rear footwell.

Does the rear washer work and has it got a good jet of water?

Sealed my rear doors early this year and they havent leaked since

The front ones were done when the car was in for its end of warrenty check even though they wernt even leaking so they should be alrite for a good while yet before they/if they leak.

In our loverly summer weather my NSR has started leaking again !

Don't want it to spoil me leather so it needs fixing again PDQ !

i resealed mine and it still leaked so after enquiring with skoda they told me the design of the carrier had changed to incorporate a better seal, so one new carrier later and its all fixed touch wood!

Just thought I'd bump this rather than starting a new topic. After several bodged attempts by the dealer I've been taking matters into my own hand now that Autumn is upon us and I've noticed more damp and steaming up in the car.

Thought I'd show you the lovely attempt the dealer did of sealing last time...

Not surprised I'm still getting wet carpet!

lol thats ****e, they have applied the sealant yes, but not smoothed it off at all, no wonder its leaking !

lol that is the crappest attempt at sealing anything I've ever seen. I can't believe they sealed one of the nuts too haha!

Should see mine, I plastered the stuff on it and smoothed it over 2-3 times to make sure. After all, if its not a complete seal its just a messy waste of time!

TomH if you paid for that to be done, take photos and go back to them. Thats ridiculous!

I didn't pay, it was warranty the first time, then free the second and third times as it wasn't fixed. Wished I'd done it myself sooner!

Rain is forecast later - I don't know whether to try and keep the car out of it somehow or whether the silicone sealant will have dried enough since yesterday afternoon.

I've tried fixing the problem from the outside, i.e put some sealent on the outer door seals to try stop the water getting in rather than stopping it leaking into the car from the inner seal.

Expecting heavy rain this week, so will update the post on whether the water stays out or whether I have a wet footwell again!

Well still P-ing in so must be the door seal which has perished, but a new one is £19.29! anybody figured out how to stop the water actually getting in?

Yeah, it hasn't rained properly since I did mine so the test will be this week!

A couple of the door clips did not appear to have black washers on while the rest did - does water come through the holes where the door card attatches too?

If the washers are missing from the lower clips then it is a possibility, as the nub of the problem is that the bottom of the door fills with water, and can't drain fast enough from the drain holes underneath, and then gets passed the carrier seal and then runs down the inside of the door between the metal and the door card, into the car, rather than onto the sill, on the outside of the rubber door seal.

They're right on the edge, where the outer door and inner door metals meet. Sure there 2-3 oval shaped holes along there per door

Did this on my leon cupra r last year and No leaks at all. the picture shows that they run the sealent around without lifting the carrier away very poor job as you expect from garages/dealers!!!

All you got to do is take out all the bolts around the carrier apart from the top row pull the carrier away carefully clean the contact area with solvent and put a big bead off clear silicone sealant in between the seal and the door and bolt it back up with the sealent still wet. Wipe away excess and let dry.

Easy job and no leaks!!!
