A Fox is a citycar (like a Smart For2, C1, Ka), the Polo/Fabia/Ibiza/Clio/Corsa etc etc are super-minis :)

Got in Candy White. I think it will be a little more head turing.

It's like this but with better headlights and breaks:

I would have chosen the Bocanegra-only dark-metalic red, but they are nice in white!

Needs more low, though ;)

Wow it does look like it's on stilts still.

Yeah its really bad. Will be getting some -40mm eibach springs fitted before I get the car picked up. Will drop them into the dealership before its delivered. (depending on price) Otherwise i'll get them done at Awesome.

So.... have you got plans to lower it, because that looks like it's heading for the hills! Or were the chocks still in at the showroom do we think?

Steve

Bring it along the the rolling road meet at Awesome, early next year :)

They say Jan next year for delivery but yeah I'll come down to that one or possibly the next if it doesn't arrive in time. Wanna see what its putting out standard. Will be talking to them about an APR remap. Quite fancy 200odd BHP in a car which weighs less than my current one :)

As per my above post yeah its getting lowered ASAP. I think -40mm will be fine. That one had no miles on it. The FR I drove looked a lot lower.

Bloke on cupra.net has his already in red (still looks high):

Stop using their classifications you! ;)

Just run the name through your head, then look at the size of it. Not very mini is it? And especially not super mini :D

Nope, but that's the class it falls into!

Nice pics of the Ibiza. I think it looks a very promising package.

I sent a message to Skoda UK today and asked when the VRS was likely to be released for sale. A very nice chap rang me back within half an hour and told me it was likely to be September 2010!

Heck, I wasn't planning on waiting that long!

Looks like I'll be looking at the Ibiza a little closer after all.

Only thing is Skoda's customer service is a lot more prompt than Seat's.

Im not sure really about the ibiza, i saw one parked up at work today, granted it wasnt an fr/cupra/boc but it was the sc sport. And i was kinda mixed about its looks. Maybe it needs to be in the right colour :(

Will people stop randomly speculating FFS, my crystal ball says it will be August

QUOTE OF THE YEAR "DSG IS A WASTE OF TIME!"

Mate if you only knew. I would really look into that. I watched a japenese video of the drift king (cant rember his name) attempt to beat a DSG GOLF GTi with a Manual GOLF GTI. He is one of the smoothest and fastest gear swoppers in the world. And altho the DSG adds extra weight. It simply DESTROYED!! The manual. Its not as involved to work with. But as a method of going from A-B quickly there is no doubt in my mind that the DSG is the daddy. People who think otherwise are uneducated on the matter. Its FASTER! End OF!

Hmm I think I said DSG is a waste of time in a small hatch. Which it is. If you want to drive an automatic, buy an estate. If you want to criticise feel free to do so, just don't misquote me to support your own pretty weak argument.

Hot hatches were initially designed to give a good driving experience at a bargain price. Hence the MkI Golf Gti. The circa £18,000 for an Ibiza is somewhat removed from the origins of a hot hatch. Putting a turbo and supercharger, and then DSG, into a small warm hatch moves it further away from what's it's supposed to be.

And I get back to what I said much earlier - an Ibiza for 18 grand, or an A3 1.8TFSi? Or maybe £19K for a golf 1.4 TSi 160? Jeez I've been offered a C30 T5 for 19 grand, there's no way I'd buy an Ibiza for anything approaching that kind of money.

It's marginally faster in a straight line. But it's not driving as I know and like it. I had the opportunity of buying a DSG on my current car (Leon FR TFSI) and it was a really good price. On paper it was better and I really wanted to love it but I couldn't. The manual I drove the day before felt so much more involved. Shifting down into a corner to pick up revs and leaning over the gearstick. All were missing. Add to that the fact that you don't have complete control over the gears all the time even in manual mode as it takes over in certain situations. Well, it wasn't for me.

Maybe soon all cars will be DSG or some equivalent so the way I see it now is the time to get a manual and enjoy the gearbox's final breath.

I see your point but.. the A3 and Golf would be nowhere near the same spec (toy wise) as the Ibiza Cupra at an 18k price point. There is always something out there which is better or cheaper. For me the Cupra ticks all the right box's. Good performance, low running costs and a head turner. I can afford the £60 extra a month this car will cost me over my current, so why not. Dont want to be driving round in some boring old standard spec golf or Audi anyways, i'm 24!

Oh and for those saying the Clio 200 is better.. We’ll it is, but read the reviews and watch the video’s of the two on this website. The DSG seems to be working very well to me??

Clio - 1.44.29

Cupra - 1.44.69

So yeah the clio is faster... by 0.00.40!!!! Oooh Bet the seat sport breaks and a remap will see that off no worries :)

I don't see the speculation in quoting exactly what a representative from Skoda actually said.

Go on then Mardon, I'll have that, I'm running into middle age now and my needs have changed a bit.

If I was 24 I'd I'd stuff all this rubbish about DSG/proper gearbox and ignore Golf/A3/C30 (as if, it's a volvo) and get the Ibiza because it looks better.

It does look nice. TBH the turning point for me was the fuel and tax. I often do 100 miles a day. So for my 18K I could have got a Civic type R or Focus ST but.. they can't get the same mileage. I tested the FR and was easily getting the Stated 45mpg on a motorway. The fact the 85 miles of my daily trip are motorway also will defiantly help matters.

From watching the YouTube and the Car Magazine video's of the Cupra on track it does seem to handle and perform better than I was actually expecting.

Wow good website! My Dad will love that for all his nostalgic stories he loves to tell :)

Nice idea Babs, but I believe the Mk1 was £3700 at launch, and the inflation website you have used looks totally inaccurate to me.

Go here, it should be a bit more accurate ->

Bank of England|Education|Inflation|Inflation Calculator

And that gives us £19,960 up to 2008, plus another 2% is round about £20,400. And that was so good it destroyed the market for other affordable sports cars.

Hmm though I knew I'd seen that paper before Babs it was a paper for the Office for National Statistics, so which one of the official sources should we go with????

Thank you for that link. I have just worked out that my old Metro would be now worth £9,300 in today's money. That is a similar price that I bought my Furby for in 2006. My Granddad bought it for £3,200 in 1981 (I have the original receipt dated 8th May 1981). I also noticed that VAT was at 15% back then.

Yes, I know we are going a bit :offtopic:

Still £20,000 is (roughly) the cost of the latest Golf GTI, so what's the issue?

Nah a half decent spec mkVI Gold GTi is around 26k!! The base GTi with no extra's is more than the new scirocco at 24k! I think VAG group cars are just getting more expensive.

Jesus H Mother-Trucking Christ!!

When did VW had over three grand to the price of a base-spec GTI!?
