Confused about cambelts.

Featured Replies

Confused....

Service schedule QG0 in the service book states change the belt at 75K miles (120,000KM). No mention of age related replacement.

Though it's apparently common knowledge that cambelts are due at 60K miles or 4 years.

VAG revised the advice, apparently following quite frequent failure on lower mileage vehicles, in years 5 & 6.

The advice from dealers still seems to differ, but I'd stick to 60k/4yr (whichever comes sooner).

Spoke to a few VAG specialists and as Wardy says 60k or 4 years, whichever comes sooner.

You sometimes get the 80k/4yr info out of dealers, but on the time limit, the 4yr is fairly uniformly broadcasted these days in my experience.

I'm not sure if my 53 plate VRS has had one yet. Its only done 39k but obviously 6 years old now.

my 05 plate was deffinately 80k or 4 years (and I ran it to 79k before selling) my dealer confirmed this, and thats what my handbook said too, however MOST Vrs's have 60k or 4 years....

I would seriously look into getting it changed sooner rather than later. 6 years is well into the rubber perishing/degradation period...

Appreciate yours is low mileage, but it's because of scenarios like yours that VAG introduced a lower age limit on them.

the last letter i had from skoda was stating 60K or 6 years. but had mine done at 50K and 90K before the Hybrid.

The 80k is Kilometers not miles (60K MILES) AIUI

My work confirmed after i argued with them to get mines done as part of the deal of my buying the car that it wasn't due at 60k or 4 years till they phoned Skoda and they politely informed them it was so as a result my 05 Fabia VRS had it's cambelt changed at 34k

just had mine done at 48000 miles,

its a 55 reg

£240 all in:thumbup:,

not bad compared with skoda, they want £450:thumbdwn:

Did that include changing the water pump. Even if it didn't that's a good price.

60K or 4 years is definatey the updated belt change interval, we strongly recommend the water pump is replaced at the same time, as the plastic impeller is prone to failure,

good price there for the cambelt!.... my fiats 90k service is comming up which is my cambelt change, (and my water pump is fine ;) ) can any "partners" beat my best quote so far for the full 90k service all in which is £500.... cambelt kit has to come from fiat, but the rest can be pattern part, proper oil of course though....
