Anyone managed to insure a 2.0T FSI with MORE TH>N

Recommended Posts

I'm picking up my brand new Black hatchback Petrol FL VRS on Friday.

However I'm having a lot of issues with MORE TH>N trying to get it insured.

I've spoken to 2 call centre muppets earlier this week who were about as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

The issue seems to stem from them not having 2.0 TFSI on their database, the bloke I spoke to last night (twice) as he cut me off first time round, was adamanat that it must be a TDI as that's all that was on their database and then he told me he'd managed to sort it, but I wasn't convinced as he gave me the engine capacity for a TDI over the phone.

I rang them back this morning as no paperwork and got a helpful lady, who told me that the details hadn't been processed (despite charging me a 15 quid admin charge) but she couldn't find the 2.0T FSI on the database either. She is looking into it for me and is going to get back to me later today.

My question is this : If anyone on here has got a policy with MORE TH>N and has managed to insure a 2.0T FSI with them can you please tell me what it says on your policy the vehicle is, so I can pass this on to them and hopefully get the right car selected from their DB.

Fortunately the dealer has been understanding and helpful in all this and has pointed me in the direction of Skoda Insurance 7 day free temporary cover so that I can still drive away in it on Friday, but I need it sorting out longer term, also I would rather have the MORE TH>N cover as the excesses are lower.

Personally I would just say 2.0 litre Petrol vRS.

If they asked me for a horsepower value to confirm then that would be even more accurate.

How the injection system achieves that is quite possibly irrelevant. :wonder:

Just go somewhere else. Cancel More 'trouble' Than 'it's worth' and go with Adrian Flux or someone.

Probably be cheaper in the long run anyway, even with cancellation fee

Im with More Than at the moment .All i had to do was give them the reg number of my car and they found the model they were looking for . i think on my policy details it has 2.0 turbo instead of TFSI . So far i have not had any problems with them and they also beat my nearest quote by £150 .

I'm probably going to go with Admiral as their multiquote is cheapest for the 2 cars in the house. One funny thing I noticed when doing the online form was that it was cheaper for my wife to be on there with her provisional licence than not at all, and also cheaper to say the car was on the street overnight than in the garage!!

I'm with MoreThan, unfortunately the majority of the call centre staff are muppets. As already mentioned just tell them its a 2 litre petrol, octavia vrs. They insured my petrol vrs and now my diesel vrs with no problems. Although it is a bit of pot luck if you get someone who understands/speaks a decent level of english.

I think i'm with More Than. Was with Hastings Direct but they wouldnt insure the new car, so More than were by far the cheapest. The only gripe i've had with them was that they state that new customers get 10% discount, whereas as a renewing customer i get 20% discount. When you do a confused.com quote and see that a new customer (even with only 10% discount) gets it about a quid cheaper than the higher discounted renewer, they actually try to justify it, rather than just admitting it's all bull.

Mine isnt a FL VRS though, so they just found it straight away (TFSi)

Thanks for the reply guys.

Finally got it sorted yesterday with the assistance of a really helpful lady from their UK call centre, who didn't cut me off and called back when promised unlike the guys the night before.

The moral of the story is call during UK Office hours and you might get someone who knows what they are doing.

Just in case anyone else has the same problem it is a Skoda Octavia VRS on their system. (no TFSI, T, TSI or TDI)

Its quite easy to fall foul of the call centre system, here is a rough transcript of the call I had with the muppet earlier on in the week.:

Me : Hi I'm getting a new car and I'd like to update my policy.

CC: Can you give me your policy number, date of birth etc,,,,,,

CC: What is the registration number of the new vehicle.

Me : **59***

CC: The computer doesn't seem to be bringing up any details are you sure you have the right reg #.

Me: Its a brand new car so it probably won't show up on your system yet.

CC: Oh, not sure what to do about that, just putting you on hold while I check with someone

7 Minutes Later....

CC: Hi, sorry for keeping you on hold, can you give me the make of the car.

Me: Skoda

CC: And the model sir?

Me: Octavia VRS Petrol

CC: I can't find that exact car sir on our system is it:

VRS TDi CR, VRS LE TDi, VRS LE, 4x4..

Me: (looks at Octy brochure at engine details) its a TFSI. [This was the fatal mistake]

CC: Can't find that sir are you sure you don't mean TDI.

Me: No its a petrol,

CC:that isn't on my system I'll have to check with someone, do you mind if I put you on hold.

10 Mins Later....

CC: Thankyou for holding, I still can't identify the car sir, I'll have to check with our grouping specialist. I may have to call you back. Are you definitely sure its not a TDi.

Me: Yes its not a TDI its Petrol. (I think I was sounding a little ****ed off at this point)

CC: I'm just going to put you on hold while I check something,

10 Mins Later

Click.............................

The Fl doesn't have a TFSI engine, try asking the to check for a 2.0 TSI engine.

This is quite interesting as the new Skoda Octavia brochure says the engine is T FSI in the data section at the back. This is definitely the latest brochure as it mentions that the VRS has XDS I guess the brochure has been printed wrong.

I think I will be looking elsewhere for insurance at the end of March when it comes up for renewal.

More than is a real hit and miss situation with their call centres. I insure my car with them because the quote was right, although if you have a Columbus system as an optional extra they baulked at the level of cover for ICE.

My son insured his Golf through Flux and they are really on the ball (and in Britain!!)

I always ask them how the weather is with them to get a clue where they are!!

Some foreign call center workers are coached to speak in a local dialect, brush up on UK News and Weather and can be 'assigned' an English sounding name.

In a word, they sometimes pretend to be where they are not.

I dont think your investigative skills are foolproof.

FWIW I /was/ insured with Admiral and am now Insured with Bell. They are one and the same really, I wish I had known that before I switched.

Also - the whole 'modified car' thing. Since when did factory fit extra's be classified as modifications? I had a bit of a short circuit with Admiral over the fact a 1/2 leather interior bumped my premium ("it's more desirable to a theif"), curtain airbags were the same. I gave up at the point of telling them about the VBF.

It strikes me as bizzare that:

a) there is no mechanism to specify these things when quoting and buying on the internet.

B) if insuring a second hand car, how is anyone supposed to know what was base equipment and what was a FF option?

To me, a modification is a an aftermarket or (possibly) dealer fit thing.

But then i didnt dare ask about my rubber mats either.

I used to be insured with More Thief as did my Fiancee.

However when we got our renewal quotes (and before i did all the tuning) the next years premium was more expensive.

Went online to check and if i took out a brand new policy as a new customer it was £80 cheaper. So i phoned them and told them this and they said im not eligible for New member discounts.

I pointed out that i was supposed to get more discount for staying with them as per their advert and was told that the discount was applied.

So i politely told them where to stick the policy and went with Adrian Flux.

With all mods declared my Policy is £30 cheaper than the quote for a new member with the £80 off so all in all i saved £110 and have like for like mods covered

More Than were giving me the cheapest quotes recently but weren't getting good reviews so went with One Call although they have a 'Legal' upgrade over the quote when phoning. I asked for the quote without the upgrade but the paperwork came with the upgrade. They almost convinced me I'd agreed to it, but my memory is not completely shot and I had a notepad note of the quote figure, so I got them to refund the difference but it took 2 phone calls to sort out, so not thrilled with One Call so far. You do get included roadside assistance but I have Skoda Assist ATM, so don't need it and couldn't get it dropped for a further discount.

I've certainly been quoted by MoreThan but I normally go through the internet before I'll call so I just need to give them a quote number.

Wife and I have been with ESure for quite a number of years. The renewal is always a joke but if you go through a comparison site and give them the quote ref they'll give you the lower price without arguing. Call centre seems to be in Glasgow which save a lot of hassle over phoning downtown Mumbai.

My wie is the main driver on the vRS and she's with MoreThan - far and away the cheapest quote for us.

Would have gone for Admiral otherwise and their multi-car scheme, but the other car is my Scooby and they had a bit of hard time trying to work how to put all the mods doen to it in the computer..... turbo, injectors, downpipe, suspension, brakes etc etc

Yup, I also find it bizarre that factory fitted optional extras must be declared as modifications. When I insured with More Than they were only inetrested in mods that "increased top speed, acceleration or power", so tinted windows and 18" wheels weren't a worry.
