I'm just starting this topic to see if there is going to be a trip to the Nurburgring in 2010 because if there is I will definately be up for it!!!!!

2010 dates are not available yet, so plans are still on hold.

I am provisionally pencilling in a date around early October, when it is usually a bit quieter, yet before the weather starts to really close in. Watch this space.

Any idea on how long it will be until they release the dates? Im planning on going in April so they need to hurry up!

I too have been wondering this a few times recently :p

Usually around mid Jan.

Am keeping an eye on the date release and will advise on here as soon as I know.

Cheers

I'm pencilling in a very long weekend around the DTM race which usually takes place mid August. I was there last year on my bike and it was great to combine the two. I may also be interested for a trip later in the year when it gets quieter, end of Sept, ealry Oct usually good. Lets wait for opening times.

PS I know a very good B&B in the centre of Adenau.

Quiet times are becoming very rare :'( and need to include a Monday or Tuesday if possible.......Wed/Thurs even better!!!

Adenau - Blau Ecke? Wilden Schwein? Sonnenhof?

I will be going back end of August, however the last couple years Ive been - i found it nigh on imposible to sort accommodation 1 day after the Touristfahrten dates were released - I think people must book them year on year, well in advance :wonder:. I have stayed in Prum the last couple years which is about an hours drive from Das Ring!

I usually book for groups of about 10 and have done in excess of 30 trips to the Ring over the past 15+ years and have always found local accomodation (5-10 mins drive at the most). The new hotels at the Nurburgring complex should hopefully ease problems, plus the new hotel I had a look round in October, looked pretty good and very close to the amenities.

The Sonnehof in Adenau is a personal favourite and always worth a try. http://www.sonnenhof-adenau.de/pages/startseite/englisch.htm

This one is close too and pretty good, with both a bar & restaurant......but a little isolated - http://www.hotel-rieder.de/

I've been going on bikes since 1999 and done around 600 laps. I usually go after the 1st August and buy a 'Half Year Ticket'. The price of laps is getting silly now, when I first went it was about £6-7 per lap.

Definitely better to go when it's quieter and combine it with a good full day session during the week. It was strangely quiet last August for a weekend in Summer. When I say quiet, it was still busy.

I don't use the local hotels - try private-zimmers, much like our local b&b's. All the 'big' weekends will already be booked up for GP etc.

Cheers.

Definitely better on a bike..........only started taking the car the past few years, as when it became more and more popular there were/are more fluid spills and we're then adding a huge portion of luck into the equation.

Won't ride a bike round there at pace anymore, too risky as to a large extent, safety is outta your own hands.

Thanks Lance, I think when I went last year in August it was over the bank holiday which is why I had so much trouble - there is always about 5/6 of us that go (cars & bikes) which doesnt help being in a group. I know the Brisky ring trip often stay at Centre Parcs which could be good if there is a large group of you, but the proximity to car parks puts me off a little and am not sure if its the place to be rocking up with Transits and trailers! I'll definately check the links out you suggest before I book this year though.

i am most definatly up for a trip to the ring as long as its after august the 9th (girlfriend goes to Falklands :D ) and hopefully it wont clash with the dates of the rover coupe owners club as i plan to go with them again this year

  • 1 month later...

Myself and about 6-8 friends intend to go to the ring w/c 21/06.

Can we just turn up and buy tickets, or do we have to buy tickets in advance?

I appreciate that dates for June have not yet been annouced for the ring yet - just testing the water.

Thanx in advance

Can buy on site from the office there / ticket machine.

Brisky trip aiming for middle of October, but nothing sure yet.

What do people do regarding insurance?

I've now read thousands of threads on various sites, and it seems to me that no-one does insurance that covers you or third party.

There does seem to be some insurance available to cover Arnco, damage to the ring itself etc etc - but not third party or yourself.

Do most people just wing it, and hope and pray?

I am planning a short splash and dash visit for one or two nights later this year late september early October.

In respect to insurance I have done many track days and years ago racing and have never had insurance. Though I would consider insurance for the Ring

as any damage you cause to track recovery etc is chargeable and I believe payable before you leave the country.

There is a lot of information on Pistonheads forums. There must be a uk insurer that does not exclude/includes Ring cover any ideas?

I always wing it, apart from ensuring I have normal EU road cover. :)

Lets face facts WHO THE HELL drives at 110% around the Nurburgring? :D There is not a chance in hell I will ever give it more than about 90% there - simply not worth the risk, and as long as you look out for the seriously fast cars and don't try and recklessly overtake slower cars, it's no more dangerous than the delimited autobahns....

When i went to the ring last year i got insurance for about £125 for 3 days cover. Will try to find out who it was with. Definately interested in going again, been nearly a year since last time, miss it so much :D

AFAIK there are still no UK insurers that will provide the "Holy Grail" of insurance for the Ring, which is full cover for any damage to third parties. Some people can accept the cost of potentially writing off their own car, but not for writing off a £100,000 Porsche or seriously injuring a motorcyclist. There is too much of a risk of large payouts and not enough people will want to pay the massive premiums the insurer would have to charge. They would be paying claims far outweighing their premium income.

You can get insurance from this company http://www.nurburgmotorsport.com/Insurance.html which covers damage to the track but this DOES NOT cover damage to third parties so if you hit someones Lambourghini you're still f**ked.

You can also buy track day insurance from specialist UK insurers which varies in price depending on the value of your car. I've done this in the past and it cost me £60 per day. HOWEVER, I later read the small print and this sort of insurance is absolutely useless because the Ring is not a track day, it is classed as a public road and if I had tried to claim on that insurance (thank god I didn't) it wouldv'e been worth diddly squat.

As Jason says, you can do it on just EU road insurance as long as you don't go mad, drive carefully and treat it as an opportunity to enjoy a leisurely tour of a historic motorsport venue, not see how fast you can get round and beat your mates. You could also consider hiring a dedicated ring toy out there, these are covered by German insurance and are normally race prepped with roll cages, track suspension and tyres. Although these used to be expensive there are several firms offering cheap ones (Mk3 Golf anybody?) and if you're going with one or two mates you can always share the cost.
