Now don't mock me but are you sure it is not a subconscious movement of the foot on the loud pedal... I always cringe when negotiating humps and I know that it sometimes makes me ease off the loud pedal even if I don't intend too... ok now you can mock me :-)

consider yourself mocked :) I could staple my foot to the floor on the humps and it would unfortunately still do it :(

You can feel it with the cruise control on too.

The effect is definitely the car. On the hump in question, I have found that if you give it enough gas you can stop it happening - maybe by keeping the boost up?

Will have to give this a go!

Try it with ESP off (if you have it)-it's designed to cut power if it senses a wheel about to 'lose grip'.....

I've felt it reign in the throttle when giving it loads on bendy backroads-it is disconcerting until you find the 'off' button... :)

Very curious, an indication that the ESP is too sensitive maybe ? If it turns out to be the way ESP operates over sensitively I guess Skoda and VW would argue that the car is doing what it is designed to if the sensors decide that grip is being reduced by the way the car is driven... I haven't noticed it myself but (as hinted above) I treat humps with great suspicion as many in my area now have craters on the other side too !

ESP on or off makes no difference. You are no where near the threshhold for the ESP to activate. We are talking normal speeds, and limited throttle input.

having never had this issue before last week as most of the roads around where i live are relatively low gradient, but last week i went up to northern ireland and some of the roads up there are like roller coasters, and this started happening, its an odd sensation, anyone know yet what causes it?

it does not happen with the ESP off so must be an over zealous ESP.

Thread bump. My pre fl CR VRS... Add another to the list. I thought i was going crazy. It only seems to be over a particular species of bump, ie a gentle crest at speed. Noticable power blip.

I see your Octavia and raise you a focus

This focus, sponsored by Nike air max.

That's some really impressive lift off they've got there.

Forgot to post in here ages ago mine does this from new too highly annoying on types of roads I have at home car will be sold if it still doing it when I move back roads are all rural and it can happen at 40mph as easily as 60 it is reminiscent of the EGR hiccup in the Mk1 Fabia VRS BLT engine if anyone had that to the foot feels like the exact same hesitation then goes again. On the plus side in Holland you don't get it at all...... I wonder why.

Can you try yours without ESP on Fubar?

mine does it too and its bloody annoying. Any of the guys from earlier in the thread in 2010 ever get a resolution to this?

The Skoda assistance man said it happens to his vw van as well!!

I've had my VRS for just over a week now, this was one of the threads I read in detail while I was waiting for mine to be built.

I can honestly say, even though I've been looking/waiting for it to happen, I've yet to experience this issue and my weekly commute has ample opportunity on cresting roads/bridges etc... Is there a specific type of hump I've not come across yet or am I unusually lucky?

There are only two local roads that I have driven on where I have noticed it. It is just that one of them is my normal route home from work!

Still doing it, but decided that it would be too difficult to take up with the dealer, and I guess that it is just a feature of the car.

Have tried driving with the instantaneous fuel consumption displayed, and as you go over the hump the read-out goes to 200 mpg (the maximum displayed on a CR vRS) - but then again I suppose it would if the engine was 'holding' back on the power.

Can you turn ESP off or can you only turn off ASR?

It appears you can't turn off ESP only ASR on my Octavia.

Thread bump. In Skoda dealer today and overheard a chap who was leaving his Superb for service mention that he has the same issue of power dip when cresting a hill.

I spoke to service guy about this and he said it was down to a sensor in door which is for the side airbag curtains.

Don't know if this is the case but thought I'd pass on a possible cause.

Quite why they would link this sensor to the engine is not clear, unless it is something to do with the car 'thinking' of an impending accident and cutting the fuel. Thanks for some further info.

I thought i would add here that my 2011 cr vrs also does this. Ive only had the car a month but noticed it within a few days, theres a few hills here around south wales.

Its not a serious issue, just annoying as it feels like the engine has cut out. A fix would be good though!

Sooo anyone find a skoda garage with a helpful mechanic and get to the bottom of this? I bought a 59 plate vrs tdi just over a week ago and come across this every day going to and from work; 13 miles of hilly back roads, after driving a vito the past 3 years I decided I wanted something that would make my drive to work enjoyable but this issue is ruining it. First thought was I'd been sold a dud car. Surely this deserves a recall? Haven't been to the dealership yet, hoping some if you have had the issue resolved and can tell me which part/s is at fault so i have something to explain to the garage.. Cheers for reading

It's an overzealous ESP. Turn it off and it goes away.
