The variety in these car owner/custodian histories makes it interesting that we have found common ground in the Yeti.

Here's mine for what its worth. Clearly the earlier ones were not new. (years relate to car build not ownership)

1948 Vauxhall Velox - 2.2 ? 6 cylinder, front bench seat, column change which usually selected the 3 gears in random order.

1955 Sunbeam Talbot Mk 3 2.4 litre - lovely car.

1964 Triumph Spitfire with overdrive - great fun but with a dangerous rear suspension design.

1967 Sunbeam Alpine 1750 - nice car but a bit underpowered even in those days.

1965 Sunbeam Tiger - Alpine with power problem resolved by Ford 4.2 V8 which necessitated improvements to suspension + limited slip diff.

1970 Ford Cortina 2000 GT

1972 Triumph 2500 PI with overdrive.

1977Alfa Romeo 1.8 Giulietta

1981 Audi 80

1984 BMW 320

1987 Rover 820 Sterling

1990 Alfa Romeo 164 Turbo

1996 Fiat Bravo 1600 ! ( Surprisingly enough its done its job well and has been very reliable, but at 176000 km I think its done enough)

2010 Yeti 170

Not just the Yeti in demand. It's not often that a Jaguar XF driver finds himself longing to be in a base-spec Skoda Fabia - but that was definitely the case when driving the Nissan Pixo loan car we had when the Yeti was in for the headlight fault. I didn't realise basic cars were that bad, I would rather have been back in my old Citroen AX10E. The reason the Skoda dealer is handing out these nasty vehicles? There is a 3 month wait for new Fabias!

And as this seems to have turned into a "previous cars" thread:

Hers:

Mini Clubman

Austin Allegro

Austin Metro

Citroen AX11TRE

Vauxhall Astra 1.7D

Peugeot 306 XTdt

VW Golf Mk4 TDI SE

VW Golf Mk4 GT TDI

VW Beetle TDI

VW Beetle TDI Cabriolet

Skoda Yeti 140CR 4x4

His:

Triumph Herald

Renault 10

Renault 12

VW Passat 1.3

VW Derby 1.3

VW Golf Mk1 GTI

Citroen SM (Maserati)

Citroen CX Estate

Citroen CX Pallas IE

Citroen Dyane 6 (x3)

Citroen AX10E

Volvo 480 Turbo

VW Golf Mk3 VR6

VW Passat TDI110 Sport

BMW 320d (E46)

Hi Dave,

It was a really good car and certainly cheap as a secondhand buy. The 170 engine pulls well, the interior is nicely done and it drives well.

In comparison to the Yeti, the Yeti feels a good step up the quality ladder (in Elegance spec anyway, I haven't been in any other spec'). The CR engine (140bhp) is so quiet and with 5500 miles on it is just starting to loosen up a bit, not as quick as the Freetrack, but doesn't feel much behind it. Inside the Yeti is a much nicer place to be, I've got a Gobi interior and Panoramic sunroof which undoubtedly help, but it feels really well bolted together. Interior space is one of the features that got me onto the Yeti, with the seats out we can get both of our bikes in the car (Skoda do a great internal bike rack) and still have space for holiday gear (the seats don't come out of the Freetrack and the body shape restricts internal height), so when I get the towbar fitted on Monday we are all set for holidays this year (we have just bought our first caravan).

Overall I really liked the Freetrack, but the Yeti is a nicer car and better for what I need, hope this helps.

Tony

Past cars then...

Dark metallic Blue Fiesta Ghia 1.3 (thought it was well posh as all my mates had 1.1 popular or LX models!) L reg - 5 years old

Dark red metalic Fiesta 1.25 Zetec - R reg - 16 months old

Then I met SWMBO and gave her the Fiesta.

Panther Black Focus 1.8 Zetec Collection 3 dr - X reg - new

Green Octavia 1.8T 4x4 Elegance Hatch - 52 plate - 3 years old (swapped SWMBO fiesta for a Honda Civic 1.6 vtec Executive 5dr - 55 plate - new)

Race Blue Octavia VRS II Estate - 57 plate - new (swapped SWMBO Civic for a Fiesta 1.6 TDCI 5dr - 08 plate - new)

Steel Grey Yeti Elegance 4x4 1.8 TSi - 2010 - due late April/early May (probably keep the Fiesta as its such good cheap fun car and ideal as a second car).

Cant really say that any of them have been unreliable as such. The r reg Fiesta is still going strong with over 100k on the clock (a work collegue owns it now) and Focus had to go as it was highly modified and a three door. With hindsight I should have kept the 4x4 Octy and done a big turbo conversion on it but I swapped it for the new VRS which I found couldnt put the power down anywhere near as well. SWMBO's Civic was massively spacious inside - probably the best family hold all we have owned but neither of us was turned on by the roll in corners and the fact you would see 26mpg when making it go... current Fiesta 1.6 TDCI was been the most fun however - remapped to 190lb/ft torque, ST brakes and Eibach suspension all for just £35 tax and 48mpg around town (67+ mpg on a long motorway haul).

It;s "piece de resistance" was soaking the driver's foot when operating the rear washers. As one of the Skoda guys said, the best thing about the Pixo is the cornflakes that come in it...

Thanks Tony,

Thats confirmed what I was thinking. The freetrack looks like an Altea that had the 4 motion put on it as an afterthought whereas the Yeti is built as a 4WD from the start.

And it has that fab sunroof!

My dealer has just got there first stock Yeti in the showroom since the last one was sold the day mine arrived.

'Tibetan White' 1.2TSI SE with Onyx Alcantara interior. Looked very smart particularly the seating material, although I think the Spitzberg alloys would suit this colour better than the Dolomites.

It would be interesting to know how many have bought a Yeti as their first ever Skoda. Seems that most are changing from Fabias or Octavias and know the marque well.

Still think Skoda are missing a trick with no 1.4 TSi , at least in the UK.

This will be our 1st Skoda ever!!

Never thought I would be buying one. :o

We've had a couple of Honda CRVs but got rid of due to petrol guzzling habits!

Looked at lots - came down to Quashqai and Yeti but when we drove the Nissan I hit my head getting in and out like a LIMBO DANCER, had to contort to reach the seat forward backwards mover bar under front seat but worst of all I was SEASICK!! (nothing to do with my other halfs cornering!)

On top of that was poorer fuel consumption, lower spec, smaller boot etc... and more expensive!

The Yeti was amazing- just got in and drove like I'd known it for years and soooo comfy, nippy but no sea sickness YAHOOOO It was a no brainer as they say!

My cars from 1st to the YETI

Well 1st transport was actually a red 125 Suziki trials bike....

My parents decided on a safer option for me and bought me an ALLEGRO in the most horrendous green/brown/yelloy colour sooo not cool in the early 80's! IT SOON HAD TO GO!

My boyfriend at the time had a Mini Cooper S and we spotted a gorgeous grey RILEY ELF, lether and lovely wood interior and actually now I think about it ....a nose like my knew Yeti!!!

I loved my Riley but it kept breaking down and everyone got fed up with coming to my rescue.

Left college and got a job!

Then had a red and then a grey PEUGOT 205 Gti- they stuck to the road like glue-brilliant fun!!

Had a red PEUGOT 306 Gti co. car for a bit.

Then had a dark steel grey DAIHATSU SPORTTRACK WITH DETACHABLE HARD ROOF AND CANVAS SOFT TOP- drove down to the south of France and had a brilliant time in it.

Next came a Dark blue metallic 2 litre VW GOLF AVANTGARDE soft top- 1st long outing, about a week after I got it!) got clocked at 98mph ( I braked down from 114 when I saw the blue lights!) on the M9 visiting my sister in Glasgow. I know, I know I'm much more sensible now I'm a mum! (still got it though!)

Started a family.... and got bigger family cars

1st- a ROVER TOURER estate as the family car- my other half nearly wrote it off in the rain in Scotland so decided a big, bulky 4x4 would be safer!! Kept it and now its scrappage for the YETI!

Then got HONDA CRV's 1st one was metallic Tango orange and 2nd was light metallic blue- petrol prices went ballistic... even though we could have the skis on the top, the bikes on the back...they had to go!

I'm driving a Daihatsu Sirion and my other half's still going strong in the Rover at the moment....

but the YETI Elegance 4x4 140bhp in cappachino (ordered as shows the dirt the least in our opinion and looks good with the Gobi leather interior and by the way we're in our mid 40's!) arrives in March and I wonder who's going to wrest control of the keys.....

WATCH this space!

Interesting you said about the lack of sickness in the Yeti. Our eldest child has been very sick in the back of a Mazda 6 estate (hire car round Ireland  ), wears sick bands in the A4 Avant (and still goes very pale and sweaty), and felt sick in the back in the Octavia test drive. We had to hire a brand new 3 series BMW and all felt sick! Even my husband driving the BMW was queasy but he was 'testing out the amazing grip' round country roads. Didn't hold up too much hope for the taller Yeti but went on a 2 hour test drive and they were fine. Result! Mind you that was the 170bhp diesel and we're getting the 1.2tsi. We only had a short test drive in the 1.2tsi and the children weren't in that one... knowing our luck......!?!

Yeti SE, 2.0 TDi, 140bhp, 4WD - on its way. - First Skoda

I toyed with an Octavia but that would have been up against a number of other makes and models. When I saw the Yeti, and then test drove it, it was game over very quickly. The Yeti will definitely bring in new people to Skoda as it is different. I think the Nissan Juke will do the same for Nissan and good luck to them.

We need differently designed cars. Life would be very dull if they all looked the same and how would we find our own car in a supermarket car park?

Until you entered a corner realising you were going too fast and lifted off - then you'd reverse into the nearest hedge/wall/bus/lorry/tree/river etc, etc. :giggle:

Sounds like you speak from experience! :giggle:

Can't say I went through a hedge... in the 205 - tried that on my motorbike though! :(

I did however take off from a humpback bridge over a canal in my red 205... and that was a little startling! :o

I didn't get much chance to test out the grey one...

I came out from work on Colmore Row in the centre of Birmingham about 1 month after I'd got it new and went to where I'd parked the car and thought that's funny I'm sure I parked it here ...I rang the police to check if they had towed it away and they hadn't :'(

But a number of cars had been loaded onto a car transporter and stolen

- You could have knocked me down with a feather!

Never saw it again!
