You can play standard DVDs in the columbus, but no other video formats from any other means.

  • 2 weeks later...

Something else the Bolero radio cannot do and that is get Radio 4 on Long Wave. Which means that for those of us who listen to the cricket, now cannot. A gormless decision. Therefore having had this 4x4 Octavia for three weeks, it is going back for part ex to a manufacturer that does supply a decent radio. Also why on the speedo do they not have the two main speed in the UK indicated, 30mph and 70mph.

that is a seriously extreme reason to sell your car after 3 weeks - I assume at quite some financial detriment? If its that much of an issue how about change the stereo for an after market jobbie? There may even be other VAG units that do receive LW tho I'm not 100%

Well loss of cricket, that's a good reason to have it! And if you can't tell where 30 & 70 mph is on a speedo then I suggest you stop driving immediately & catch a bus to the nearest optician for all of our safety. :dull:

Long wave is this the 50`s:giggle:Why do you want it on LW when it is on FM 92.4_94.6. My Father in law who is 76 listens to radio 4 on fm , why can`t you .Did you also want a cassette player

The UK and France are the only countries left in the whole EU, possibly larger world still using LW. Its pointless to develop radios with LW now that will only be of any use in France or the UK. Almost all, if not all radios made today no longer have LW on them, they are all FM and MW, and possibly DAB. With the advent of DAB, the number of radio stations on LW is reducing as they switch to DAB, so there is another reason to no longer develop radios

For those of you who do not understand, you cannot get Long Wave on FM. Therefore you cannot listen to the cricket, if you could then I would. Simples. If your Father - in Law can get the cricket on FM, do tell.

Thanks for the sensible reply VEEDUB 210

I think he was referring to the fact that BBC Radio 4 IS available on FM. Which in your first post you said was only on LW which it clearly is not.

As has been mentioned i would say not being able to listen to the Cricket is an Extreme reason to change a car. Surely you would have checked this in the first place.

Also the speedo quite clearly shows 30 & 70mph on the Octavia. Just because they are not highlighted in red doesn't mean they can't be seen.

But it's your Car/Money so do whatever you feel is best for you.

Yes as VRSCarl says you go to FM press search and the second press bingo Radio 4 comes up ,SIMPLES

Yes, but Radio 4 on FM and Radio 4 on LW have different schedules... The cricket is not on the FM schedule, only the LW schedule...

However, what seems to be escaping some posters here is that Radio 4 transmissions are split when cricket is on - the commentary is on Long Wave ONLY and regular programming on FM....

Still seems a rather extreme reason to get rid of a car though!

And even if cricket was on the FM schedule, it just wouldn't sound the same without the LW hiss, fade in / fade out and the general "Germany calling, Germany calling ..." atmosphere...

snap! :giggle:

If the Cricket is not on the FM Schedule surely that tells you something.

That is it's Fecking boring and they try not to broadcast it so not to send drivers to sleep at the wheel :giggle: :giggle:

Carl

I think it's an age thing. If you remember the Light Programme, you'll follow cricket on LW 'til the end of your days... and not drive a Skoda Octavia.
