Service again.......

Featured Replies

Hey,

I know this has been asked 1000000000 times but even so......

I have been quoted via main dealers for a major service and a cambelt/water pump change:

Major Service - £250

Cambelt and Water Pump - £350

Total of £600

But if i book to have both done at the same time they will give me a 10% discount, so in effect the total charge for all the work would work out to be £540!

Is £540 a reasonable charge for the above work?

Other independent specialists have said the best they can do is over £600 and they could not price match the above?!

So what do you think?

Again sorry for bringing this subject up again!

Regards,

Dave

For a main dealer the price sounds OK to me.........

what do they include in the "major service"? I hope that's brake/clutch fluid change too... Think the rest of what's on the service schedule is just filters/oil/inspection (may be wrong, check the service book).

IIRC i got the cambelt & water pump changed last july at the dealers for £276 if this helps.

Think you've answered your own question there!

Doesn't really matter if I people in other parts of the country can get it cheaper, if that's the cheapest you can get within a reasonable travelling distance then go for it.

We got major service + cambelt + water pump + brake fluid change done last year at a main dealer at it cost somewhere north of £700! I rang around all the dealers close-ish to me, knocked a bit off the cheapest one and then phoned my preferred dealer and asked them to match it- which they did!

I can look out the invoice tonight for you and see what the breakdown was if you like?

Thanks for all the feedback guys, i live in Surrey so tbh i think the main dealer price is reasonable! And as you say i kind of answered my own question really! I am going to get the price down a little bit as i dont need new brake fluid as that was changed in the last service!

Its just annoying that i only got the car 4 months ago and in that time i have done 10k so now i have to shell out all of this as well! Maybe i should move closer to work hahah

But i suppose its better than having to get a new engine fitted lol

Thanks everyone :)

Dave

At least your next service will be a lot cheaper :) 10k in 4 months is impressive mate lol

might of paid off, when looking for a vrs to get one thats had the cambelt service already done

Ah! Did you try Star Performance at Dysart for a price - I'd reckon that they could beat any VAG main dealers.

600 is about right dude, thats exactly what i got quoted by the cambereley service centre, where did where you quoted?

Thanks, well i when i got my vrs it only had 30k on the clock and was only just 3 years old, some times it is hard to predict the future and change's in roles. If i had of known i would be doing so many miles then i would have done as you say!

Thats great to hear that its about right as you are in the same area as i am looking! I got quoted by Station Garages Skoda dealer who are just outside Guilford and the second was from Reading Skoda. I live in Surrey but work in Reading lol

Thanks for you help :)

A friend of mine is going to look into asking an independent garage to quote a price, if its lower would you be interested...it is near staines tho so its obvs a bit of a trek

I just had my 2005 Fabia VRS cambelt/ auxicillarybelt /water pump and G12 anti-freeze renewed, total bill came out at £350 from independant garage.

Thinking that your services will be every 4months/ 10.000 miles should vary in charges, owing to some filters ie, air filter/ pollen/ fuel would be still look new and not contaminated.

Some would argue this point, but all lubricants amongst other things would be more necessary.

Yeah right ;) I have used Star before and I would use them again, but cheap they most definitely are not!

ive found the dealers to be competitive with the independents anyway, and usually cheaper than 'specialists' on pretty much everything

Thanks for all of your help guys, in the end I got my best quote from AMD Technik in Woking so i dropped it off this morning and should have it back later today! I have got to say so far they have been very friendly and helpful.

Plus they gave me a Smart ForTwo Brabus which is an absolute hoot to drive lol :D

Cheers,

Dave

I've booked mine in for it's 40000 mile service in April - getting MOT done too as it's 3 years old at the beginning of May - end of warranty checks and hesitation fix included. Might see if they'll reseal the back doors too. Been quoted £316 by Alex Lawrie Skoda here in Liverpool.

Think I may p**s a few people off here but I managed to get a full service and cambelt/water pump change for £300 all in at an independant! - I'm not sure if that's repeatable though!

Other Indys were quoting me £155 for the service and £266 for the cambelt/pump and tensioner.

Hey all,

Small question, i have just hopped into my car this morning, turned the key and i was prompted with two things:

1st - i get the small spanner and then the number 400 (i thought this was to say 400 miles until next service?) but its just been done and was fine for a week?!

2nd - after the above the display changes to show BOTH the small spanner and a small clock and the number 395?

What do these mean? is it simply the garage has not rest the service interval correctly?

Cheers,

Dave
