Years ago a local Saab dealer had SAA899

In 1978, as a rookie cop on Traffic attachment in Preston, I did a shift being driven in a black Saab 99 turbo demonstrator for Police forces reg no. 5AAB. (Now on a 2005 Saab 9-3 according to Gov.UK MOT history)

Using '9' to mean any digit, there was a fashion for people from Rhu (not far from where I lived at the time) to use RHU 999 or 999 RHU plates. One local novelist made the comment that they were "emphasising their supreme cleverness in living in a place who's name only has 3 letters!"

'50 N' on a Series II Discovery tonight. Not mis-spaced or anything, lovely stuff.

Proper old money I'm guessing, given it was in British Racing Green, the V8 model and in decent nick. Proper 'plate worth more than the car' territory :D

Hmm, I don't think I can read or even clearly see, other drivers number plates on the move in my rear view mirror.

But TAXISSM indeed. :speechless:

More to  reg numbers than I could imagine.
