Lol, bloody ell. Better off with the korean's then. Even top gear rate em as a reasonabley priced car. You gotta laugh :giggle:

Meh, that makes it the original but not the ultimate. It's not even strictly the original, the Opel Chevette HS came out earlier .... think the Talbot Subeam Lotus did too to be fair.

I'd forgotten about the Skylines fella. Drove a friends brand new one some years ago, but only tootled it around for a few miles, never opened the taps. Supposed to be very well behaved when driven near it's limits. Mmmmm now that would be a good shootout, an Evo X against a GTR on some real twisty mountain roads.

Although it isnt well documented, think it was the Alfasud that started the hot hatch revolution as it was in production some 3 years before any of the above.

I voted the Phaeton as its a gorgeous car and a true VW. But for ultimate VAG it has to be the 1940s Schwimwagons and Kubels, KDF forever!

Cool man good choice and interesting ultimate. Was that the first ever volkswagen or something?

The Veyron, have you ever seen one on the road, the others are not a rarity , and the sound they make is awesome!

What about the Fabia 2.0? Will take all of them 'like a King'! :giggle:

IIRC the Alfasud wasn't a hatch back as it had a small saloon style lid..... the hatchback didnt come till 1981

fabia vrs

And the winner is....... I think we all knew anyway. Thanks for all your posts and opinions

For me it's the Bugatti Veyron as technology wise it is a masterpiece of engineering, i went in one once and thought WOW if i had the money i would.

I forgot to reply about the mk1 request. Thats gona have to come under the Vw phaeton category I guess if you want to vote for that? Reason being thats the ultimate vw in my view of course.

The mk2 golf is the ultimate, yes the mk1 created the breed, but the mk2 perfected it, and no vw has come close since!!!!!!

Tho i may be biased :D

Yes you are, as you own one. In my view mk4 onwards is the ultimate gti in either R32 or R form. Thank you very much. The other ones seem a bit too long in the tooth now.

mk2 G60 syncro ltd, fastest golf ever made, mk4 didn't deserve to wear the badge it is a dog,mk5 is dull as dishwater in anything but r32 form and even then its only the noise which makes it interesting, mk6 golf r looks nice, but will be dull to drive like every modern car is, no i don't think i'm biased if you want comfort and toys drive the modern stuff, if you want fun, lightwieght and the feeling you are driving rather than being driven you need a mk1 or 2 cos the rest are rubbish!!!!!

G60 Limited isn't the fastest golf ever made... it's awesome... but there are quicker factory cars about....

The Mk4 V6 4Mo, Mk4 R32, Mk5 GTI, Edition 30, Pirelli, R32, Mk6 GTI, Mk6 'R' are all as quick/quicker to 60, with a higher top speed....

Granted the Mk4 didn't cover itself in glory... but having owned a fair number of Mk2 GTI's in both 8 and 16v and having driven a 1600 Mk1 GTI a fair chunk too... I'd take my Mk5 GTI DSG over any of them... it's a PROPER car.. it's all things at all times.. very capable through the bends and both quick and fast... (driven a new Scirocco too...)

Don't get me wrong.. I love Mk1 GTI's, Mk2's and early Scirocco's... but anyone who claims they're superior in any way to the Mk5/6's or the new 'Rocco's haven't driven the newer cars enough (IMO of course!)....

I'd even be as bold as to say that I prefer my GTI to my old 911 3.0 SC....

Did manage to see a couple of G60 Limiteds in the same place a couple of months ago...

It's my favourite (factory) Mk2 Golf...

Again this is only my opinion, but i shelled out big bucks for a mk2 octy vrs back in 2005 and hated every second of it, it was dull uninspiring and made me nod off sure it was a capable car but it did nothing for me, i looked at a mk5 gti edition 30 and found it to be a near carbon copy of the octy to drive, the octy lasted 3 months before i sold it back to the dealers and went back to rwd skylines, i just love mk2's its that simple, and if i ever saw a g60 syncro ltd for sale i would most certainly see if i could raise the funds to buy it, in my opinion it is the ultimate golf

I cannot do without the comfort and toys. Not to mention the safety aspect, wins the day for me. The doors on my Furby are probably thicker and more solid than a mk2 golf ya know.

Yes without a doubt, but my mk2 is faster and handles better

tho it most definatly isn't as economical!!!!!

Oh for sure, they're bloody rocket ships. Pooped my pants when i went in a vr6. Its shockin!:thumbup:

After Much thought its down to a toss up between the '07 Skoda fabia 1.9 TDI Bohemia estate and the 1993 Seat Ibiza 1.2 SLXi..... oh hang on not just cars ive had......Audi RS6 Avant......

Now I'm biased, but is the 1.8T Polo GTi the spiritual successor to the original Golf GTi? The Golf V certainly isn't...

Porsche Typ 60/KDF Wagen/VW Beetle , 1938-2003 , nuff said.
