So am I reading this right,...

that's £360 (plus postage) delivered for an STS with Stage 1 remap for my Octavia Vrs MkII 2.0 tfsi (with my 10% freedom member discount included) as long as the money is paid before September 1st? and the unit will be delivered early september ?

If so, I'm definitely in as I've read loads of positive stuff about the Shark maps.

I'd like to know more about the diagnostic parts of the sts unit, what can it do and not do also what cars will it work as a diagnostic unit? Ie. Could this be used on another mk2 octavia and a mk1 superb?

The diagnostic side of the unit will work on any OBDII vehicle, so yes there's no problem using it on another Octavia or Superb. The unit will give you the industry standard OBDII codes which you'll need to look up in Google etc, or on the excellent Ross Tech wiki. It's worth noting that the diagnostic capabilities are limited to the engine, it won't read other control modules for example.

Can this unit allow you to switch between say your standard map and stage 1 and stage 2 if purchased from yourself like I will be? Basically becasue i've bought stage 1 from you are you able to supply me the maps to store on pc then when i want i could say turn it down to stage 1 when i wanted to and vice versa.

Yep, no problem with that at all.

Would it work if the car has already been mapped by a different company? Do I need to get the standard map put back on first?

Most of the time yes, it can overwrite other people's maps. We have had one instance in the past where the STS wouldn't read the ECU due to the previous tuner adding a "noread" tag to their map. He sent his ECU to us to be put back to standard, and after that he had no problems at all.

Having said that the STS has been used to overwrite many other maps, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for that Ben - do you happen to know if it will overwrite an APR trial? I know I asked before if you could re-map a car 'in the flesh' that had had that trial on, but not specifically about the STS unit... Thanks!

No it won't, your car needs to go back to an APR dealer for the original map to be put back on. Of course there's no problem with you joining the group buy, having the car put back to standard, and sending us your map once you've done that :)

Wardy - it does indeed seem that way, that trial has caused a fair bit of hassle so far. Think I'll create a n00b's guide to remaps after my... err... 'learning experience' this time, in the hope that others don't fall into the same trap in future.

Have removed myself from the list as I was more interested in the diagnostic part of the STS rather than the remap and have decided to put the difference between vagcom and the sts deal towards maxidot instead.

I'm gonna have to pull out unfortunately :( Moved half a mile up the road to a new postcode area and my insurance (due for renewal end of this week) has gone up by 25% even without the remap, so I can't justify it any more, sorry... Gutted!
