Out of curiousity I decided to take the new vRS for a test drive and it took me a while to get used to the automatic driving BUT... my god just about a mile before heading back to the dealership I went to change gear

(IN AUTO PILOT) still thinking I was in a manual and what happend when I went to press the clutch ????

Yes I ANKERED on at 60mph ! (I know my fault but FFS ! Skoda why the hell didnt you just make a flippin manual ???

Anybody else had any similar things happen to them ???

On my test drive, I went for the clutch about 4 times :) Thankfully, I stopped myself before I risked pressing the brake. You would soon get used to the auto though.

If your not used to driving an auto, stick your left foot under the seat. The clue is the brake pedal is twice as wide as normal

The trouble I have with autos, isn’t driving them, it’s when I get back into a manual and forget to put the clutch in as I come to a stop emoticon-0111-blush.gif I should add this is only after many months of continuously driving an auto :D

I loved owning a DSG equipped car before my Fabia - absolutely awesome gearbox!

You do soon learn to adjust to it

Nail hit firmly on head

Please don't buy one - leave it to those who can actually put their brain into gear (no pun intended) B)

I think your thread title could perhaps be amended so as NOT to sound like you are blaming the car

My work colleague nearly put me through the windscreen of the Superb DSG demonstrator I had. We were only doing < 10 mph in a car park. What made me chuckle is that he first made out that the brakes were too efficient. :)

There is a chap on SCN bless him who waited for ages for his Bocanegra, one of the first times out was racing a Civic type R and forgot, slammed on the brakes, he slammed into the back of him, wrote the Honda off and bent his pretty badly.

How are you doing that!!!! i have size 11-12 feet and when i went for the clutch i just stamped the floor???

do you guys really move your foot that far over??

I wondered exactly the same thing....

Haha I've just gone from 8 months in a freelander auto to a fabia vrs and I've stalled it at least 3 times since picking it up Saturday. Mrs keeps lookin at me stupid - I just coast up to roundabouts and forget the clutch lol - it must b my age

It is a bit of a mystery to be but to be fair its not the same brake pedal as a manual being bigger so you dont have to be far off if you decide to move your left foot.

I have the same problem. Driving a smart which is semi auto I have no clutch pedal. When I first got the car I had to sit with my left foot flat on the floor to stop me going for the clutch. Now I have the opposite problem. When I drive Steve's car I forget to change down, then I wonder why the car stalls :giggle: . Kathy

The brake pedal is more than twice as wide as in a manual car. It's not impossible to catch the edge of the brake pedal if you go for the clutch-that-isn't-there. I ended up tapping the floor or realising with my foot in mid-air.

At one point I went t do a 3-point turn, stopped, went for the clutch, had a couple of seconds looking at where exactly reverse was, remembering I had to have my foot on the brake to shift there, and finally getting the turn done.

Feels like you've forgotten how to drive!

yet you have a DSG?..........Strange comments

Fair enough - after seeing Lummox's pic, I can see how it 'could' be done.

The pedals must be much further apart on the larger VAG models, as I never ever considered this 'problem' with my Audi.

cheers for the pic Lummox - love the Boca car and I'm enjoying watching its progression

And I've not put myself through the windscreen once

Hence my comments - there's a fantastic footrest on the left-hand side of the footwell - plant your foot there and think

I remember looking at Skoda UK's website and the new vRS has sporty aluminium pedals - 3 of them. It is now covered up so it looks like only 2.

Hitting the brake with my left foot it the only thing that worries me if I drove an automatic. Does the brake still over ride the throttle still to stop you from left foot braking (pressing both pedals)?

but you taught Tiger....................nuff said :giggle:

To be fair, you will very quickly get used to not having the clutch pedal.

But I don't drive when I'm off my tits ;)

Stops very quickly doesn't it :giggle:....yes I did it as well

Its true you have a bit to think about when you drive a fast dsg, particularly if you havnt driven an auto before.

If you find this difficult, perhaps you should start out trying to chew gum whilst walking.

Try this for a few weeks, and then when you get behind the wheel again let us all know so we can stay indoors.
