Il get it finished asap lads.

PS really difficult to photograph the colour properly under artificial tube light but will get some decent quality pics of it this week

Like the colored combination of the rims and grill

Nice big garage you have there, Baby and house come before car, looks finished to me, just lower grilles to pop back in, good to see another convert of a dark grille rather than body coloured

That looks great. If it were mine I'd have the mirrors matching the grille/wheels and leave the roof silver, but hey, its your car. ;)

Might give you an idea...

Can u bloody believe it the rear drivers door is stuck shut! Was opening fine and riveted the internal panel on today and locked and unlocked it a few times on the key fine then used the internal lock switch and now all three other doors are ok but that door won't open. Can hear and see the lock firing when u hit the button but neither handle open it (all cables are connected and so presuming it must be within the mechanism). I'm hoping it's something to do with the police run lock system (not sure what it really enables them to do but presume they can lock the car while it's running or something) because otherwise I don't know how I will get the door open again. Got an auto elec coming Wednesday to have a look at the boot and rear wiper that ain't working aswell and fingers crossed he can sort it!

If anyone knows if there is another way to release the door catch then you could just save me a huge problem.

On a better note cheers for the comments and ideas lads :)

Oh dear hope you get it sorted

Brilliant reading and fantastic pictures. Would love to have a look when its all finished. Im in Fforestfach and would love to pop over to see it. Hate to give any ideas after you have done so much incredible work, but the bottom grille on face lift is much sportier design,or you could of looked at the aftermarket one like i had fitted. Thanks again. Gareth.

I had this happen to my Renault, had to take rear seat out and the door card out.

Holy crap, never swore soo much is one day.

Did put some pictures up on here a few years back but they have gone now. will check in my attic for the box to see who i had it off.

Here is the link. look around the site they have it on a vrs and it looks so much better than this pic.http://www.rsdcars-uk.co.uk/acatalog/info_716.html

Oh i dont think i like that lower grill :(

lol, thats just it,each to there own,and to be honest your car already looks good. It does look much better on the vrs colour coded though.

Have you sorted the rear door issue yet? You are right that it could be from when it was a police vehicle. The dog cars/vans have a nifty little thing where they can keep the engine running and air-con/climate on and all the doors locked, without any keys in the ignition. Helps to prevent another 'hot dog' issue!

No mate not sorted yet. Im on nights at the mo but did get up yesterday ready to meet the auto elec, but as usual with them a job that he was on took far longer than planned and couldn't make it. Il ring him first thing in the morning and hope he can pop up for a look then.

Yea i am hoping that its to do with wiring that i havent spotted and removed from the drivers side as did remove a lot of wiring from the car and could easily have missed a little additional unit (do remember on the passenger side that they had spliced into the wiring by the back door for something and i cut it out and re soldered the wire and that door is fine).

Must be something like that tbh as door was working fine until i fitted the window regulator and plugged all the wiring in. On the remote the door was opeing but once i hit the interior lock button it all went Pete Tong. Might just be coincidence, but me thinks not somehow :)

If it is the lock then its redrilling the pop rivets (which are 50p a go with skoda the robbing gits lol) that i just fitted and break the lock mech open to hopefully release the door and then hunt down a replacement :(.

Im hoping tomoz to get the vinyl roof on (carefully does it Dai :)) and if the doors sorted then all the door cards on (speaker replacement can wait until i buy the rear speakers and have all the cabling done ready so easy enough then)

Just wheel alignment and fit the sideskirts then and fingers crossed all done (so to speak cos plenty of modifying to go yet, but dont tell her in doors :))

  • 4 weeks later...

Well the cars just about there now and going in for 4 wheel laser alignment on Thursday with VW. To say that it has been a very eventful few weeks is a massive understatement!!

Finally go the boot lock issue sorted (but we dont know how we fixed it unfortunately)

I have figured out the wiring for the old style wing mirrors onto the new style loom. Not rocket science but basically the old style ones have 8 wires going into them (left, right, up, down, 2 for indicator and 2 for heated glass), but the power is split into 2 separate wires on the plug itself (in the door) where as the new style mirrors the cables dont split until they are inside the wing mirror housing. Also the colours are totally different, so was a matter or figuring out which wire on the old block went to the wire on the new mirror. Could be helpful if anyone was planning on fitting the new style mirrors on the pre facelift (basically they run the wiring straight from the mirror to the window motor now instead of having an in between connecting block). I should have taken pics of this process but i was freezing and didnt, sorry :(. Anyone who wants some help in future give me a PM.

Spoken to a mate who is a sign fitter who is coming out to fit my gloss black roof as i do not want to mess it up or cut through the paint or lacquer! Also managed to get my hands on a Genuine Audi A8 shark fin aerial in gloss black which will look good with the black roof. Radio reception seems fine with it, but aint been able to take it for a drive to check.

All front grills and roof bars are back on and so just side skirts, drivers side bump strips to fit and a few interior bits and bobs to finish, before it gets a well deserved clean.

Tomorrow the front (rear) Audi TT wishbone bushes will be going on before its visit to the VW to get everything **** on :). Oooooo i see a throughly good thrashing on the cards when i get it back on the old mans trade plates :)

No real photos to show on car progress (just this quick one) so will get some finished ones posted next week all going well.

Now onto the crazy part of the last few weeks! My mates garage caught fire last Wednesday night while him and the sprayer were working! Basically the 25k spray booth he has had just been filled with kerosene and the sprayed had come back at around 7pm to paint a L200 jeep tailgate. My mate was in the office and suddenly there was 20 foot flames coming out of the oven housing. He calmly **** himself and ran to the spray booth door and got the sprayer out who was oblivious to the fire. Thankfully both got out unscathed and called the fire brigade.

There were 8 cars parked in the garage and the main roller doors were shut (which thankfully contained the fire a little). All the cars are basically ok (odd melted wing mirror and smoke damage), but a long wheelbase vw transported/camper was parked right next to the spray booth and is completely gutted, as was the spray booth which is a right off to say the least along with a huge hole in the roof!!

Luckily my car was in a separate unit and was totally untouched, but i have had to bring it to my house to finish off and once the power is restored and garage cleared it will go back up for its polish and we will fit the skirts.

Heres a few pics of the garage and what a waste of a top class spray booth :(

So lucky your car was not in there Dai, what caused the fire

Insurance assessors have been there last few days mate and still trying to work it out. Not sure if there was a leak at the upper level of the kerosene tank which caused it to touch one of the heating elements or possible an electrical short, but kerosene has similar burn characteristic's as diesel (according to the fire brigade) so first possibility is more likely.

Yea i was very lucky my car wasnt in there as that would be all i needed after all that work for it to end up in flames! :(

Looking good and very lucky. Very similar to mine from that angle with the dark wheel and tints. Interested to see how it looks with the black roof.

For a quick comparison:

Car looks stunning Nobafett and considerably cleaner than mine lol. Its a crazy colour with the pearl on the silver and car looks white from distance in overcast weather.
